Analyzing 3 months of Vista reliability data

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversA Windows Vista feature which I make use of regularly is the Reliability Monitor. While being far from an ideal metric for measuring reliability, it does offer users a simple way to tell if their system is behaving or misbehaving.
The other day I looked at the data I have collected for my main quad-core system and realized that I had just over three months of data collected since I wiped the system and upgraded to 64-bit Vista Ultimate. With that much data I thought that it would be interesting to take a closer look at this data and see what kind of issues my system has experienced over the past three months.
In case you’ve not come across the Reliability Monitor, here’s how you get to it:
* The quick way:
Click Start and type Perfmon into the Start Search box, and click the Perfmon shortcut when it appears. then click on Reliability Monitor.
* The long way:
Click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Performance Rating and Tools > Advanced Tools > Open Reliability and Performance Monitor > Reliability Monitor.
The Reliability Monitor gives you access to a lot of varied and useful information.
* A System Stability Chart which shows you a stability rating between 10 and 0 (the higher the number the better).
* The chart also shows if any of the following occurred on a particular day:
- Software (Un)Install
- Application Failures
- Hardware Failures
- Windows Failures
- Miscellaneous Failures
* There is also a system stability report for each day which gives a breakdown of each of the above categories for each day.
Here’s a breakdown of the failures that I encountered over the 133 days (note that multiple failures can occur during a single day):
* Application failures: 22 days (16.5%)
* Hardware failures: 0 days (0%)
* Windows Failures: 5 days (3.7%)
* Misc failures: 14 days (10.5%)
* Total failure days: 37 days (27.8%)

wow it is wow buy vista and have 27.8% of your computer the time fu_ked up, wow cant wait
to see win 7.
all it means is that there were this number of faults on that day or week blah blah blah.
it doesn't mean it crashes or freezes or anything. i remember using xp and getting a nice
blue screen at least 3-5 times a week. i have only had i blue screen in vista for a whole
year and that was because i installed a dodgy driver.
i have a near perfect score. this is just more windows vista fear mongering by people
that simply cannot let windows xp go.
this group of people are steadily
becoming a cult similar to the apple fanboys and scientologists.
ive been using vista for a two years now (beta tester)and it does rot. its slow even
after sp1. it crashes more now. its finicky about software let alone drivers. if you sit
and surf of course you dont get crashes bsod's. use it like its meant to be used and you
will see a different picture. transfer 20 gigs from one drive to another. run 3d max 9 for
a few hours along with two other 3d programs running at the same time.
then come post
your comments. playing a game or surfing isnt using your computer.
go buy a quad
core, 8 gigs of memory and run a real program. put your pc to work like it made to do.
then come blaa,blaa blaa to the forum you dont have a clue..............
thats wierd...i dont get it ...y r u ppl cussin vista...xp was at this same state in its
early dayz..and plus...i've neva had any sort of crashes on vista...except for the first
2 months of rtm release...and plus those were jus compatability probz...sp1 seemz pretty
fine on mine...runnin perfickly smooth !!
been running vista x64 for over a year without any problems. no blue screen, crashes or
what so ever...i'd had xp and many crashes and blue's. chalk one up for a vista fan
here.
