More information on the Vista SP1 activation hack
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 12.2.2008
My post on the Vista SP1 activation hack has generated a lot of feedback (especially in the form of questions) from both individuals and other media outlets.
I’ve put together this post in order to answer some of these questions.
First off, the hack. The hack in question is another OEM BIOS hack but packaged under the name of Vista Loader. This hack is similar to the Paradox OEM BIOS. The Paradox hack was the most commonly used Vista activation hack (which is why Microsoft pulled the plug on it) but this one seems to have been quite popular, so I’m not sure why Microsoft didn’t pull the plug on this one too. Since other outlets have now named this hack as working on Vista SP1 I don’t have any problem with naming it here.
As you can see from the video above (or the gallery - I’ve put up a separate gallery because the video is rather small), this hack can take a non-genuine Vista SP1 installation and turn it into one that appears genuine to the OS.
After the reboot you can see a product key being entered - this is one of many OEM product keys shipped with the hack. Unless the hack is correctly applied these key is considered invalid by the OS. With the hack the addition of the product key makes the OS appears like a genuine OEM install.
It seems to me that Microsoft has been rather half-heated about blocking OEM BIOS activation hack. However, just because this hack works today, that doesn’t mean that Microsoft won’t change tweak WGA at a later date in order to close it off. Given how this hack works I’d say that it would be a trivial matter for Microsoft to add a detection routine for it.
SP1 was supposed to seek out and uncover activation hacks so that life was harder for pirates and that customers were reassured that their install of Vista was legit - it hasn’t. What I’ve shown here is that it’s easy to fool SP1 into thinking that a non-genuine copy is genuine.

nothing that microsoft can do but 'prevent'
i can confirm that sp1 installed perfectly on my system as follows:
asus
a8n-sli deluxe mobo with slic-modded bios (in hardware)
vista home premium x64
i simply installed sp1 and was never questioned by the os regarding the
authenticity.
so vista sp1 rtm 18000 .. notebook hp ... i try all the cracks in net but nothing work
for activate (oem cracks - boot cracks - paradox -vistaloader etc etc) . i confirmed that
in a workstion (asus mobo) the same so installed with usual crack still activated !!
i'm confused !!
sp1 x64 installed fine without needing reactivation. i used the oem bios hack from stro
version ff2.1.2.1.2 sometime last year and i've never had a problem since.
i
wonder if somewhere at microsoft they realized that all of their attempts to thwart
cracking is in vain, and so instead of spending money to fix the hacks in sp1 they decided
to just say that they fixed it to discourage people from attempting to update.
this crack works with sp1 (build 1840) on my nc6120

all current hackz do not work with vista sp1
i had no idea what crack i had for vista because it was done during installation(built
into dvd). i did know it was a bios emulation or softmod, but wasn't sure if it was
paradox or vistaloader. after doing some research i realized the difference between the
two and what to look for. the paradox installs a driver that you can find in the device
manager "non plug and play drivers" maybe it's in "services" too, not sure. and
vistaloader edits the hidden bootmgr and doesn't install drivers just a "oem" folder in
the root. i found out that i luckily had the vistaloader crack, thus would have no
problems with sp1, which i have installed with total success.
if you have
vistaloader installed, you might briefly see a dos screen appear before bootmgr screen
appears.
why this long winded post? some people
may not be sure which
activation hack is on the computer if it was performed automatically during installation.
i would even go so far to say that it you don't remember installing the paradox crack
yourself, then you will be able to install sp1 and stay activated.
for those
with the paradox crack. remove and use vistaloader 2.2, then install sp1.
who wants to buy crippled software from msoft?
when you buy vista, your buying
crippled software, that doesn’t allow you do to what you want, for example tcpip is caped
on vista (worse than xp), and many other blocks, and limits, to control what you do.
to be honest the bios hack ?, not really anything that emulates is not really a hack
or a crack, it simply emulating hardware, in exactly the same way a virtual software would
do it, i keep seeing this bios thing called a hack or what have you, but technically its
not, the reason why msoft don’t block it off, is the fact its 1. not inside windows, there
for msoft has no jurisdiction to disable the emulator, what they can do is exactly what
they are planning to do, that is notify the person that its there, blocking it might cause
problems on windows running on other systems not just pc’s !, you have to remember outside
of windows matter not, windows can run on mac, amiga, emulators etc etc etc.. so msoft
have to tred carefully when dealing with things like bios emulators, cause it could render
other things not able to run the operating system, and makes no difference what hardware
you run windows on in the first place, and for two msoft don’t legally have right to shut
down delete anything that’s on your system that doesn’t belong to msoft, modifying your
system is not illegal, what is illegal is distributing it, i think a lot of people have
lost sight of reality, where becoming more virtual as every day passes, just don’t hack
me, i’m a good boy lol
hi all,
maybe i will post here something very stupid and all of you will say: "yes
we know and you have to do..."
well i installed the sp1 without any problems
and know i have only limited functions in my office applications. like i cannot change
documents or reply on email.
any idea what to do...?
thanks
i used the vistaloader 'hack' last year pre sp1. i installed sp1 and its working fine,
no activation, no bulls***.
i installed vista with sp1 (embedded) iso using the 2099 hack and after putting back to
current date, it failed. i saw the activate now or later window. leaving it in this
current state and able to get back to the desktop. i ran my 2 hack attack using the cloney
and the timerstop v2 programs, using both worked to stop the timer and the activation and
the message that this copy was not legal, all went away.
1. install vista normally,
don't change the dates.
2. install all hw drivers if any.
3. install all
windows updates.
4. disable the uac and restart the pc.
5. press f8 to disable
driver signing during post.
6. log in and run the cloney program from feb, restart
when prompted.
7. press f8 again to disable the driver signing post.
8. log in
and run the timerstop v2 program and restart the pc when prompted.
9. log in and run
slmgr.vbs -dlv to check the timer. mine reported 43200mins after being on the desktop for
over 5 mins.
this was done on x32 and i haven't checked x64 however suspect
that this proceedure might be the same for x64. i used this same proceedure for non sp1
x64.
activation stop
x32/x64 (non-sp1)
x32:
1. install vista normally,
don't change the bios dates. use current date.
2. install vista x32 with out a key.
3. install all hw drivers if any.
4. install all windows critical updates.
5. using the date/time from the systray, set the date for 12/31/2079 or 2099.
6. open
the cmd box with admin rights.
7. type cscript slmgr.vbs –rearm
8. restart the
pc when prompted.
9. using the date/time from the systray, set it for the current
date and year.
10. run the timerstop v2 program with admin rights. (right click on
file)
11. select test then ok.
12. select install then close all windows and
restart.
13. log in and run slmgr.vbs -dlv to check the timer. should report
43200mins after being on the desktop for over 5 mins or more.
x64:
1.
install vista normally, don't change the dates.
2. install all hw drivers if any.
3. install all windows critical updates.
4. disable the uac and restart the pc.
5. press f8 to disable driver signing during post.
6. log in and run the cloney
feb v1 program, restart when prompted.
7. press f8 again to disable the driver
signing post.
8. log in and run the timerstop v2 program and restart the pc when
prompted.
9. log in and run slmgr.vbs -dlv to check the timer. should report
43200mins after being on the desktop for over 5 mins or more. if so, activation has been
stopped permanently or until ms breaks it.
x32/x64 (with sp1 embedded)
x32
with sp1:
i installed vista with sp1 (embedded) iso using the 2099 hack and after
putting back to current date, it failed. i saw the activate now or later window. leaving
it in this current state and able to get back to the desktop. i ran the x64 (non-sp1)
procedure using the cloney and the timerstop v2 programs, using both worked to stop the
timer, the activation and the message that this copy was not genuine, all went away.
x64 with sp1:
3-20-08: the x64 (non-sp1) procedure fails to work on x64.
3-20-08: the vista loader v2.2.0 works on a dell optiplex 740. this is only for the
mentioned manufactured oem pcs. i hope they find a solution for non-oem or custom pc’s
like dfi and others.
i found a release by zwtiso crew:
vista.sp1.bootloader.zwtiso
