Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system is still playing second fiddle to XP among business users, with more enterprises investigating the unreleased Windows 7 than its predecessor.

More than half (58 percent) of businesses using Microsoft technology are "exploiting" Windows XP, compared to just four percent for Vista, according to research by the Corporate IT Forum (Tif).

Tif also found that 35 percent of organizations described themselves as "not yet interested" in Vista.

The operating system (OS) that most people appear to be developing or piloting is XP, with 12 percent of businesses saying they were doing so, compared to five percent for Vista.

More businesses (30 percent) said they're currently investigating or analyzing Microsoft's next scheduled OS, Windows 7, than Vista (14 percent).

In contrast, seven percent of businesses said they're still exploiting Windows 2000, although 19 percent said they are currently replacing or "sunsetting" it.

In April, research revealed that Vista uptake among businesses had been slow during 2007, although a quarter of businesses said they planned to upgrade in 2008.

The main reason given by Tif members for not moving to Vista was a lack of business requirement for doing so.

Microsoft's latest browser, Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) is undergoing a similar struggle for adoption, with a fifth of respondents saying they're not yet interested in the newer version of the app.

Almost two-thirds of businesses surveyed (65 percent) said they are exploiting IE6, compared to four percent for IE7. However, 14 percent said they are currently piloting IE7, with the same proportion using it in isolation.

Almost a quarter (23 percent) said they are analyzing and investigating IE8, which is currently available in beta form.

your so wrong about vista and i know my pc stuff and vista is good at alot xp is not..i do like xp but it is out dated now and people years ago would not let go off 98...the only thing wrong that put every off is vista is a bit hardware hungry and you get people with old machines try to run it and slag it off cos they can not have it on there old machine. or if they know very little a op systems.

the ones who bitch have absolete hardware. honestly, as things progress forward, you really think that it still should support old hardware, give me a break. go and buy a new computer and shut up. stop running vista on an amd 1.6ghz. i built my computer 3 years ago, with minor upgraded and it runs vista 64-bit like a dream.

True fact - Bill Gates upgraded to XP

if all the vista 'devotees' posting here had to pay for that dogshit, their loyalty would evaporate in a heartbeat.

are there enough improvements for the majority of end-users to warrant paying that much money for it? yeah, that's what i thought. or maybe they actually did pay for it and just don't want to admit what chumps they were.

i run a 3.0ghz dc on a fast hdd with all the other trimmings, and i couldn't get that bloated pos off my machine fast enough. the ui alone was enough to make me puke.

herb and marge out there got this thing shoved down their throats, and that's who i really feel sorry for. who do you think most of the end-users are?

some 800 mb worth of drivers? good goddamn. and i just couldn't live without aero. i'd phuckin' commit suicide. you people are little 14-yr-olds who just gotta have the latest and greatest expensive video card. grow up. you just owned by ms - get those kocks out of your gay mouths for about 5 millliseconds and admit it.

get a lite copy of xp - which itself is bloated, but nothing compared to vista - and quit acting like gay fanboys.
