Do not make Win 7 too Mac-like

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversBlogger Paul Thurrott has written a couple of interesting posts about the difference between “simple” and “easy” in the context of Windows 7.
ure, Windows 7 is still in the pre-beta phase, meaning the user-interface elements still will be tweaked considerably before the product is released to manufacturing. But Thurrott raises a number of points that left me nodding my head in agreement.
I am a Windows user by choice, not simply because I blog about Microsoft. When I saw the recent demos of Windows 7 — with its JumpLists, AeroPeek, AeroSnaps and lots of other eye candy — I was torn. I want some of what’s coming in Windows 7, such as fewer UAC prompts, simpler backup and restore, better peripheral handling. But I really do not care if I get more fancy bells and whistles that just clutter my desktop.
Thurrott blogged:
“Windows 7 basically takes Windows one step closer to the design aesthetic of the Mac, where form is valued over function. I’m not sure this is the right strategy. Simplicity, taken in isolation, may seem like a good idea. But I’m afraid that in Windows 7, Microsoft is sacrificing too much in its bid to be more like Apple. And it’s the users of Windows who will pay the price.”
If you are a PC user like me, you definitely will pay the price. I value ease of use far more than fancy graphics. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive — and given the direction Microsoft ends up taking once it provides testers with the Superbar — maybe they won’t.
(Given Beta 1 of Windows 7, which many are now expecting around January 13, is supposed to be feature-complete, I’m expecting we’ll get to see what the Superbar will look like real soon now. Me? I still think we might see Win 7 Beta 1 on or around December 17, but in either case, it’s not too long until we see the latest Windows 7 look and feel.)

in my opinion vista has already takes ideeas from linux, and w7 goes further. what i've
seen until now is still more linux than mac. but harder to work with...
i'd been loving vista for a long time, but recently i'd started booting into xp sp3 to
play my games. soon i started using xp for other tasks as well. the boot to vista was too
much of a hassle.
after a few weeks, i've realized how much niftier xp is
than vista! i really don't feel like shifting back to vista at all. i have windows 7 too
but xp is faster than that too. so they've sped up the user interface in windows 7. it
makes it more a pleasure to use than vista, but xp, especially for gamers is here to stay.
i'm using windows 7 to type this, and whatever your concerns may be, they seem grounded
more in opinion and mysticism than fact.
truth be told, the new start bar feels
more like gnome for windows than anything else. after a week of constant usage windows 7
has not let me down. all the same functionality of my vista machine, except with a little
aesthetic coating -some of which actually helps my productivity.
i'm sure in
january, your baseless fears will be absolved.
you're an idiot, windows xp is dead, especially for gamers as support for dx10 and 10.1
becomes standard and dx11 looms on the horizon.
you're like a kid stuck on his
mothers tit; too obsessed to see the delicious flavors of the world.
gamers will upgrade to whatever the boxes says to its just a cold fact only way to move
is foward and the winxp sp3 vista vs win7 deal dude win7 total blows all of it out of the
water crazy areos that help me move around common vist flip windows is just wrong honestly
dont know why it is in win7 because the superbar says it all one clik and im there want to
take a peak at a window on the bottom of the stack no problem its not hard to chose which
os is better but hay you want to be limited on your cluter desktop by all means stick with
xp and if you waiting for ms to fix vista with a sp keep waiting from the looks of it
vista is like me just a os between vista and win7 like me was between 2000 and xp laters
