Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversWindows 7 fans in Europe are in for a major disappointment. According to ComputerWorld, European customers will have to pay up to double the price for Windows 7 compared to the American counterparts.
No particular reason was given as to why Windows 7 will be priced so high in the EU. Windows 7 in the United Kingdom will be priced differently, but will still have significantly higher prices than their US counterparts.
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that European copies of Windows 7 will not contain IE8 as a response to the criticism coming from EU antitrust regulators. A browser-less version of edition called Windows 7E will be shipped instead. However, this has forced Microsoft to not allow its customers to perform any in-place upgrades from Vista, which would leave some version of IE on the computer.
Below are the prices for Windows 7 in the EU. Prices in the United Kingdom are different, but pricing in both regions are still significantly higher than the cheapest option offered in the United States. Below are the prices in Europe and the UK. Enclosed in the brackets are the same prices converted into US dollars according to todays exchange rate. Alongside are the differences in pricing compared to the Upgrade edition of Windows 7 in the US. We compared the Upgrade edition prices in the US since the full editions in Europe are being offered at the European upgrade edition prices.
Windows 7 Home Premium 119.99/£79.99 ($168.69/$132.22) Up $48.70/$12.23
Windows 7 Professional 284.99/£189.99 ($400.63/$314.05) Up $200.64/$114.06
Windows 7 Ultimate 299.99/£229.99 ($421.69/$380.17) Up $201.70/$160.18
Prices in the UK are cheaper than those in the EU, while Windows 7 Professional costs twice as much as its counterpart in the US. Windows 7 Ultimate, which retails for $219.99 in the US, costs almost 90% more in the EU, and 73% more in the UK.
Fortunately for some Europeans, Microsoft does plan to offer its great Windows 7 pre-order special in France, Germany, and the UK. The pre-order program for those countries will begin on July 15 and run while supplies last, or until August 14th. The pre-order pricing are as follows:
* Windows 7 Home Premium 49.99/£49.99
* Windows 7 Professional 109.99/£99.99

and they wonder why people pirate it.
how many billions has the eu fined microsoft? the eu targets non eu companies to sue to
keep failing eu buisnesses afloat and to fatten their own wallets, im surprised ms even
bothered to sell another os in europe. on the bright side, this should encourage linux
adoption over there
mass eu migration to linux
get less pay more, like buying a car, same same
tough nockies to all the euro trash who peddle their inferior bug ridden products (opera
anyone?)
it is time to migrate all people to open technologies!!!!
people think how to use
linux!!!!
united states antitrust law is the body of laws that prohibits anti-competitive behavior
(monopoly) and unfair business practices. antitrust laws are designed to encourage
competition in the marketplace. [1] these competition laws make illegal certain practices
deemed to hurt businesses or consumers or both, or generally to violate standards of
ethical behavior. government agencies known as competition regulators, along with private
litigants, apply the antitrust and consumer protection laws in hopes of preventing market
failure. the term "antitrust" was originally formulated to combat "business trusts",
now more commonly known as cartels. other countries use the term "competition law". many
countries including most of the western world have antitrust laws of some form; for
example the european union has provisions under the treaty of rome to maintain fair
competition, as does australia under its trade practices act 1974
i will install windows 7 pirated until price drops let's say to 80 euros for ultimate
edition and i will install linux just to be more familiar with. finaly i strongly beleive
piracy is the strong tool of presure to those companies.
"we compared the upgrade edition prices in the us since the full editions in europe are
being offered at the european upgrade edition prices"
this gives a totally wrong
impression... if it's the full editions in europe, compare to the full edition prices...
us prices are better for everything - electronics, cars, clothes, sporting goods,
software. eu and uk retailers should explain why they charge so much more. oh thats right
- they can't, they are just greedy.
the ue is a loving and caring political thing they run xp and they like it for kidpron
any os is suitable.
'revenge is a dish best served cold...' or more likely 'please extend the red carpet
for osx and linux'. double-double-cross!
but i heard that microsoft was going to give the non-upgrade for the upgrade pricing, to
keep the people in europe happy.
i sometimes completely hate microsoft. they
have great offers, but they are almost never available in europe (pre-test office, windows
7 test program, pre-order windows 7 for a 58% lower price etc.)
the pre-order program is limited to 77000 copies, when theses copies are finished, the
promotion ends.
fake ass microsoft
in the freely (after registration) downloadable win7 rc, users are allowed changing the
system language via windows update. so, if m$ won't inhibit that, anyone could buy win7
in the states and change language later, after installation, to their home language.
never bought single microsoft product, don't plan to start now. i have all ms products
of course, pirated just the way ms deserves it :)
also the ones at the african coasts they rule and the eu cannot stand it course they
would like kewl shit like that in eu waters also.
eu sues the hel out of them every releasr the most retarded reasons.and they wonder why
they don't roll ou the red carpet???
heck....are they to dumb to know that all
software is free with a rapidshare acount?
i agree... if pricing continues to be higher than the usa, then i will continue to use
any means available to use this,or any, software for free!
they are only screwing
themselves in the long run!
