A Circuit City page which lists the new Xbox 360 60GB model states the following.

"Upscaling DVD Player: With an HDMI cable (sold separately), watch your favorite DVDs in near high-definition using the upscaling capabilities of Xbox 360." They have slapped an August 8th release on the new box.

already can

i think the existing 360 already can upscale dvds.

Sort of?

i think it can, sort of. i think if you play a regular dvd in the hddvd addon drive, it upscales. if you play one in the normal drive, it doesn't.
what they do need to do is make the drive dvd region free.

Upscale OK for me

Xbox Elite

only the xbox elite and the hdmi premium versions can upscale dvd to near hd quality.

blue ray anyone

why not add a blue ray player in the console so maybe their sales can go higher.

Every 360 can upscale DVD's

By Jean on 22.07.2008 - 23:07
every sku of te xbox 360 can upscale dvd's to hd, even the oldest ones. for the older versions you need a vga cable for it to work and for the newer versions with hdmi ports you can use either a vga cable or the hdmi cable. it just won't work with composite/component or scart cables and these are the cables most sku's are provided with.

And it works with the regular drive as well

By Jean on 22.07.2008 - 23:07
no need for the hd-dvd drive add-on. though it is a lot more silent than the built-in drive.

reality bites

how upscale can you get when you watch a movie sitting next to your 200 pounds spouse?
