How to Downgrade from Windows Vista Business or Ultimate OEM Edition and Install Windows XP Professional
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 22.8.2008
A lot of users still don’t getting used to Windows Vista. A lot of reviews have been labeling Windows Vista as bloated, hard to use, tons of compatibility issues, inconvenient, not user friendly, not stable and etc.
Unfortunately, Windows XP has been phased out, and now most OEM desktop and notebook computer from brands such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Acer and other shipped and pre-factory installed with Windows Vista rather than Windows XP.
According to Microsoft:
OEM downgrade rights for desktop PC operating systems apply to Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate as stated in the License Terms. Please note, OEM downgrade versions of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate are limited to Windows XP Professional (including Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP x64 Edition). End users can use the following media for their downgrade: Volume Licensing media (provided the end user has a Volume Licensing agreement), retail (FPP), or system builder hologram CD (provided the software is acquired in accordance with the Microsoft OEM System Builder License). Use of the downgraded operating system is governed by the Windows Vista Business License Terms, and the end user cannot use both the downgrade operating system and Windows Vista. There are no downgrade rights granted for Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium.
For user who doesn’t want to pay any more payment to OEM brand vendor after paying a hefty price to buy the desktop PC, laptop or notebook computer that comes with Windows Vista Ultimate or Business edition, but want to downgrade to Windows XP, try the following trick to activate Windows XP for free yet legitimate genuine workaround.
1. Retrieve and record down the product key for the Windows Vista Business or Ultimate edition that is currently installed. There are various tools available for reveal the product key installed in Windows, or you can look at the OEM Certificate of Authenticity sticker pasted on the machine’s casing.
2. Find a valid legitimate Windows XP Professional setup CD media and install Windows XP on the system. User can use any valid, but not pirated copy of VL media, retail (FPP), or OEM CD such as those coming with old PC.
3. After installation, log onto Windows.
4. When asked to activate Windows (or go to “Start” -> “All Programs” -> “System Tools” -> “Activate Windows” or right click on “Computer” and click “Click here to activate Windows”), click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now to use automated phone system to activate Windows.
5. An Installation ID will be displayed on screen in Step 3, together with an option to select the location where user is nearest to in Step 1.
6. After selecting your country, toll and toll-free phone numbers to call to connect to Microsoft customer care is displayed. Dial to call the corresponding number.
7. Follow the automated voice recognition and response system to get to talk with a human customer care representative. The phone system will initially require Installation ID to be entered. Just input anything so that after a few failed attempt, user can talk to a human.
8. Tell the customer care representative that you would like to downgrade from Windows Vista to Windows XP. When asked, give the Windows Vista product key you have and the source of the Windows XP media used to install the machine.
9. After validation by Microsoft customer care, a Confirmation ID will be given, which should be entered into the Step 4 of “Activate Windows by Phone” wizard to activate Windows proper. If you wish, you can request for a new Windows XP product key too.source:

people who cant and wont use vista are big idiots, they still whine about ''my pc cant
run vista, vista is crap'' remember the days when you went from windows 98 to windows xp
(same story)
stop whining and get over it, vista is the future !
i recently posted to a different article that i had finally made the jump to vista. i
like vista mostly but it still has issues.
my first foray with rtm was a living
hell, nothing would work right, so after a week of trying i went back to xp. second foray
was with sp1, it was way better than the rtm version. but again after a week i had to go
back to xp. kept having problems with windows explorer crashing and i'm not alone i read
post after post on the web about people having the same problem. most were due to issues
with software that added to the right click context menu, but even after eliminating all
of my right click add ins i still had the same problem.
what's the point of
stepping up to vista when you can surf the web, but not you own computer. i'll wait for
sp2.
santa. get over yourself. this is nothing worse a vista retard like you....
vista's future is in trash can....
long live vista!!!
going from rtm to sp1 was a refreshing improvement. it's by no means perfect, but it's
actually usable for every day home computing! you have to accept the fact that it feels
different from using xp, and that's something that everyone who has been able to make
vista work for them has realized a long time ago.
vista just needs time to
evolve, but microsoft is scrambling to restore public interest by working on windows 7 so
much so that vista will never get the full spotlight.
but that's ok! bring on
some new windows soon!
yes i guess i must be such a idiot, because i cannot use vista.
if you want to use
vista for any serious computing , forget it.
if you want to use vista in a
specialized network, forget it.
vista is only good for chatting and making stupid
replys like this one.
vista runs great here and has done so since release day :)
vista is crap and it stay so you can say what you want.......
try using pc_doctor from ibm to totally wipe ur hd and remove evil xp. seriously, move
back to 2000 if ur gonna move to xp or else stay with vista. xp is nothing but a bad evil
operating system. o and make sure ur computer is capable running vista first and not 98.
i've had it up to my ears with people complaining about about "vista". if it does'nt
work on your pc, my guess is that person is to cheap to upgrade their hardware. yes it's
true i built a whole new system tailored to vista, but guess what? xp runs awefull on it,
while vista screams, no problems at all.
the problem is not with vista, it's with the people that cant use it. i have used vista
since it came out and have had no problems with it. those of you who are still clinging on
to xp, give up xp is on its way out and will soon be a thing of the past. long live vista
i have hitashi sata hdd and i don't the appropriate driver do you have a solution for me
to install windows xp
thank's alot
1) if you use a kvm with vista , ok start each pc when the pc is displayed on your screen
and wait for the boot cycle otherwise vista (forgets) the correct driver, no problem with
xp.
2) each network drive access with vista takes about 30 a 60 secs (with sp1), no
problem with xp.
3) good luck to try to format a external usb drive wich is
preformatted with fat32 to ntfs , with xp no problem.
4) dont remove the graphic card
from a mb and temporary install another graphic card, good luck reinstalling the driver of
the original card ,no problem with xp.
all this happend to me on more then one
installation, these where not freak occurences, all this with the latest installation of
vista.
no thanks, i stay with xp as long as microsoft dont release a bug free os.
what kvm problem mine works fine network drive access works fine for me ive got a usb
external drive which was fat32 and i use that on my laptop formated fine and ive had 4
different graphics cards in my main pc at home no problems i dont know what your doing but
you must be doing something wrong thats all i can say works fine for me and ive never had
a problem with explorer either with all those right click applications either and ive
converted all my friends to vista as well and none of them have had those problems either
