Lukewarm reaction to first IE8 beta
section: microsoft, for your questions: KezNews forum, 6.3.2008
Yesterday at the MIX '08 session, Microsoft employees Ray Ozzie, Dean Hachamovitch and a host of Microsoft partners touted the new Silverlight and IE8 betas to what could be seen (from my perspective) ..
.. as a lukewarm reception from the attending crowd, despite the non apparent excitement from the IT staff at Aston Martin showing off how they now are able to sell cars to potential buyers, and the Hard Rock Cafe before them, showing off their immense collection of celebrity memorabilia using the Silverlight technology; even if the latter preferred to use the Firefox browser in doing so!
Neowin members were among the first that were able to download Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1, because we had already posted the page where the download links were, but up until noon yesterday, remained inactive until the first MIX '08 keynote was drawing to a close.
One Neowin member said "I can’t even edit my own posts on this. I have to create a new post." while another noted "Is not bad, I like what I see by now... Live Hotmail doesn't work for me with IE8 but I can get it work with Emulate IE7 button". It does seem strange that Hotmail doesn't work in "IE8 mode", another Neowin member, Brandon Live, reminded beta users: "Remember, this release is targetted [sic] at web developers. There are a few other nice new user-facing features (crash recovery, and not having to open new windows for Protected Mode IE to be on/off for different tabs, etc), but this is far from the complete IE 8 experience". lots of problems with lots of sites....
1 word : crap
d/l it then wouldnt allow me to install as i have vista sp1...
why do they even bother releasing these beta versions when they know perfectly well they
aren't fit for release to the public.
works ok but i noticed a few lockups and system instability. nothing that caused a reboot
though. some welcome new features (even if they were taken from the fox)
some pages just won't show at all. have to click emulate ie7. as someone said, "why
do they even bother"
its not too bad most sites work for me. strngley uk.msn.com needs to be emulated in
ie7mode but webslices are good (when some sites have them)
the reason they release betas is to
a) allow developers to get hold of it to test
their sites before release
b) allow people to test and feedback issues.
the "general" public should never use betas just like no one should use a beta in a
production environment. test test test!
its a beta, its going to have problems,
if you installed it on a production (or personal) system expecting no problems your
stupid.
have ms made the same mistake with ie8 as with vista? listen to their crititcs and
produce what the users are not asking for?
vista - they improved security
because the critic industry moaned how insecure windows is..
ie8 they make
standard compliant because previously ie has disregarded standards...
perhaps
ms should just continue writing insecure, non standard software and maybe everyone will
shut up?!!!! :)
no real probs really, i actually like it unlike ie7. interesting how it opens in two
separate processes. maybe thats how it loads faster than ff.
was in ie7 too.
