Vista hacked on 3rd day thru Adobe Flash. Linux Undefeated.
section: common, for your questions: KezNews forum, 30.3.2008
After Mac was hacked in 2 minutes at the CanSecWest Conference, it was now the time for Vista to get hacked on the 3rd day.
Vista's security was compromised through the popular 3rd party software, Adobe Flash.
"The contest, which saw a MacBook Air get hacked on Thursday, relaxed the rules even further. On the first day of the contest, only the operating system could be targeted, but on the second day that was expanded to include standard applications. An undisclosed Safari flaw led to the MacBook Air's downfall through the OS X operating system."
The MacBook Air went first; a Fujitsu laptop running Vista was hacked on the last day of the contest; but it was Linux, running on a Sony Vaio, that remained undefeated as conference organizers ended a three-way computer hacking challenge Friday at the CanSecWest conference.

i hate it when people think macs are so much better security wise. macs have so many
holes. they just don't have a lot of viruses because it has like 4% market share so why
develop a virus for macs. i hope macs get owned.
just another reason to switch to linux
mandriva rules!!!!!!
and i dont want to
hear any crap from all you out there that always comes up with the typical answer "the
reason linux is safer is because no hackers feel the need to hack it" or the old one
"yeah it is because linux only holds 1% of the market share and no one uses it" blah
blah blah
get a grip folks linux is the future not microsoft or apple.
linuz is not necessarily the future, it is just the most popular of the freeware os's.
just because linux/mac/windows are the leading 3 doesn't mean that will be the outcome in
the future. especially since none of them have the capabilities that will be needed in the
future. so any new os could eventually dominate the market.
also i think that who
ever was hacking the linux was pretty sad, its freaking open source software. nothing is
ever at lock down.
so why was this my hack my fault? friggen adobe shit - still i believe that their
programmers are worse than ours!
"...an undisclosed safari flaw led to the macbook air's downfall through the os x
operating system..." that's apple's fault
"...vista's security was
compromised through the popular 3rd party software, adobe flash..." i think that's
adobe's fault, although ms had it share too
please, don't hate me, i know ms
is not perfect. i'm just saying that apple and adobe are not perfect as well.
problem solved by using ms-silverlight and forget about adobe-flash. vista is again the
safest os!!
i think towjam should get a life
linux might be a contender if there was one version that had full 3rd party support.
now......more versions than you can shake a stick at, and little hardware driver support.
forums are littered with thousands of people wanting to know how to get their network to
support their flavor of linux, how to do this, how to do that.
vista may not be
"best os ever made", but when i plug in a router...it works. when i install a program, i
just click a few "next"s, i don't have to search the web to find out how.
as far
as security..... if a car thief wanders into a parking lot, and sees a lincoln, and a
pinto side by side, which is he going to break into?
i don't expect any os to be
"hacker-proof"...thats silly. any code can be exploited. i keep my system safe with 3rd
party software, a little common sense, and good backup.
i don't think linux is going to sunddenly emerge as top. this definately shows that it
was built with security in mind and not "theres no viruses causes theres little market
share". i think that if everyone went behind ubuntu linux would be top very soon as it is
probably the ebst one but whats the point in that. the open source community likes choice.
windows 1 ruuuuuuuulees :d:d:d:d:d
i use both linux and windows on the desktop. there is really no contest.
it
depends who you are. if you require a computer to be an appliance, use expensive software,
and fight viruses and mal-ware... then windows is perfect. it is easy. tons of software.
and a true technology standard.
if you want to harness the power of an
operating system, learn the bits and bites of the computer, and feel like you have two
left shoes on... linux is great. it has a broad array of freely available applications.
many of them are unpredictable to use.
i enjoy linux. i use it for a time,
swear that it is a better way to compute, get all excited but then go back to windows.
when linux crashes (it happens just like it does in windows...) it takes a lot to fix it.
information is conflicting and hard to find. applications also have little support in many
cases. and most open source applications today are also available on windows.
so i cannot find one advantage of living the linux dream. and i have spent more time,
energy, and frustration trying to make linux work than a $65 cos license for windows xp or
vista home basic.
the point is ... one day linux will grow as a desktop
operating system, but i think that for the most part, even seeing how far it has come,
linux isn't worth the price. you get what you pay for.
amen to this guy.
vista was hacked thru flash, 3rd party software, vista was not hacked because it was
unsecure, it was hacked because other software that companies dev leave holes open, cant
blame microsoft for that one, then linux, what the hell are you supose to do, as if it had
flash installed, as a matter of fact, the linux distro was probably shit and there is no
software that you would beable to control the system the same way you could osx or vista,
so lets keep compairing apples to oranges just because they both grow on trees, its the
only logical thing to do, isnt it?
why would anyone want to hack in to some loosers pc that can't even afford a real os.
keep your freeware linux bs keep it real safe, the 2-3 people interested in hacking your
system are the only ones who give a shit !
with vista breached, linux remains unbeaten in hacking contest
linux running on a
sony vaio remained undefeated in a three-way computer hacking challenge that pitted mac os
vs. linux and vista. linux will do plenty if your smart enough to use it.
if someone wants to get in they can. theu all have holes, if you don't beleive that then
you also beleive suddam had wmd's and gwb was right
"then you also beleive suddam had wmd's and gwb was right"
ask the kurds if
he was right ashole ! oh thats right, there dead thanks to saddam.
vista is the best operating system out there. apple think they are cool and their
operating system is secure? what a joke? they make crappy software. vista is the best
even the pentagon server got hacked, let alone this three oses.
