Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversMicrosoft Corp. said Thursday it will keep selling a version of Windows XP for use on a new breed of low-cost computers for at least two years longer than the older operating system will be available on mainstream PCs.
The software maker said Windows XP Home will be available through June 2010, or for a year beyond the release of the next version of Windows, for computers like Intel Corp.'s Classmate PC and ASUSTek Computer Inc.'s Eee PC. Those machines have smaller hard drives, less memory and slower processors than most Windows computers sold today, and most would have a hard time running the bulkier Windows Vista.
Microsoft had planned to stop selling most versions of XP at the end of June 2008, with exceptions for small computer-building shops and PCs sold in developing countries. But surprising demand in developed countries for what it calls ultra-low-cost personal computers prompted Redmond-based Microsoft to extend that deadline.

vista: the basstard stepchild of os s.
microsoft knows if they do not keep xp alive
more people will migrate to linux and apple because vista is another me2, a complete
failure in terms of reliability, speed, upgradability. vista is not a worthy succesor in
any sense of the word.
yes xp is good os, but it took many year to get where it is...
when xp was
first released, we had the very same type of people bashing xp. just like what jj is
doing now with vista.
i remember when xp was first launched and do, not perfect, it had far less bugs then
vista now, a year after release with sp1 included, sorry.
i can myself mention at
least 3 problems with vista sp1 going from annoying to simply ridiculous, and please dont
mention i know nothing of computers or need to buy a new pc.
most bugs are device drivers issues, that is down to the third party vendors to fix, not
micosoft...
i hardly had any problems with vista and my pc is rather old..
win vista is nothing like me.
yes i have used them both and me is like they have a
virus installed as part of the os!
like the guys said before xp when first released,
was, in my opinion, much worse than vista. back at 2001 before xp sp1, i would get
"internet explorer has encountered we are sorry for the incovinience bla bla bla".
vista may be bloated, i accept that, may have quite a few bugs/glitches, but in terms
of stability and security i think is by far the best job micro-bitch has done.
i own my pc biz. when customers call i usually ask them waht os they run. im always
hoping for somthing other than vista. when i treat vistas its like touching a timebomb
with new exclamation windows popping up..so disapointing. u can just feel how unstable it
is. shit...i'd rather run 2k or me .....than vista.
vista is the best. never xp again.
vista is an ok os if u want the eye candy and got the hardware for it.
if u dont
care for eye candy and want just performance (and fast network/usb copying) i would still
go for xp. and if you'ree on a domain, stay the fudge away from vista, its one sloooooow
moving vehicle with domain on board.
