Microsoft gets serious about Windows piracy

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversMicrosoft has been battling piracy since the beginning. But it seems as though they have finally had enough. In one of the more recent Windows Updates, Microsoft deployed what they feel is a step in the right direction for preventing the theft of their software.
Windows users with the pirated software installed on their computer will soon notice a black desktop, along with a permanent notice in the bottom right of their screen, stating that they must purchase a legitimate copy of Windows. While Microsoft is trying to get their message across as best they can, the company is still kind enough to allow all applications to run normally.
The new tactic has not gone unnoticed or without resistance. Multiple law suites have been filed claiming Microsoft is now the one doing the hacking, though to this date, no claims have been successful. Little time has been wasted, as users have already begun to find ways around the new feature. One way to circumvent this is as simple as shutting off the Windows Update feature to prevent the installation of the validation program.
Many are claiming it is because of the poor economy and high priced software that they are forced to make use of pirated goods. This may be true but they are not acceptable excuses. It is against the law to steal, ladies and gentlemen, and Windows is finally doing something about it.

wot's the update number? ne1 no?
i think m$ is greedy.
i think permanent stopping (blocking) os piracy is not in the interests of m$, because of
their popularity. people usualy pirate products they find usefull. and if it gets too
complicated - bye bye m$ and hallo open source :)
here in romania, medium wage is about $500 so why i need to spent $200-300 to buy windows
? m$ left me only 2 options:
- to use pirated products, or
- switch to
open source
i think a $50 - 75 will be a good price...
c'mmon m$..you make tons of money.just be positive-absorb the piracy under your
advertisement cost.
if ms would to charge a responsible price for it's os more ppl would buy. the price for,
well not so good vista is insane.
i use windows because i have no other choice.
yes, there's linux and mac, but i
won't be able to run my favorite software and games on it, also i'll get in trouble
because of incompatibility issues from the workfloor.
i won't even consider
purchasing windows because of it's insane price.
i am retired and on a benefit of £60.00 per week, how are people on low fixed incomes in
a position to to purchase 1 disc at the cost of 1 weeks benefit? a sensible price for any
operating system (basics) should start at £25-£30 . it is apparent that ms are only
interested in high profit and high targets but i am surprised it still dos, not sink in to
their heads that their marketing prices are more than individuals can afford to pay. if
sensible pricing was put into effect then ms would have very little problems with piracy
therefore this situation ms have brought on by themselves by their greed of high profit
from their operating systems.
bout time m$ has accepted the truth and and sounds like they are throwing in the towel.
lmfo. so can they detect bios modds?
50 billion isn't enough for me. i need more...more!! so what if you pathetic retired
louts can hardly get by on your piddling little checks. i run a monopoly here and i'll
charge whatever i want to for my stuff. you either pay up, or get the hell out - and
that's an order!
we will charge double the price for 7 and get away with
it...ha! we rule!! and no one will resist because 7 will have a few prettier icons and
will be well worth the cost. besides, all that spyware is gonna involve a helluva lotta
code-writing.
a bunch of us m$ biggies wanted to get our swimming pools lined
with platinum, and now you mf pirates have caused us to downgrade to solid gold.
goddammit!! this is a f'n outrage!!
we will crush you pirates by releasing
anti-piracy updates that will take three minutes to crack instead of the usual two. ha!
and if that don't work, we will roll your yards - every goddam one of 'em!
-thus spake zarathustra.
m$ is overpriced - ppl dont want to pay for things they will never use!
how
about just a basic m$ operating system at an affordable price, then you can choose to buy
the software you actually need or opt for the many free alternatives.
just give me a linux distro that runs all my games and i'll blow ms right out the
window. then no more checking every windows update for that validation sh1te.
just about every software company does try and protect its products. adobe has software
that is more expensive than ms's entire operating system! there are loads of billion
dollar companies around but doesn't mean they start giving away their products for free.
do you work for free?
it god damnit!
i downloaded sp2 update and now my legally purchased vista has the "evaluation copy"
tag in the lower right
ms office is way more expensive and it is way easier to crack it, wtf microsoft, use ur
head
vista sp2 is still in beta, wait for the final version and it won't have that.
so...crack 'em all!
it comes down to $ and personality. there are people that will pursue cracking it no
matter how cheap it is because it is a fun sport for them.
then there is the $.
and people like me would buy it (a first) if the price was something more doable.
instead of charging $120+ set the cost to $50. many would purchase it if it was around
$50 because that isn't too much to part with and worth the cost to prevent any hack
failure/tricks we need to do. for $120+ i'll try the crack and live with the risk
because i can admin it myself comfortably. but for $50, i'd go the easy legit route to
make my life easier.
it's like blu-ray. make it cheap and advertise the
crap out of it telling everyone they can't live without it. then you will get it in
every home in a legit way (versus my collection of 720p mkv files ...).
anything over $100.00 is too expensive... make it affordable, we wont pirate it.
you guys wanna crack my software? i'll come there and kick you.
linux distro's are free(some limited functionality - but still very usable). the
distro's you can buy - $30-$80 will give you full server function(how much is ms
win2008??), and many game will now run in "wine".
mac os x $80 - the hardware
may be still a tad pricey, but the running costs are way lower than any ms system. giving
an overall saving - in most cases
