The Redmond giant sent Windows Fiji RTM emails to the select pool of customers who helped nudge the product forward through development milestones. Fiji has been from the get go to the finish line a product developed under wraps at Microsoft, with little or no word of it released to the general public. Now, Windows Fiji is finalized and the gold bits ended up being labeled Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008.
"Fiji, officially known as Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008, has Released! The input from Self Host testers has been invaluable to this product and the team would like to thank each of you for your bug reports and feedback. As the release team is taking a much needed break, our next focus will be to post the final build onto the Products servers. Please check the newsgroups for updates. Once the build is live, we will notify you," reads an email from the Windows Media Center team as cited by XPMediaCentre.
Microsoft plans to make available Windows Fiji/Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 as an update to the default Windows Media Center components shipped with the Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate editions. The Redmond company has already started to include information about the new release of Windows Media Center in Knowledge Base articles. One illustrative example is KB955485 in which Microsoft states: "The Windows Media Center TV Pack was released on July 16, 2008."
"To check whether your computer has the Windows Media Center TV Pack installed, follow these steps:1. Start Windows Media Center. 2. In the Start window, scroll to Tasks, click Settings, and then click General. 3. Click About Windows Media Center, and then click Software Version. If the version is 6.1.1000.18273, you are running the Windows Media Center TV Pack. If the version number is 6.0.6001.18000, you are not running the Windows Media Center TV Pack. You are running the version of Windows Media Center that is included in Windows Vista or in Windows Vista SP1," the company added.

where do we download the update ?
please do post the links!!!
you numbnuts need to google or learn to read some articles.
it's only going to be
available as part of new oem packages (i.e. no update...microcrap haven't confirmed if
you can/ or they will provide this as an update yet.
its an installer, numbnut
i've been hearing about this but wtf is it? i've got qam cable card and an analog, love
to give it a go. give it to some end power users/it types already.
basically, the tv pack will add the following new features (to us markets only):
native unencrypted qam support (you no longer need dcts to get basic cable in media
center)
native support for up to four dcts (vista ultimate versions only)
ability to watch non copy protected recorded tv on other pcs (that have to have the tv
feature pack installed though) and the ability to burn tv to dvds (although this feature
requires an update to the dct which is not yet released)
and the icing on the cake
is that it is only available with new oem p.c's.
so unless you're in the market for
a new machine, forget about it.
so all we need is an oem disk with it built in? no prob for people here, slic bios...
is there also a version available for vista 64bit to download ?
i think media centre is pointless, i know countless people who have it and just end up
using their tv anyway for convenience
so with their tv's, they can:
schedule recordings
do one click
recording
recording multiple things at once
watch dvd's
watch ripped
dvd's
watch download movies
play music files
display photo galleries
get latest weather info
burn audio/video to cd/dvd
have extenders to do most
functions of media centre on other tv.
stream audio/video
etc
etc
i think not.
