Windows Anytime Uprade
WAU allows users who purchase machines with Home Premium or Starter to move up to a higher edition of Windows 7. After Windows 7 is released to market on October 22nd, you will be able to buy a retail package that contains an upgrade key from retail outlets. The pricing structure will be (US, EU, GBP):
* Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium: $79.99 · €74.99 · £69.99
* Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Professional: $114.99 · €184.99 · £119.99
* Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Ultimate: $164.99 · €204.99 · £139.99
* Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional: $89.99 · €179.99 · £119.99
* Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate: $139.99 · €189.99 · £124.99
* Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate: $129.99 · €134.99 · £84.99
Updated: The upgrade pricing for UK customers appears to be a rip off where Brits and Europeans will be charged almost double in some cases for Windows 7 Anytime Upgrades. Microsoft has not yet returned emails on why the pricing is almost double. It's not immediately clear how Microsoft can charge double for what is only a code to upgrade.
Microsoft will also be offering WAU online upgrades in 13 countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK or the US.
Windows 7 Family Pack
Microsoft also announced that the Windows 7 Family Pack will be available on October 22 and priced at $149.99 in the US and $199.99 in Canada for three Windows 7 Home Premium licenses. Consumers will save $200 in the US by purchasing the Family Pack over individual copies. Microsoft did not supply pricing for markets other than the US and Canada.

you pay more for a japanese car in the u.s. and vice versa. why should software be the
exception? ms has to pay for all the lawsuits the european folks are stirring up some
way.
if they don't like it....let sir richard branson develope an os for them.
your comment bares no relation to software pricing. it is a rip off. stfu.
why not just buy a freeking msdn or technet sub, you will be 100 time better off
here's a tip to those in uk and europe - don't support rip off prices by purchasing the
product. buy it online from a us retailer. the us is generally cheaper for most goods.
personally, i dont think retailers are going to get away with charging so much more
outside of the us anymore.
i live in uk and are people forgetting 17.5% of that price is the vat sales tax that we
pay over here? are prices in the usa including a 17.5 % sales tax? maybe someone there can
let us know what tax is charged on usa windows..
that's why we us cracked software, total m$ rip-off, and uk users are treated like shit
as usual
windows price? what is that? in my little european country i don't now anyone who bought
windows. not a single sole. my mom doesnt know how to check email, but she copies cracked
exe just fine when she needs it. that is all ms fault. hope they go down in the near
future and linux gets its sh++ togeather and makes decent os. torrent sites gives win away
for free thanks god. by the way ms earns my country's years budget in a few hours.
graz - sales tax in the us varies according to the state you are in. it ranges from
around 5% to 9% and is added at the cash register. however, if you buy online from a state
outside the one you live in, you do not pay any sales tax. having said all that, even if
you add the us sales tax rates onto the price it still doesn't come anywhere near the uk
and euro price of windows. also, if you subtract 17.5% from the uk price it is still a lot
higher than the us price. conclusion - there is more to the price difference than just the
tax.
just can it and pay up folks yo know it makes sense...well to me anyway.
