2. Download iPod Touch 2G Firmware 3.0 IPSW iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
& iPod Touch 1G Firmware 3.0 IPSW iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
3. Connect your iPod Touch to computer
4. Start iTunes 8.2 & Select iPod Touch from devices list
5. Hold Shift and click Restore.
6. Locate iPod Touch ipsw files downloaded in step 2
7. Do not disconnect till iTunes has completed updating iPod Touch

im afraid to do step 5 because i really dont want to lose all of my data. does it delete

yes it delete everything but you can sync all back after...
you should be able to do the same witrh the "check for update" button. ...just hold
shift and click it and you won't have to restore. ...but if your device is jailbroken, i
recommend restoring because it will cause problems in the long run.
this must be for the 10 people that actually own an iphone. junk updated with junk is
still junk. get a blackberry.

why is the file not a .ipsw but a .zip? how do i get this in the right format?

the file is an ipsw. your winzip or winrar probably changed how it
looks but it is a ipsw.

you can right click and save link as and you'll be able to download the file. however
once i downloaded the file and tried to update my ipod as said, it came up with an error
saying that the firmwaree is not compatible. what do i do?
