Rant Collumn for Bill Gates

section: microsoft, for your questions: KezNews forum, 3.7.2008

Jim Lynch from ExtremeTech wrote a rant collumn about Bill Gates leaving Microsoft, here are some parts.

They say it's not nice to kick a guy when he's down but how about kicking him when he's retiring? Seems to me that that's fair game. In case you haven't noticed there's been a lot of media coverage about Bill Gates retiring from Microsoft and quite a lot of it has been more than a little fawning. Well it's time to set aside the fanboy accolades and cut to the truth about Bill Gates. Bill Gates' reign at the top of tech plunged the computing world into a new dark age that only the Internet, Apple, Google, and Linux have begun to liberate us from.

Gates' operating system products were second-rate copies of more elegant, stable, and technologically superior products such as Mac OS, Linux, and Unix. Gates' retirement will be remembered as the beginning of the end for Microsoft.

And it's not coming a moment too soon. So much damage has been done by Gates and Microsoft that it will take the computing world years to finally escape their grasp.

It seems that some writers have been bamboozled by Gates' "charitable" foundation and have decided to give him a free pass for his past sins.

Well that's certainly not going to happen in this column. Gates' predatory behavior, sheer ruthlessness and willingness to leverage his office and desktop OS monopolies to destroy his competitors has to be noted in any assessment of his career. He made the choice to behave that way for his own financial gain and for the accumulation of power and market share for his company.

Remember everybody, Bill Gates is who you all have to thank for Windows and all the misery and unhappiness it has brought to your lives.

Freedom to Innovate

By RadarSadie on 04.07.2008 - 10:07
lol - remember that one, during the trial? m$ has never innovated anything. they bought dos, nt was an os/2 offshoot, office was copied from other more reliable products and the gui was stolen from apple. yeah, gates loved the mac and asked jobs for a sample to write software for it. then he reverse engineered it and stole it! bill gates, my hero. oh wait! there was one project that was 100% gates - microsoft bob. gates belongs in jail, not on a throne. everything they have, except ms bob, was stolen, bought or copied. i haven't paid for a ms software product ever, and i never will. hey, i'll either steal it or copy it!

everyone need and uses windows

windows has standardised the pc industry. microsoft has also made it possible for smaller companies to make money in software because of the standard platform.

i like windows, thanks bill

Don't blame Microsoft

By Simo on 04.07.2008 - 18:07
you can't blame ms entirely for its success in the software world. the people buying the products did that for them.

"nt was an os/2 offshoot, office was copied from other more reliable products and the gui was stolen from apple" hahahaha - where do you get this stuff? windows was developed concurrently with os/2 (most people don't know that ms was *very* involved with os/2 development in cooperation with ibm). as well, all guis were copied from xerox park place (a research lab that setup the first network and the first gui) - both apple and ms have explicitly admitted this. apple has "taken inspiration" from ms as much as ms has taken from apple...believe what you want. do you even have a clue as to why bill gates had ms develop bob? bob was a terrible product, but understanding the impetus behind it explains a lot. ***i haven't paid for a ms software product ever, and i never will. hey, i'll either steal it or copy it*** so what you're saying is that you're a thief and basically the same thing you accuse gates of being, but because he did it first, he's bad and you're not? gimme a break - preschool reasoning should be left in preschool. you're a thief. talk about the pot calling the kettle black. i'm not an ms fanboy by any stretch (and i like apple even less - used both companies os since their inceptions - apple dos was superior to pc dos - windows and macos have their pluses and minuses, but i still prefer windows by a large margin). there are plenty of legitimate reasons to not like (or even hate) ms and bill gates, but do yourself and everyone else a favor - make sure you know what you're talking about and that your stories have some element of fact behind them before you start spewing your opinion as absolute fact.

i know exactly what i am talking about. i'm just sick of gates whining and complaining about folks stealing windows when stealing and pirating is exactly what made him. you may want to look into your knowledge of computer history. gates reverse engineered the gui interface from the mac, rather than develop it on his own. oh, internet explorer? remember a browser called mosaic? yup, they bought it. ms has never innovated anything except ms bob. hey, i have no problem with that - let someone else innovate than ms buys it (or steals it or copies it). just don't say you need to the freedom to innovate when you don't innovate. it's his bs lies that bugs everyone. so bite me!

On another note
