Windows XP support ending - Linux looking better?

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversWe’ve all known that this time was coming, and now it’s nearly upon us. Come April 14th Microsoft will pull the plug on free support for Windows XP (and Office 2003) and the only option available to users will be paid support, which only applies to XP Professional.
Now, security patches will still be developed and released for XP until April 2014, so is the end of free support a big deal? Well, I think that it is, given that Windows XP currently commands a 63.5% market share (I don’t have breakdown data for Home vs. Professional). Being in a siltation where nearly two-thirds of all PCs out there don’t have access to free support sounds to me like it has the potential to cause a lot of folks trouble.
Over the past couple of years or so I’ve heard from a lot of people who claim that they are going to do something once Microsoft “pulls the plug” on XP. Many of these users were loyal and entrenched XP supporters who realized that XP’s reign would eventually come to an end. Some claimed that they would bite the bullet and upgrade to Vista (or maybe hold out until Windows 7). Others claimed that Mac OS X was their future, while others were tired of paying for operating systems and were going to become Linux users. Well, no matter what your plans for the future are, Microsoft is certainly in the early stages of pulling the plug on XP and if you’re an XP user then it’s time to at least start planning on your escape strategy.

every time i come back into my windows partition after a linux session it's like a
breath of fresh air. i'll play around with linux but couldn't seriously use it 24/7,
life's too short to spend hours in forums posting questions on how to do the simplest of
tasks
while i don't play many games, it's nice knowing i can play them without wine slowing
them down or not playing them at all.
so, instead of using xp without free official support (only paid support), the better
thing would be to switch to linux? a totally new os with different enviroments, and a
whole set of new applications?
i mean, you'll leave all the applications
compatibility, change your whole it environment and applications, just because xp free
support is coming to an end? the preliminary cost itself is incalculable.
even though the free support is going for win xp, a user can always just go to google and
9 times out of 10 get the answer for free. seeings how xp has been out for so long a good
portion of the questions have been answered already. besides i cant remember the last i
actually went to microsoft for an answer and actual got one that worked.
yeah switch to linux because it offers such great support lol
xp ... from my dying hand!
my opinion is they have to upgrade there hardware first to move on
to install
windows vista or windows 7 or linux that will cost them money
and not all desktops
and laptops support linux
thanks
