"Features"

By Jones111 on 28.04.2009 - 23:04
i do like 7, but these are not the killer features:

- faster install time is not really a problem on a pc not older than 3 years.
- netbook support is only a problem, because microsoft sets a performance limit for netbooks running xp, so they won't evolve until microsoft changes the contracts
- you can't remove the ie. its drawing routines are essential for windows and only the shortcuts will be removed, while the functionality remains.
- better uac control allows you to set your security level down to where it was in xp and you'll open your system for troyans and viruses if you decrease the settings.

the real killing features are:

- the superbar where you can manage more programs at the same time faster and in your own order.
- aerosnap for working with 2 apps at the same time.
- built-in powershell to automate dayly actions with a very good syntax.
- guestmode (removed from rc) allowed you to have a very save guest account.
- librarys for ordering the content of many partitions in one collection (although winfs was better)
- recently used lists everywhere for fast document opening.
- advanced search
- more speed (if it's fast in the beta, what speed will it have as rtm?)

not true

actually, it only leaves in mshtml.dll and such in system32. if you remove ie8 from the add/remove windows components panel, it will actually delete the program files entry of internet explorer - which is more than what xp did.

of course, the files are still present, since pretty much all windows installer files exist in windows ever since xp - this is so you don't need to find your install disc in case you want to add/remove some windows features (like you had to in windows 98).

MS's Final Solution to Xp

By servocrow on 29.04.2009 - 02:04
ms's answer to make up revenue lost on vista as well as "fix" vista is windows 7. however what noone is talking about is the fact that 7 hates xp! i have tried networking my a$$ off to no avail in several different enviromements...making me the end user having to switch all my 6 pcs to one os to network to each other. the new and not so improved network feature on 7 is its biggest road block, otherwise yes i do like this os, however this network holocaust of xp should be noted.

WIN+P

Huh??

By skully on 29.04.2009 - 14:04
win 7 networks with xp just fine if you set it up right.
on your win 7 machine, go to start...run. type in gpedit.msc, select windows settings under computer configuration, select security settings, select local policies, select security options, then go to microsoft network client: send unencrypted password to third-party smb servers, set it to "enabled".
make sure you have given permission to your shared folder(s) to be accessed by everyone.

My try report.
