Windows 7 chatter having a significant negative effect on Vista
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 9.4.2008
Yesterday I asked for a show of hands to find out whether chatter about the next version of Windows is putting off Hardware 2.0 from deploying Vista. The results are very interesting indeed.
I posted three polls. So far, each poll has received between 2,300 and 2,700 votes. Let’s take a look at the results so far.
Here we have a clear and unambiguous result. 80% of Hardware 2.0 readers who haven’t deployed Vista seem happy to skip Vista and wait for Windows 7 to make an appearance.
On the face of it that doesn’t seem like good news for Microsoft, but in the longer term it’s actually not really that dire. While it’s perfectly possible to skip one Windows version, skipping two isn’t so easy and individuals and companies alike will have to either start to seriously think about upgrading or migrating to a different OS - and for most upgrading is going to be less hassle than migrating.
Interesting. While 51% would be happy to stick with XP SP2 until 2010, 34% are eagerly awaiting SP3. SP3 could give XP a newfound lease of life and be a further reason for some to give Vista a miss.
This is interesting. A full 45% of voters are giving Vista a miss based on the word of others. While I expected this figure to be pretty high (I wouldn’t expect everyone considering Vista to take the time to test it out), I’m staggered by it being this high. It seems that bad press about Windows Vista really is putting off people from migrating.

i welcome our yahoo overlaords and say to hell with windows 7.
lol! well, considering vista is so bloated and overdone, i think people are expecting
windows 7 to fix the bloat. or maybe they're praying it will... or dreaming and hoping??
i think vista is ok the way it is... and which windows 7 is based off of vista, windows 7
will to be bloated. i'm sure microsoft is going to keep most of vista features and
include more nonsense... in 7, thats what i think..
as long as microsoft knows there are people ready to pays for win o/s, they will keep
making newer version to get more money, all these are simple business, as they ruling the
market
you say "people ready to pay", we have to. we have no choice. some will now say, use
linux. right. that's like saying, "drive on the other side of the road". only works if
all the other nutz are doing it as well. 99% don't. so we are stuck with win(whaterver)
and have to use whatever they rape us with next. and if we don't, they will come with the
ms police and toss you in jail. ugg. it will be fun to see if there are 5 versions of win7
or if they get a clue and only go with 2 again!
after giving vista a 15 months run, i finally gave up yesterday and returned to xp. now
my pc starts twice as fast and runs much smoother. on top of that, i can now fully use my
hp printer, see the ink level in software, use my bt dongle, my hardware mpeg encoder, my
canon scanner and a lot of other stuff. yes, i miss some of the added functionality in
vista, like the folder shortcuts you can create in explorer, but so be it...
dear bill,
i know you put a lot of time and money into vista. however, the
majority of it people refuse to adopt it. the gui is not as intuitive as it could be,
plus, it seems to be bloated like a fat pig, as it consumes almost three times the memory
and cpu to do the same exact tasks my beloved xp pro currently does. honestly, i gave
vista a fair play, tried it for over a year on my brand new quad core cpu, but i gave up
and went back to xp. please, please streamline windows 7, work on the gui, lets not have 6
different versions? ok? no more than 2, 1 would be marvelous and less confusing.
i see dumb people on this site, only those who really know how to run a pc, have no
issues with vista
6% are craps
ain't see other sale reports for mac, linux, etc...
what ever sale is i.e xp,
vista, 7, they're all microsoft windows
now that what you call a real damn noob that does not get laid often or perhaps never.
vista is a peace of crap and microsoft knows it. they build for dumbass noobs like you
that love little purty interface that eat memory and make you spend more money on hardware
instead getting a woman to get laid with. bill gates got you by the balls noob and you are
a living proof of it by posting a real dumbass post you did.
may god have mercy on
you..no no scratch that off...may a woman have pity on you to give you some s.e.x.
amen!

i see dumb
people on this site, only those who really know how to run a pc, have no issues with vista
yes we cant choice, if i want to buy a new laptop i must use (bad)vista...
dude i bought a laptop at best buy with vista home. it was horribly slow with a duo
processor 3.0 ghz. shouldve been lightening fast. formatted the bitch and put xp pro on.
now it flys!
buy any new laptop and the first thing you gotta do is wipe it of all the oem shit it
comes with. anyone who knows about computers knows that. its the same with any oem machine
you buy. you gotta format em and put fresh clean vista on. that anit a microsoft issue
that cos people wanna buy cheap shit with lots of unnessasary software hogging the system.
learn hoew to put your pc together properly with clean install and with the right hardware
vista will fly..
welcome to the future....
and as for you negative, why dont you go back to windows 3.1 it sounds like its just
right for you, it will fly mate and it dont look too fancy just like your women...
welcome to your a f-ucking idiot.
thanks for that yomama
really useful.maybe i am
but i got a vista that works
relly well
unlike it seems most of the other idiots posting.
i've heard nothing but moronic comments from a bunch of ignoramus jackasses here. if
your knowledge in computing is minute, then shut up. so xp makes you happy..so what. it
took ten years to get to that point. vista has been around a 10th of that time. i've had
it for that whole duration and today i can honestly say all the updates and sp so far has
been very useful. my systems rocks with vista sp1..no bsd, no virus, nothing bad at all.
compatibility issues? none. update your outdated and antiquated system so you won't have
issues. for those bandwagons of win7..you've got to be kidding me. ms loves idiots like
you who craves more and more of their stuff.
if you are a noob who likes there pc slower than it can be. sure you think it fly's. put
xp on the same pc and see what flys is all about. you dumbass noobies always follow the
big orporatiosn. those in the know...know vista sucks!
i hope windows 7 fixes the suky direction microcrap is going but i have a feeling it will
be more of the same old same. come on someone save us from this hell! get bill layed!
wow..you spelled it right. read what you wrote you moron, who's the dummy now. you
don't know squat so shut up. go to school and learn something intelligent..otherwise
shut up.
you know why? cuz hardware will be so cheap that a top of the line system right now will
be standard fare when win7 comes along. i can't see win7 being anything more than vista
second edition anyway.
the other brain dead comment i've read on keznews
article comments is "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". that's the dumbest thing to
ever say about xp! it's been broken from the very beginning and it's not a question of
how many updates it took to get it to be stable, it's the fact that it needed all those
updates to begin with! at least microsoft learned something about security from xp that
they included in vista.
i'm willing to bet that, by the time vista is as old
as xp is now (if win7 or win8 don't overshadow it by then), vista will have needed less
than half the updates to make it as solid.
nige is right about the trial
software crap that oem's shove onto hard drives. that's not something you can blame
microsoft for cuz it's a deal the oem makes with the software manufacturers for useless
crap like "60 days of norton av" or whatever.
enjoy the rape said: "you say
"people ready to pay", we have to. we have no choice. some will now say, use linux.
right. that's like saying, "drive on the other side of the road". only works if all the
other nutz are doing it as well. 99% don't. so we are stuck with win(whaterver) and have
to use whatever they rape us with next."
that is absolutely right! and the
reason why microsoft is pulling the plug on xp sales on june 30th. do you think they'd
give up on vista so easily? most private license holders will wake up on july 1st to a new
windows era, like it or not. we've all relented to loving xp so microsoft knows we'll
all learn to love vista. cue our collective shudder.
