XP SP3 Sacrificed on the Altar of Vista SP1
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 23.4.2008
If there was any doubt in your mind as to Microsoft's
priorities regarding its two Windows client available concomitantly, Windows Vista and Windows XP, the race to bring the service packs for the two operating systems to the finish line[ADMAR=1] should offer some indications as to the company's strategy
Although both Vista SP1 and XP SP3 debuted into beta stages almost simultaneously in mid-2008, and went through development milestones at the same pace, Vista Service Pack 1 was finalized almost two months ahead of XP Service Pack 3. Additionally, the releasing to manufacturing of XP SP3 delivered further proof that the main focus is on Vista.
With XP SP3 having RTM'd on April 21, 2008, Chris Keroack, Windows XP SP3 release manager revealed that the service pack will be delivered through Windows Update and the Download Center on April 29, days ahead of the launch date for the Microsoft Developer Network and TechNet subscribers.
"To meet high customer demand for Windows Vista Service Pack 1, we have optimized available bandwidth and prioritized MSDN/TechNet delivery channels for Windows Vista SP1 downloads in all Windows languages. Once we have satisfied this demand, we will roll out Windows XP SP3 via MSDN/TechNet," a Microsoft spokesperson said to CRN.
It is useless to say that MSDN and TechNet subscribers were less happy with the Redmond company's decision to make them wait until May 2, according to the leaked timetable for the delivery of XP SP3 (via Nick MacKechnie, Senior Technical Account Manager at Microsoft New Zealand). The pressure from MSDN and TechNet members contributed to changing Microsoft's mind, and as a direct consequence Windows XP SP3 became available for download. But only thought MSDN and TechNet, and only when customer demand for XP SP3 proved to overtake that for Vista SP1.

if ms is serious about the quality and usability of vista, say why not challenge the
users by releasing the xp code to the public and let them continue developing the outdated
os. ha! alas this will never happen because ms knows how others can modify the codes and
improve its usability, its appeal, its speed, and everything else xp-wise which will
result in a completely sorry-looking vista.
i'm i wrong?
vista is microsofts cashcow period. there is no real performance. any program vista can
run xp can run better, faster and more efficiently. its all mac eye candy. i dont need it.
microsoft cann kiss my ass before ill ever install vista again. i swear ill use xp 4ever.
if windows 7 s.ucks too then its open source reactos should be ready by then. its a
windows like platform. then there is always linux.

enjoy!
kiss my ass microsoft.
reactos® is an advanced free open source operating
system providing a ground-up implementation of a microsoft windows® xp compatible
operating system. reactos aims to achieve complete binary compatibility with both
applications and device drivers meant for nt and xp operating systems, by using a similar
architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface.

blah blah microsoft "bash bash" blah blah xp pwns blah blah vista is the devil blah
blah.....open source is woot blah blah.
typical, this sites turned into a
microsoft bashing ground. get a life ffs
yes i enjoy licking guys balls..
if vista is not xp i personally will take my xp ball and go home.
p.s
boo hoo i can't run my 4 gig of ram on the god os! microsoft fix this now!
xp is old !
doesn't matter if it's made by microsoft or not, the memory the 32-bit os is limited to
includes both physical and virtual memory, which must add up to no more than 4 gigs. to
make a long story short, less than 4 gigs of ram will only be used (and usually
acknowledged by the os, ie. vista rtm) than what has been installed in the system. you can
hope to get maybe 3.5 gigs out of having 4 gigs of ram modules installed in a system.
that's why on my system, which shipped with 2 gigs of ram, i only upgraded to 3
gigs knowing that i'd waste half the cost of another 2-gig module cuz only half of it
would be used by the os. for the record, 32-bit vista glides on 3 gigs of ram like a hot
blade on thick ice haha. i wish i could migrate to 64-bit vista if not for the software
incompatibility headaches.
i think microsoft's decision as to which os (vista vs xp) to be more focus in their
marketing should be really obvious. xp to them is an old os that's not making more
process in money making anymore. it just hit the saturated curve flat. they spent a sum
on vista and already planned and set a side the budget for it for the next few years. i
don't see why they will not focus on vista and go back to something they basically
stopped making money efficiently. beside, they need vista to sell in order to gain
revenue to cover the cost of making it. it is not too hard to understand at all.
read a comment about releasing code open source for xp? hahaha. dream on. will
never happen. not within the next 20 years.
well. just to clarify that i am not a supporter nor hate either os. because i have
basically all 4 operating systems running at home. vista, xp, mac os x, and linux. my
dominate machine is xp (3 systems) and mac os x (2 systems) for work. out of them all, i
don't like linux the most. because the driver collection is the less than satisfy in the
bunch. i think that's one most important thing. i spent ****ing hours just to set up my
wireless network. well, i still having it running at one of my machine. i am not going
to format it because of all those hard work i put in to set it up. hahaha. but rarely use.
oh. talking about linux make me off track.
my double post just want
to say. hahaha. whatever what microsoft did, people will always have a saying of any
negative things. i even got tired of reading comment on what people think about whatever
product. i just try it out myself and decide if it work for me or not.
there's no point of reading anyone's comment, just try it out yourself. (that includes
my comment) hahaha
trying things out, that's all fine when you got time and money. because most of us, are
limited by our time, and therefore is why we pay to get solutions, not more beta testing
products, or having to tinker around like hobbyist.
the problem today was
created by a monopoly called microsoft using closed source code, so that makes it
impossible for anyone else without the soruce code to build upon and actually improve this
huge big mess...
hopefully, some group with provide us all with a much better
solution, that being open source code, if just more would not support vaporware from
microsoft and the sort...
