Internet Explorer 8 RC1 - First look

Yesterday Microsoft made available Internet Explorer 8 RC1 (release candidate 1), which means that as far as Microsoft is concerned, IE8 is cooked and that barring anything major, this will become the final release. So, what’s the new browser like?

A new release of IE is always important because this is the browser that many millions of Windows users will be surfing the web with daily. Like it or not, by the very fact that IE is knitted into every Windows installation makes this an important event.

After what seemed like years of stagnation, Microsoft is continuing the tradition of kitting out IE8 with features that users of other browsers take for granted. That said, there are very nice features built into IE8, which include:

Smart Address Bar

Enhanced find

Tab groups

InPrivate

Crash recovery

IE 8.0 RC1 VERY FAST INDEED

By Cyteck on 28.01.2009 - 11:01
i downloadd ie8.0 rc1 (i have been using ie for years in different versions)and it installed smoothly if a little slow on both my boxes (xp pro sp3 & vista sp1). i have found ie8.0 to be very fast and very nice so far but i still prefer both firefox & opera which i have been using for some time due to higher levels of security. nop!! ie8.0 rc1 was worth the wait imo its nice but it doesn't exactly rock my world.

Yeah.....

By screw it on 28.01.2009 - 14:01
eh lets forget about trying new technologies. stay in the stone age you lamers! don't bother with windows 7 either as it may be too much for you wussys to handle. go buy a mac you fags.

Is it just me or IE8RC1 is much Faster than IE8b2?!

By Peter on 28.01.2009 - 17:01
i was surprised with the speed diference between ie8 beta 2 and the ie8 release candidate1.
ie8 rc1 feels much faster imo!

Who still uses this crap?

By Mark D on 28.01.2009 - 20:01
other than for windows update, who in their right mind still uses ie? firefox has many more features, is customizable, has a much smaller footprint ram-wise, and just looks better.

I.E STILL THE WORST

By EARWAX on 28.01.2009 - 23:01
who cares ?????
firefox rules and always will

YEP!! Still a FireFox 3.0.5 Fan

By Cyteck on 28.01.2009 - 23:01

By rivit on 29.01.2009 - 16:01
still got the problem that ie will not show up some websites, also in compatility mode :(

Firefox is no better than IE orChrome!

By Dereck on 29.01.2009 - 19:01
so why there's so much good appraisals for firefox on the web?
that's simple, cause the firefox's community is the noisiest of them all!

Resource usage

By wubbles on 30.01.2009 - 10:01
in the era of 1gb+ ram does +/- 30mb of ram really matter that much?

IE8 RC1

By Tylor on 01.02.2009 - 04:02
i think that rc1 is indeed faster than beta 2, but still too slow to stop me from using google chrome. it's cleaner, faster, more organized, and very functional.
