Microsoft released Windows 7 Beta few weeks ago and the only version that was released during this beta was Windows 7 Ultimate. However, a select testers were invited for a separate Windows 7 Home Premium Beta program.

It is still unclear about the different Windows 7 versions that Microsoft is planning to release. A chinese website has leaked the Windows 7 build 7025 screenshots which could have answered the different versions of Windows 7, Microsoft is planning to release.

Without any further discussion, below is the leaked screenshot:

So, there you go. It looks like Microsoft is still going along Windows Vista's path in releasing a Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions. It is really disappointing to see a Windows 7 Home Basic edition - May be it is a 'touch-free' version or would it be a version specifically targeted towards netbooks?

One more thing to notice in the leaked screenshots are the good old Quick Launch and Show Desktop Icon!

Neowin had reported earlier that IE 8 RC1 is due soon and the leaked screenshots do confirm that IE 8 RC1 is on its way!

Hmmm...looks fake but if were true it would be a major step back

By Will on 26.01.2009 - 00:01
hmmm...looks fake but if were true it would be a major step backwards for microsoft. firstly, obviously there is no aero so im not going to comment on its eye candy but why with the old school quick launcher, i prefer the new style (yes i know you can disable it but why bother including it). to be honest it really looks like build 6801 with superbar enabled and ie rc1 somehow installed.

on another note, build 7000 (beta 1) is freaking awesome. its fast, reliable and looks great, i use it as my main os atm.

ugly ui

By jack on 26.01.2009 - 00:01
they just made the taskbar even more ugly with the legacy quick launch and low small ugly program icons.

will, aero is not enabled as it appears it was intalled in a virtual machine, and aero will not work on that, even with vista

Quicklaunch

By NotSomeoneElse on 26.01.2009 - 04:01
the quicklaunch buttons can be big or small - i agree, the small icons are not pretty next to the 1.5 taskbar. as for doing away with quicklaunch, there are many legitimate reasons to keep it, not the least of which is user preference: ms already alienated enough people with the jump from xp to vista - it wouldn't be wise to completely remove a popular ui component (regardless of the other options available) when trying to win back the hearts and minds of consumers. i work with a variety of oss and one of the major reasons i do not prefer osx is the application centric gui and dock - a window centric gui with a separate launcher provides a much more comfortable and sensible environment for they way i work. i, for one, welcome the return of our quicklaunch masters. to each their own.

why why why

By zm on 26.01.2009 - 05:01
why would they restore quick launch when the superbar itself is a quick launch.. wtf

quicklaunch

By stonyi1 on 26.01.2009 - 05:01
i welcome the quicklaunch back, i edited build 7's registry just so i could have it. i like the quick launch because it keeps my desktop clean. i put all of my shortcuts in the quick launch

Fake build

By Luthian on 26.01.2009 - 06:01
just from what i know from the connect windows 7 beta newsgroups, i can safely say that this is a fake, the compile date is wrong (doesn't mesh with what some of the msft staff have been hinting)

Just Fake

idiots

By notthathard on 26.01.2009 - 17:01
you can choose to enable win7 quick launch in gpedit.msc (and many people chose to, since it is not the same as the taskbar) ... it ... allows you to have subfolders and collapse things. the above may be fake, but not because of that or any other stupid comments above.

Vitsta & Windows 7 still look like a ripped off of Mac OS X

By cyteck on 27.01.2009 - 12:01
hi,
i used to support apple macs g3's & g4's running mac os x back in 1999 & to me vista & windows 7 still look like a ripped off microsoft version of the os x gui.

if you have moved up to vista from xp what will be the incentive to upgrade yet again from vista to win 7?? i think microsoft are very much in danger of repeating the same past mistake re: xp vista problem of the market share.

**plus my guess is that win7 wont run on xp hardware i think thats pretty much a given now.

mac mac mac

By zm on 28.01.2009 - 04:01
just get lost with mac..

i dont get it why people are taking the "rip-off" shit so seriously.

who cares - it's just a damn os so just use it, if you bother to.

MS made the same mistake

By bill gates on 28.01.2009 - 19:01
look at how ms decided to release windows 7 into 5 versions, this is just why vista fail. too many version just make 7 feel the same as vista, confusing to end-consumers. i mean what the hell is home basic, home premium, business, ultimate crap? for me those just bullshit-crap that ms made up to make more money out of confused consumers.

This is most likely fake

By obama on 30.01.2009 - 01:01
if this is true then it would be a major step back for windows

os x 10.0 for desktops was released in 2001. i wonder what were you supporting back in '99. i have an imac dv - (g3 at 400 mhz) with 768 mb ram and it can't even play youtube videos. and it's the dv edition!!! for editting video, with a firewire port!!! maybe it would run better with os9, but hell, it looks worse than win3.1. let the flame war begin :)))

Apple GUI vs. Ms GUI?!

By some guy on 10.02.2009 - 03:02
anyone that is an apple user that claims windows vista or windows 7 is a ripoff of a mac gui certainly is not an apple user. apple os and windows now and always have looked and functioned completely different! apple os's haven't always looked pretty, actually they only just got color in 1996 with the powermac g3, but they have always been lightening fast with rock-solid stability. windows vista wasn't all bad, just slow at moving data around. windows 7 is definately speedy (approx.4 times faster than vista) in terms of data transfer rates but its stability has yet to be determined and never could be until full insurgence and implementation.
p.s. os-x was released in 1999(not 2001) on the powermac g4 with an os9 virtual machine for those old apps that wouldn't run on os-x, which was apples migration to a completely new gui architecture. kinda what microshaft is going through right now between xp and vista/win7, only difference...apple got it right the first time;)

Seven and Vista

By ColdSpirit on 19.02.2009 - 17:02
some guy... in terms of stability, vista is terrible... too much incompatibility, too much slowliness, too much heavy, too much system requirements and even with a top notch computer vista is still slow!!! seven with a p4 1.5ghz, 512mb ram runs soooo good seven!!!
