Microsoft Partners: Vista Campaign Was Deceptive
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 14.2.2008
Microsoft may soon be defending itself from a class action lawsuit over its 'Vista Capable' marketing campaign, and several of the vendor's channel partners aren't the least bit surprised.
Microsoft launched the Vista Capable campaign in order to keep PC sales strong after its decision to delay the release of Vista to consumers until after the 2006 holiday season. Consumers who bought a PC with the 'Vista Capable' sticker would get an XP machine and then later be eligible for a free or discounted upgrade to Vista.
What the campaign didn't specify was which of the four versions of Vista -- Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate -- a PC was capable of running. And according to solution providers, therein lies the rub.

vista was created at the behest of the entertainment industry with only one goal in mind:
to protect their so-called premium content, blu-ray and hd-dvd (hd-dvd now sleeps with
betamax lmfao!). vista has no reason to exist. drm should've stayed on the dvd, not my pc
to the extent of vista. microsoft could have said no to hollywood. how? becuase microsoft
has like 90% of the os market, they would have had to give in, but no! they wanted to get
greedy. this is why vista uses 10x the cpu and memory to do the same thing. this is truly
the tail wagging the dog.
took the words directly from my fingertips, cheers! :)
takes up a small percentage of the code and it's certainly not responsible for the
"10x" extra resources being used. the drm mechanism is a simple filter and scrambler. if
you're worried about it that much, just rip your dvd's with a program that strips the
drm off.
complaining about drm is pointless, you just want to bash vista any
way you can. ms introduced drm via their wma format in xp, but next to no one i know has
ever used that capability. mp3 is a popular format precisely because it is not set up for
drm metadata.
and it's not like your digicam adds drm to the jpegs you upload
which prevent them from being viewed in full resolution and clarity on your friends'
computers.
