Chris Holmes, Windows Enthusiast and blogger, has posted a short and somewhat blurry video of the new Windows 7 boot screen in action.

The latest sign of changes for Windows 7 signals a departure from the Vista boot up screen. Microsoft kept the boot screen simple with Vista after asking BIOS makers, PC makers, and video card makers to remove product advertisement screens at system boot. Microsoft created a simple boot method which it claimed took 6 seconds off initial boot compared to the more graphical boot that it had originally planned with the Longhorn betas.

At PDC many reader comments here at Neowin were "what's the new boot screen like?" when Microsoft first unveiled Windows 7 to the world. We posted a video at the time but Microsoft have been working hard towards their January goal and have updated it as shown below.

the way i see it, m$ can do what they want; no one cares/just uses needed product to get sh!t done. they talked about customizing xp's boot, logon screens, etc. then said vista will offer hi-res boot/logon screens (which it does) but m$ claims that programs thst utilize these features are dangerous. until m$ makes a program to support these features no one is going to care how they tweak it. if we cant do it, we cant be impressed by their "upgrades" in its abilities. m$, please support your os's functions as much as you tout them. make the os work like you claim, or dont release it... and let us tweak it as you say we can, and help us do it; or dont offer it/ talk about it!

you have the largest market share, while having the most hated product! you have created the perfect nessicary evil! great job!!!!!

i think the only thing sadder than a person filming 20 seconds of a boot screen, are those willing to assign technical merit to said 20 seconds.

boot time

By fdk on 05.12.2008 - 19:12
doesn't this add to boot time isnt that the reason vista has such a plain boot screen is because having better looking boot screens adds more time.
