Microsoft confirmed late on Friday that it plans to kill off the Windows 7 'E' version for Europe.

Microsoft announced late Friday that they will no longer be shipping Windows 7 E in Europe. Last week, the Redmond company had proposed shipping Windows 7 with a ballot screen on first boot that would allow users to choose from a variety of browsers to install including Internet Explorer. Microsoft will not wait for the European Commission to accept this proposal and will ship Windows 7 in Europe with the ballot screen implementation. This was Microsoft’s statement regarding the issue:

In the wake of last week’s developments, as well as continuing feedback on Windows 7 E that we have received from computer manufacturers and other business partners, I’m pleased to report that we will ship the same version of Windows 7 in Europe in October that we will ship in the rest of the world

The company originally proposed to ship Windows 7 in Europe without a browser, giving it the “E” version name. The move was made as a response to the complaints received by Europe’s antitrust regulators. But even so, the regulators had stated that Microsoft’s move did not necessarily satisfy their goals.

According to CNet, those who preordered Windows 7 E through a discount offer will get the full version. Microsoft will now be selling upgrade editions as well as a higher-priced full edition.

what if eu actually use their bojcott abilities and keeps windows 7 off the eu´s internal marcet for not complying with a formal eu-descision.

in that case microsoft products would be off the market in 27 countries.
ouch that would hurt...
