Windows 7, how low can it go?

It is well known that Windows 7 is a huge step up from Vista as well as XP. It allows users with computers that could barely run Vista to run 7 much faster and more efficiently.

It is relatively safe to say, that Windows 7 will be the first version of Windows, that does not constantly remind you that you need to upgrade your computer. Since the first beta was released a few months ago, I have done around 25-30 installs of Windows 7. On every type of system, from a 3 GHz quad core system, to a 1.3 GHz single core laptop. On every single one of those installs Windows 7 greatly improved performance and reliability.

The install we want to highlight here is the 1.3 GHz laptop. Even by today's net book crazy market, this is an under powered laptop. With less then 512 MB of ram and an Intel Celeron M CPU, it's no speed demon. Nonetheless, it was amazing how fast it ran and installed Windows 7. Check out the full install and test video below

i have it running on a celeron 400 with 512mb and its fairly slow but functional all the same. couldn't find a driver for the nvidia 4200ti so i stripped if from a vista cd. but it will not complete a wei.

Might be Fake

for it to be that responsive on that kind of spec is just mad either it is real or it has been modified. also with that after it says welcome it does not have wlm and after 1 sec less than that wlm is there. also to back it up he does not at one point show the spec of the pc by using my computer.

Might be Fake

Runs fine on 6 year old desktop

By Taka on 24.05.2009 - 09:05
i ran win7 rc on p4 3.06ghz 2gb system with gf7600 videocard and it ran just fine. noticeable faster than vista.

Not as fast as some are claiming

By MMK on 24.05.2009 - 09:05
i don't understand why people keep talking about how fast windows 7 is. i have been using windiws 7 since the first beta and now i am runnung build 7027 on my 2.5gh core 2 duo hp laptop with 4gb of ram. i find it's speed comparable to vista, a little quicker but still comparable to vista.

not 7027

By MMK on 24.05.2009 - 11:05
i meant 7127

7 the son of vista

By chaoas and woe on 25.05.2009 - 09:05
running w7rc1 on a dual core 1.8ghz 2 gig ram system and its much faster than vista.looks more like an update than a separate o/s but its how vista should have been.ms should give vista owners 50% discount on 7

Install 7127

By wow on 25.05.2009 - 18:05
i got 7127 installed on:

80486dx 100mhz
4mb ram
256mb harddisk
1mb svga

Wow...What an Idiot!

By Dill Weed. on 22.06.2009 - 23:06
windows with no application does run pretty fast. but start installing apps and it will come to a halt! case in point: install office 2008 on that laptop and take so time test again. what are like 15. been using window since xp. you have to know the history to see there is nor progress. just taking you money and getting richer the microsoft way!
