Windows 7s draconian DRM?

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 18.2.2009

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated drivers

Once again, we see fanciful claims about ludicrous DRM schemes in the new Windows operating system, but a closer look suggests that Windows isn't to blame after all. Most users, in fact, won't even notice Windows 7's DRM.

The popular technology website Slashdot plumbed new depths on Tuesday with a post about the terrible DRM situation in Windows 7. Proving that some sites will publish just about anything as long as it's anti-Microsoft, the post enumerated the DRM restrictions that Windows 7 apparently inflicts on the honest and upstanding computer user.

What was claimed? Well, some guy decided that he wanted to crack his (legally purchased, no doubt) copy of Photoshop on his Windows 7 install. Windows 7 then sprung into life to break his crack, defend Photoshop's virtue against his unwelcome advances, protect a load of random DLLs from deletion, and open up the firewall so that Adobe could see that he was up to no good. Yup yup. To add insult to injury, Windows 7 then crippled the dude's sound card. Or something.

F*** That

By Unknown Guy on 19.02.2009 - 00:02
i will most defiantly not be using win7 if this is the case.

i'm sure you're being sarcastic

By yoyoma on 19.02.2009 - 00:02
drm is barely noticeable in vista, and given how popular it has been in the public eye *eye-roll*, i'm sure that it will not be a big deal in win7.

as if a microsoft product cares whether or not an adobe product is legitimately licensed...

lol, i think you's are getting the wrong end of the stick

By calo on 19.02.2009 - 00:02
guys the article is intended to imply that they're liars saying that cracking software on win7 will do them things. just because they're anti-microsoft.
its not true. lol
as yoyoma said it will be prossible like vista, which was never a big deal.

only trouble i had

By davo on 19.02.2009 - 01:02
there was a audiodg.exe that was running my cpu at 100% its part of windows drm had to disable a enhancement too stop it its in vista aswell

wow first post, you're retarded.

By firerain on 19.02.2009 - 03:02
the claim is satire, there's no drm in the os that does what the guy claims, if your so paranoid, download the os yourself and do what he did, nothing will happen

Obviuosly

By Fat32 on 19.02.2009 - 03:02
another linux nazi spreading fudd...

THE GUYS IS STUPID

By pedrinho1977 on 19.02.2009 - 08:02
the guy is stupid and a liar i'm runnig windows 7 build 7000 and i have adobe cs4 master suite installed since december and it works great and for your information that's not the only software i have cracked so anyone who believes this guy is more stupid than he is.

What Incentive will there be to buy windows 7?

By Cyteck on 19.02.2009 - 11:02
i think microsoft is in grave danger of repeating the xp vista problem it got itself into during 2008. i ask what real incentive will people have to upgrade from windows vista to windows 7 i have yet to be convinced that there will be any real advantage in win7. therefore microsoft might have a problem with a vista win7 market share problem all over again. and that's not even taking into account that we may well still be in the depths of a sever recession when win7 is released to the general public (retail).

Incentive!

By Jagged Rock on 19.02.2009 - 12:02
cyteck, have you tried windows 7? obviously not,if you don't know what the incentive is!

win7 does nothing of the sort - don't believe the nonsense

By drwillmore on 19.02.2009 - 17:02
ppl win7 is by far the best retail os we've ever seen. i'm running win7 beta for months now with no problems and trust me: i'm using tons of cracks. the whole drm story is nonsense if not intentionally malignant. win7 is a decent os with no stupid drm strings attached. go study computer science then become anti-microsoft. some ppl will just say anything as long as it's against the s/w giant. fine! the choice is yours, but stopping spreading c-r-a-p!

don't believe the nonsense !

By hackberry on 19.02.2009 - 22:02
drwillmore is right, i have been running build 7002 for as long as its been available, and i pay for no software ! ! antivirus, everything is cracked, always has been, always will be,. no issues at all with win 7 here! in fact everything runs a lot better, starts faster, everything. much better than vista ! try it you'll like it !

im not with the twits

By davo on 20.02.2009 - 01:02
i like window7 craps all over vista and im happy to say beats xp i also have had no probs with cracks but it does have drm in it look it up audiodg.exe 1 system was fine the other sat at 100% cpu and i had too disable a enhancement for it too stop

Piracy

By The Vicar on 23.02.2009 - 23:02
i'm glad microsoft is clamping down on piracy, people like me who spend £10,000 on the latest software feel hard done by to find the stuff free on a p2p. anybody else found avg 8 popping up a nag lately?
