Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated drivers

Nero was one of the companies that failed to hesitate in the least when it came down to jumping aboard the Compatible with Windows Vista wagon, and the same is valid when it comes down to the latest iteration of the Windows client.

The makers of the product revealed that Nero 9 had successfully passed all the compatibility and reliability testing required for it to achieve the Compatible with Windows 7 logo. In this regard, Nero indicated that a Windows 7-compatible Nero 9 update would be available on the market in time for the general availability of Microsoft’s operating system, which is scheduled for release come October 22nd, 2009.

In addition to Nero 9, Nero BackItUp & Burn has also earned the Compatible with Windows 7 logo. Nero AG failed to reveal to what extent, if any, Nero 9 and Nero BackItUp & Burn would be tailored to Windows 7, by embracing the specific bells and whistles of the platform, including Aero Snap, Aero Peek, the Superbar’s Live Preview Thumbnails, Jumplists etc. However, the company did indicate that users should expect and update for both Nero 9 and Nero BackItUp & Burn this October. Current users of both products will be offered the refresh free of charge.

"Nero has spent over a decade providing PC-based solutions to address the digital content needs of consumers worldwide," revealed Kris Barton, executive vice president of global products, Nero AG. “Receiving the ‘Compatible with Windows 7’ logo for both Nero 9 and Nero BackItUp & Burn underscores both our longstanding commitment to platform interoperability and our dedication to enabling the liquidity of content between all digital media hubs.”

The Compatible with Windows 7 logo program is a Microsoft initiative designed to highlight the software and hardware solutions tailored to the latest version of the Windows client and help customers make better decisions about the third-party products they buy to work in concert with the operating system. All products need to pass extensive compatibility testing in order to qualify for the logo.

Nero 9 ? never nero for me again

By Michel on 14.08.2009 - 01:08
i used always nero, till nero 9 came. i got problems and errors with dual layers. it didnt burn the second layer. errors like ''power calibration error'' popped up and with nero 8 i didnt get this problem. when i burn the same iso with ashampoo or imgburn the second layer gets burned.

nero = game over

nero 9 is already compatible with windows 7!

By yoyoma on 14.08.2009 - 02:08
i've been using it for years, up until last week when the bloatiness and constant nagging when i kept bypassing activation forced me to go to ashampoo burning studio 9.10. there is no dvd player nor audio format converter, but those are hardly vital programs for a dvd burning suite.

I use Nero 9 on Win7

By Ericko on 14.08.2009 - 03:08
i've been using nero 9 without problems for several months now. win xp, vista and 7

i haven't burned any dual layer dvd tough

Who Bother for NERO 7 it's sux

By Arsalan Aly on 14.08.2009 - 03:08
it's boltware ...who bother to install 400 mb nero software huh for burning iso or create data burn audio huh better way to switch to fast crystal xp free !!

Nero only as bloated as you want it to be .

By black dog on 14.08.2009 - 04:08
i cant believe that people are still moaning about nero being bloatware .
when you install it you are given the option of doing a custom install and just install what you need . its very simple to do, but moaning is obviously more fun, for some . : )
you are also given the choice whether you want your file associations with nero . you can choose all, none or any you want .too easy if you leave your brain switched on .

you just got owned

By JJ on 14.08.2009 - 06:08
black dog just owned all you bloatware complainers. its true, you can just install nero burning rom if that is all you need. there are check boxes where you place ticks for each app you want installed. check them out sometime! there is even a free version which just does simple dvd/cd burning.

what a news...

By ahead on 14.08.2009 - 08:08
i use nero 8 in w7 without any trouble.

Good here

By Skully on 14.08.2009 - 12:08
had the same problems as michel, with dual layer failures, using nero 9 under vista. so until now have been using nero 7. when windows 7 rtm came out, decided to try nero 9 again...works perfectly. i also agree that nero is only as bloated as you want it to be.....you can strip it down to the core if you chose during install.

By NickereN2O on 14.08.2009 - 13:08

nero9

By ari on 14.08.2009 - 16:08
i use nero 7 lite with absolutely no problems, but imgburn is my burner program of choice.

Ever heard of Astroburn ?

By Conehead on 15.08.2009 - 00:08
for f****s sake , aastroburn is free and works great on all modern or semi modern win versions. most of us use daemon tools anyway so why not couple it with astroburn ! just make sure to download latest or near sptd layer and install as admin if using vista or seven !

astrowhat?????????

By ari on 15.08.2009 - 06:08
first i heard of this thing astroburn, looked at their website, will stick with imgburn, it's free too. as for daemontools, forget it.

Nero 7 works fine!

Nero 7 And Windows 7

By Wiley Coyotee on 19.08.2009 - 17:08
so you say nero 7 and windows 7 work okey together ?that would be great.i purchased nero 9,but have to admit i like nero 7 much more.i think nero 7 is alot more user friendly.i use nero vision 95% of the time, and find nero 7 much easier and quicker to use.why do they have to fix things when they are not broken ?i just hope nero seven vision works with windows 7 ok.
