Google Android, a Windows 7 netbook killer?

Rumours are spreading that Google is in talks with leading netbook producers to offer a version of Android in anticipation of competing with Microsoft's own Windows 7, an operating system designed to be flexible enough to target everything from the basic netbook market to high-end gaming PCs.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that HP and others are working with Google to develop netbooks starring Android.

Claims that Google would be getting into the operating systems business go back at least three years, but the current rumours could well prove to be true. Android is well developed, some key players appear to be in place, and the Google name resonates more strongly with the public. It could even mean a serious challenge to Microsoft's mindshare.

The original ASUS offerings in the market provided an XP-themed version of Linux, Firefox, and OpenOffice.org, and so gave consumers the basics they needed to get what most of them needed to get done. Microsoft fought back with a modified (and cheaper) version of XP to appeal to those comfortable with that OS. However, while such an offering has proved popular on netbooks, some consumers have seen the true costs of going with the familiar: in particular, no office software installed by default.

anyone who think a new operating system can come in and take any market share from anyone that has any kind of track record is nuts.... and on top of that any computer manufacture that would taunt this is positioning them for ultimate failure. google’s android is just barely hanging in there as a mobile phone operating system. it's a good thing they have a gazillion dollars behind them to feed their market.

Never heard of Google Android

i've been with google for many years mainly with search engine but never come across android talk that much.

i believe that no matter what new operating systems come out they have a hard challenge in front of them capturing any market share.

convenience is the key to marketing os. if an os is easy to use and easy to manage then it will be liked by society.

Go Go Go Google!

a joke for some of us but could be a big big threat to microsoft... i agree that no one can take the software market, espedially the os, that easy, with just launching it over the net without loosing 'gazillion' dollars first... but as far as i know, google has already build his name and conquers the internet and software market, specially on free and fastest search engine, free giga size web mail, free sophisticated internet browser and possibly free, secure, and safe google android soon...

most people wants new look, therefore lets wait and see for what is google move....

Go Go Go Google!
