Exclusive Content for the Xbox GTA Is Microsofts Last Stand

As last week saw the release of GTA IV and this week saw the event titled PlayStation Day Europe, there was bound to be some commentary from Sony related to the game that Microsoft pinned its hopes for the Xbox 360 on.

And David Revees, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, was more than happy to provide some comment.

Talking to VideoGamer about the announcements made by Microsoft in very visible forms in all GTA IV commercials that the Xbox 360 version of the game is going to have exclusive downloadable content as early as fall 2008 while the PS3 will not, Reeves stated, "Well I think you probably will see [content also on the PS3]. It's just that a deal obviously was struck between Microsoft and Take Two to do that, and if that's what they want to do, I think that's the last shot they have".

The rumors are circulating that the Xbox has already been tagged by Rockstar for not one, but two exclusive DLC packs, one of which might even feature and entire new city (it’s unknown whether the new city comes with a new story or not). It seems Microsoft offered Rockstar a deal of about 50 million dollars for this content. Meanwhile, no such plans have been announced regarding the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

Revees’ declaration doesn't really clear up the confusion. It seems that DLC (the same as for the Xbox 360 version, but delayed different DLC altogether) could make its way to the Sony gaming console, but the Sony people themselves don't seem to have all the information they need.

The significant portion of the declaration is the second half, which seems to suggest that the exclusivity deal between Rockstar and Microsoft is a sign that the Xbox needs all the help it can get in continuing the "console war" against the PS3 which it seems to be losing. So, dear readers, whom do you favor and why?

Same old PR

that is the same old bs coming from sony... whereas the x360 version of gta outsold the ps3 version which is normal due to the larger installed base of x360, sony would like us to think that ps3 is somehow catching up to the x360 and a deal made quite a few months before is an act of desperation. well what can i say? i just feel that at all times actions speak louder than words

Also...

however a statement like that coming from a sony executive is totally expectable. that does not make it sound less stupid. also there is no choice to be made. consideration of the pros and cons of a system is totally subjective. you like a nice cheap blu-ray player? you are prepared to wait for the exclusives to come out?(there will be some great games for the ps3 but patience is needed!) then buy a ps3. you want to play some great games and as there seems to be a confirmation of blurays coming to x360, wait for bd-rom hd content or rent them on live? buy a x360! its that simple. also i believe the sole purpose of this article is to stir sh** up again.

ps3 vs 360

By psycho on 10.05.2008 - 20:05
i have both machines no problems pick the cream why choose one machine and limit your choice why allow ms and sony dictate you have to choose both machines are afordable in comparison to a pc or laptop and no doubt you all have several of those at least most of the people using keznews seem to have.its simple which ever game get the best review on whatever console i get that one gta iv is better on ps3 i have both versions so i can give an inormed opinion i have no bias no axe to grind. stop promoting the console just because its the one you chose to buy how can anyone comment on a console thay dont own in a true market place choice is king not what ms or sony tell you to buy

A few points

in what way is the ps3 version of gta4 better? more often than not the 360 version of a game is visually superior to the ps3 version. whether this means the ps3 doesn't have the graphical horsepower of the 360 or the programmers haven't worked out the ps3 fully remains to be seen. if gta is better on the ps3 then so far it is one of the very few that is.

waiting for PC version

i don't see consoles being more affordable then pc hardware, i put my money into my pc and cant see myself wasting money on a xbox (proprietary pc) and there is no other way to play fps games then with a keyboard/mouse stupid game pads have loss of control, try aiming and shooting with a thumb stick lame! its too bad about the console wars
lets step outside the box for once?
example1 wifi adapter for pc $20 wifi adapter for xbox $100! pc adapter 54+mbps, xbox adapter 11mbps! where is the logic here? you are paying more for less quality and the game pads are usb!
i should come out with my own console..
take some e-machine and put a nice wrapper on it! oh look an xbox!
