Microsoft Personal Folders Backup (PST)

section: download, for your questions: KezNews forum, 8.5.2008

The Personal Folders Backup download creates backup copies of your .PST files at regular intervals, in Outlook 2002 and later versions, making it easy to keep all of your Outlook folders safely backed up.

This tool is not new (october 2003) but it is republished to state that it also works on Outlook 2007.

Backing up your Microsoft Outlook information is quicker and easier with the Personal Folders Backup feature. Personal Folders Backup creates backup copies of your .PST files at regular intervals, in Outlook 2002 and later versions, making it easy to keep all of your Outlook folders safely backed up.

With Personal Folders Backup, you can choose which of your .PST files you wish to back up, and how often you wish to back them up.

Each .PST file contains all of your Outlook folders, including the Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts. You can have a single .PST file (usually called "Internet Folders" or "Personal Folders" in your Folder List), but you might also have an additional .PST file that you use for archiving ("Archiving Folders"). Personal Folders Backup lets you back up any or all of these .PST files.

Note: Personal Folders Backup only backs up .PST files. If you have a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, your server mailbox folders are likely backed up regularly by your server administrator. For additional details and assistance refer to Using the Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup tool.

hasn't it ever occurred to anyone that one way to ensure that your pst file is always easily accessible and always gets backed up along with the rest of your files is to move it's default location to a subfolder of (my) documents? you can do so in the mail window in control panel.

who needs these crappy little utilities?

How about the Rules?

By Edison on 09.05.2008 - 04:05
i use syncbackse t to backup all data on my hard drive. the one thing that never works righ after a fresh install are the rules. i have to recreate all 400+ of them. they don't import correctly.

another partition !

By nollie on 09.05.2008 - 19:05
just store your .pst at another partition (d or e) en make ik default in your outlook settings. it will store all your changes automatically in that file.
when you have to make a clean install its all very well stored. keep it never at your c-partition !

MS and it's PST

By Hard Giant on 10.05.2008 - 20:05
ms hides the pst file away deep inside the users settings directory. it's like they don't ever want it to be found. as others have said, place it somewhere other than the default location for easy access and backup.
