Six new annoyances introduced in Windows 7
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 9.1.2009
Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversAs a flip-side to Ed Bott’s “Six Vista annoyances fixed in Windows 7” I thought I’d play Devil’s Advocate and offer up what I think are a selection of potentially new annoyances that Windows 7 introduces.
1 - Revamped Taskbar and Start Menu are far from perfect
My take on the Taskbar and Start Menu is that it’s going to be one of those things that people either love or hate. Like any major change in the user interface it is bound to attract automatic criticism, but given that it is undoubtedly flawed.
The new revamped taskbar is visually very interesting (and certainly a lot easier to use at higher screen resolutions that the Vista or XP taskbar), but it tries to do too much and as such comes across as kludgey and counter-intuitive. One failure is that it’s hard to tell the difference between apps that are running and shortcuts that have been pinned to the taskbar.
2 - Goodbye Classic theme
If you never really bonded with the Vista look and preferred to use the Classic look, then Windows 7 isn’t for you because the Classic theme is gone. OK, there is a Classic theme, but it’s basically the new Start Menu with a new skin and nothing like the classic Classic theme.
3 - Ribbon UI make a patchy appearance
The Ribbon UI in Office 2007 was one of those love it or hate it changes. Well, whether you loved it or hated it, the Ribbon now makes an appearance in Windows 7 on Paint and WordPad. If you like the Ribbon, great, you get to play with it in a few apps, while not in others. If you hate the Ribbon, well, tough, you’re stuck with it in these apps.
4 - For some users, Windows 7 will mean more time spent setting up
Gone are applications such as Windows Mail, Windows Messenger, Movie Maker and so on. Anyone wanting apps of this sort will need to download then via Windows Live Essentials. Problem is, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure and if you use these apps Windows 7 means having to download and set up the apps that you need.
5 - Search is odd
Why is it that when I search for say “Note” from the Start Menu I get Sticky Notes above Notepad? I’ve noticed countless such examples of strange behavior from the search system. Either it’s not been fully refined yet, or there’s some strange logic at work there.
6 - Jump Lists are messy
Jump Lists is a new feature that Microsoft claims will give the user access to tasks related to specific applications. Depending on the applications, you get a different set of options in the Jump List, and that’s a problem because there little consistency to what you can expect from a Jump List to make them useful.source:

what the heck is a jump list?
1. the dude is clearly blind. it's a sinch to distinguish between shortcuts and open
windows in taskbar. open windows have a 3d glass window over them. the new taskbar alone
is reason enough to upgrade to this version of windows.
2. ? idiot
3. how often do you use paint and wordpad? i love the ribbon ui btw
4. have you
even used the installer? you download execute it tick the programs you want and the rest
is automatic... wow that was hard...
5. idiot that's a feature... it's trying
to show smart results. like try typing in uninstall...
6. jumplists are a god
send... i have pinned notepad and acrobat reader to the taskbar. i can now open my
favorite txts and pdfs with a simple rightclick...
anoyances? wtf
f**k i second you in saying he is blind whats your problem with windows 7 its a mean
operating systema and i am goign to upgrade when it gets released because of the new task
bar.
that author was an idiot...this is why re tards shouldn't use a computer. like omg i
hate how there's a start menu, i just want the os to know what i want opened gosh darn
it.
dude there is a reason behind every happening... if u'd remember using the msn messanger
that was already installed in xp ...no one ever used it...infact they had to install a new
version of it everytime.. so its a good thing secondly taskbar are pretty exciting and
cool.. the only problem with people out these is to accept the change...this new taskbar
really helped me avoid piles of webpages qued on my taskbar into a single icon thing...i
love the 2007 and its freaking awesome.. and its easy to adopt the new change...so be cool
and relax...accept the new change and avoid finding the classy theme because it was
sluggish anyways !!! and trust me if you can find 7 reasons to get annoyed i can tell you
100 reasons to get annoyed by xp ;)
those aren't annoyances. those are just some shitty "personal perference" arguments.
as for no. 5, that isn't a bug whatsoever cuz the search will put the most
frequent used program on top after you searched.
1. there's no difference now between running app and shortcut in the taskbar. there's
a good reason for that. space! having a shortcut and a icon for the same running app is
redundant you moron.
2. classic theme?? really?? upgrade your lame a s s
computer!
3. who the f u c k uses paint or wordpad?? if anything microsoft
should take that useless garbage out of the os!
4. again, who the f u c k uses
those apps?? nobody!! that's why they were removed!!
5. search is fine! who
gives a s h i t what order it puts them in. it found notepad for me just fine!
6. something you aren't forced to use is an annoyance?
windows 7 is coming so
get used to it!
it seems that most of you have fallen into the trap. the author wants clicks and he gets
them by writing a slightly provocative text, and then he lean backwards in his chair and
watch his ad revenues go up.
so who is an idiot?
wow if hes sittn in his chair doing that then he needs to get laid. i clicked the
headline to pass the time as did probably most others, leaving a comment while your here
is normal. i seriously doubt anyone actually cares what the author has to say and prolly
clicked the headline for the same reason i did. if he wants revenue then he should have
said something like this. "windows 7 to make it easier to download p0rn" and let the
idiots come. this one he made is lamer than sh1t.
clearly some idiot made this list. get a life and stop moaning. bah.
we love windows xp, vista and windows 7 are for n00bagers haahahahah
i am not a microsoft fan by any means...but windows 7 is a bad ass operating system, and
it's only in beta! unlike in vista, the new features actually make the os more
functional! i could care less about the flashy eye candy...what i look for is speed,
functionality, and reliability, as a full time linux user part time windows user.....i am
impressed with windows 7!
i'm sure explorer.exe still leaks gdi objects/handles and needs to be killed/re-started
or system rebooted once a week. also ms can kiss my .$$ if they think they can kill the
classic theme.
i'm a "classic" junky...it's the first change i made in xp and vista, but all
"classic" did in vista was remove aero, and change everything back to dull windows
colors. it didn't change the location of things or the names of things back to the way
they were in xp. so what's the point? i could care less what color scheme i'm using. i
guess a "classic" color scheme\theme could be created in 7, but what's the point? if
it's performance you want...just turn off aero and use basic.
yet another mac lover bashing windows. they see something that is far superior to
leopard and can't handle it so they have to bash it.
actually, that is a good sign
and it it is fantastic to see them quiver in their boots.
i have been on windows 7 for a while and while i don't like the taskbar as it is in
default (ungrouped setting i can deal with) i do like all the other points. (just my
opinion not arguing wioth anyone)
the author is right and got most of the problems in windows 7.
i think i rather stay
with vista's interface and certenly taskbar.
if you're feeling bad about rebooting a computer weekly, you shouldn't bother using a
computer to begin with. where do you get off with rebooting weekly? the ms os's need to
be rebooted more than weekly. that's been a fact since there's been a ms. this harks
back to the later 80's when people were leaving the computers on 24 hours a day and then
wondering why the things wouldn't work any more...
why would anyone use a desktop os that doesnt come with some basic apps installed? why
the f**k do you need to download your apps? i know why, so that ms can block software
pirates from downloading the apps they need ! ( i know you can download freeware
alternatives but why should you have to go to all that trouble? ) hello mac-os and linux,
goodbye windblows.
heres an annoyance nvlddmkm.sys bsod.
2. about time they removed the classic start menu. if goes back to win95 and people need
to stop being afraid of change.
nvlddmkm.sys is a nvidia driver, might not be ms at fault and remember this is beta
software.
you're expecting perfection from something that is, by definition, an unfinished
product?
the author is stating his opinion and true the opinion is about an unfinished product but
who knows what windows 7 will be like when it is officialy released so give the author a
break. you people won't be forced to use windows 7 when it is released unless you want to
and every os changes from the next and sometimes you have to remove a few redundant things
but at least offer a way to get them back if need be.
