Vista Update Fingers Activation Cracks
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 23.2.2008
Microsoft Corp. has been lowering expectations about Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) since before it even confirmed there would be one. Numerous times, company executives and managers have told users and the press that Vista SP1 would not be like Windows XP SP2, the last desktop operating system service pack the company released.
"This is not about adding new features," David Zipkin, a senior product manager for Windows Vista, told Computerworld last August, comparing SP1 to XP's SP2, which was as much a new operating system as an update.
Really? Could have fooled us.
We took a spin through the change log for SP1, which has been released to manufacturing but won't be available from Microsoft until next month, and found a slew of things new to Vista. Not new as in unknown -- although there are a few surprises -- but new as in not seen in the initial edition of Vista launched in January 2007.
A recounting of the new and/or changed in Vista is unnecessary, and repetitive of what Microsoft has done itself, so for the most part, we went after the most interesting modifications that had been promised at one time or another to see if Microsoft followed through.
We call them "semisecrets" only because it's easy to forget that Microsoft committed to doing one thing or changing another. Plus, it's alliterative.
Does SP1 kill the "kill switch"?
Microsoft has come through on the promise it made back in early December 2007, and backed off from the dire side effects of a validation failure or if the user neglects to activate in the first 30 days.
Rather than drop into what Microsoft called "reduced functionality mode" -- where the only thing that worked was the browser and then for only an hour at a time -- SP1 amps the nags to activate and slaps a black background on the desktop.
Machines that fail a Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation test -- as some thousands did last year when Microsoft's servers went on the blink -- will see the same black background, but they won't be nagged about the need to buy a license.
What anticrack patches does SP1 apply?
Although Microsoft dialed back on Vista's notorious "kill switch" -- what the company called "reduced functionality mode" -- it has also included two updates designed to block popular pirate hacks.
The first is a fix for what's dubbed the "OEM Bios exploit," a crack that modifies system files and the BIOS to mimic product activation done at the factory by computer manufacturers. The second, which goes by the name "Grace Timer exploit," monkeys with the activation grace period -- it's normally 30 days, but can be extended -- so that it doesn't end until the year 2099.

lol the vista loader emulator still works, just install vista, the vista loader and then
sp1, xd pwn3d
vista loader emulator still works great.
what's with the sudden approach at pirates?
microsoft, just admit that you cannot invalidate other people's computers, bios patching
is something microsoft can't do anything about it. microsoft is just gonna earn more
piracy work to do.
they can't actually "detect" if the crack is applied or not, but they can detect the
files the crack leaves behind. ( some of the cracks, leave traces in the setup/install
directory of vista, and such. )
if they find it, they can just force re-write
the mbr every time, therefore making vista boot first, and the bootsector crack will fail.
obvious problem with this is that many people genuinely multi-boot vista with
another operating system, doing this will put vista first in the boot order, and make some
other os's dissapear. ( not appropriate! )
yeah... vista loader works great... and maybe it and the others would still work if it
wasn't for you dumbasses making it known to everyone, including microsoft which cracks
work, and which ones don't.
come on people, shut the f**k up about which cracks
work, so microsoft doesn't block them too! idiots...
like they dont know...rofl
ur the idiot rob ;)
vista loader will be detected and blocked very soon, just wait for the windows update
from microsoft!
vista loader 2.2.0 works great!
for those of us who have sp1 & everything is working fine, couldn't you just disable
auto updates? this way you wont get the "new" wga and w/e else. *shrug*
did anyone care to think, that if microsoft tried to disable to vista loader crack, and
rewriting the mbr, it would end up f*ucking with people that have linux installations?
jaybiz you took the words out of my mouth :d
any body tell me how to get free activation key for xp home please let me no
which order to apply vista loader that works?
1. install vista + install
vistaloader + install sp1
2. install vista + install sp1 + install vistaloader
if only the first method works, that what happens when you install vista
directly from the integrated sp1 dvd (released by microsoft).
i have a couple valid xp home keys if you have something that is worth willing to trade
for it.
what's the difference between "oem bios exploit" and vistaloader ? i thouth they
where the same thing???
vista + crack + sp1
generically the same but not identical.
team paradox produced the so called oem
bios exploit. sp1 forced a "not activated" state on mine, as ms promised it would.
vistaloader is chinese in origin. it accepts sp1 and remains activated.
hi manu, only
a clean install is possible with vistaloader.[upgrade is grayed out].you don't apply the
crack afterwards like paradox. vista is installed with a provided number.the .rar file is
expanded to c:\ and a command file is activated from a command prompt. when complete, sp1
is applied.
using a soon to be released sp1-integrated dvd should work perfectly.
it doesnt matter even if m$ comes up with a solution bc we are always a step ahead of
them!
i dont know about you guys, but after reading some forums, im going to be disabling
anything that has to do with auto updates. there's a chance the check maybe silent, but
better safe than sorry. good luck!
this is very funny! install here, install there...crack him, crack there....and a full of
lag system! do as me, unistall vista and use ubuntu 7.10 or if you really can't...do a
favor to yourself and use winxp. vista is really a joke.

check this out what m$ has to say!
you all vista users, send it back to microsoft and get your money back!use the money on
something better.....
and i feel sorry for all you vista guinea-pigs... :(
all the ppl her who keep saying vista is so crap need to update their crappy pc's. if u
wernt running old and shit pentium 4's and 6600gt gfx cards you would be able to run
vista.. also if you had a knowledge on how to tweak an os even change the desktop
background you would know that services can be disabled which will increase performance..
so lesson today boys and girls is.. go upgrade and learn a thing or 2 about computers. you
may now close this window.. if you know how...
vista is an excellent operating system
xp pro is a good operating system
hardware is of utmost importance......
you know sometimes i wish microsoft would succeed in blocking so-called pirating of their
shit-ass os's. i really mean it. i wish they could thwart even 90% of cracking attempts.
because if this could happen, the result would be people would finally be
forced to move to superior free os's or have to live with the fact that they actually
took 100 bucks out of their pocket to use garbage!!!
alright, vista may look all nice and glossy, but beneath that shiny exterior lies code
that just doesn't hack up to winxp. don't take my word for it, just use that education
you've received and read up on it.

to have
uninformed people bash others for being seemingly uninformed is not only hypocritical, but
pointless. come on now, we aren't here to fight about which os is better. that is really
quite clear. instead, why don't we just give up that unwieldy ignorance, and actually try
to learn something informative for a change, rather than just crudely criticizing people
for their own personal preferences.
"all the ppl her who keep saying vista is
so crap need to update their crappy pc's" - hmm, its actually been proven that windows
xp runs faster given the same hardware capabilities as vista. come on now, get your
information straight before you start criticizing others.
"also if you had a
knowledge on how to tweak an os even change the desktop background you would know that
services can be disabled which will increase performance." - okay, so when you can tweak
multiple file transfers so that they copy at even comparable speeds to windows xp, let me
know. i'd be more than happy to hear your solution. oh, and believe me, i can change my
desktop background. i can also encode a separate operating system inside of it. i'd be
delighted to hear how you expect this knowledge to be used to tweak vista's performance,
to rates even comparable to xp.
"vista is an excellent operating system
xp pro is a good operating system" - that seems like more of an opinion to me, unless of
course you can find solid evidence to back that up. i'd hate to be swayed by your
ill-informed passion rather than some technical reasoning. next time, please provide some
evidence, and maybe you'll look a little less foolish.
"hardware is of
utmost importance......" - while hardware is essential, a stable operating system is also
quite important. even over-bloating your hardware won't keep you from safe from software
bugs. thus stable software seems to be just as essential as good hardware.
the performance tests, the personal preferences aside. every customer i have with xp
f...s up thier machine, every customer with vista can not!
and the real bottom
line.... how much longer will ms continue to update it.
someday people will be
having the same agruments about vista and whatever is next.... move on people
pan.. you are not correct when saying that xp users "f...s up thier machines & every
customer with vista can not!"
in most cases, the reason xp becomes screwed is
mainly because of malware that runs rampant on the web.
don't assume that xp
users do not know wtf their doing!
true, vista is more solid when it comes to
security but that does not change the fact that xp is 100% better when it comes to pc
resources and that's the bottom line.
as for activation, ms just brings it on
themselves as if they would just keep producing a solid preformance os and not charge
users to keep forking over 100+$ every 5+ years to re-obtain "preformance" and not bloat
as is the case with vista, then maybe the desire to hack/crack would become a thing of the
past but as you all know, it's best not to hold our breath's as microsofts bildo & co.
will never get it right just like our politicians are unable to accomplish !
