Windows Vista Service Pack 1 in the Wild
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 7.2.2008
Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversBy now many of you may have seen reports of Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 in the wild.
For a while, it was merely speculation (and several good hints) towards Release Candidate Refresh 2 (RCR2) being the Release to Manufacturer (RTM) build. There has been a 'registry hack' going around for a few days now to enable the option to download SP1 via Windows Update. This 'hack' is actually straight from Microsoft, which was given to beta testers on Connect January 23rd.
According to Geeks Anatomy, Jeff DaVos (a Windows Vista SP1 beta program leader) has said on the Connect news group that this is indeed the same release being used for RTM, and that “What you got is what we’re all running our Vista machines here internally - we definitely RTM’d”.
Note: As I am sure Microsoft will say, using anything except for files downloaded from Microsoft directly is a risk. If you plan to install SP1 via the registry changes, you are accepting this risk.

the windows update shows windows vista sp1 release candidate 1?
i installed it and at the end, it said installing service pack failed, and went back to
the original. it had a watermark saying that windows is not genuine. i restart, it is
gone!!! now back to normal vista. phuck
i use modded bios and it failed so what the
heck is going on here?
i just used the registry hack on my spare hdd, took a good long time, but once it sorted
itself out it installed and was reasonably fine, video and sound were mangled, funnily
enough, automatic updates said i needed audio and video driver, i did the audio and used
nvidia i already had all fine. my bios is slic modded asus mb. the system reports it as
vista service pack 1 and all seems ok, not alot different to before, on my main hd i'll
wait for automatic updates to do it, 90mb i had to download.
just use the slic method and its activated no problem
hmm mine says "windows vista service pack 1 release candidate 1 - build 6001.18000
(x86)"
rtm is build 18000 as we know.
so is this rc1 or rtm?
as far as i can tell using this registry hack will get you the rtm version of sp1. all of
my checks confirm that it is the rtm version that comes down via windows update.
what about directx?
does it show version 10.1 in dxdiag?
it shows dx 10.0 and service pack 1 for me
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion
current build
6001
csd build number 1616
csdversion service pack 1
buildlab
6001.longhorn_rtm.080118-1840
buildlabex 6001.18000.x86fre.longhorn_rtm.080118-1840
see picture

it installed after all. it is genuine with modded slic bios. the system is noticably
faster. and shows dx 10 for me.
this is not the rtm sp1 download hack but the release candidate refresh
2(rcr2)6.0.6001.18000 hack!!!!! i got this weeks ago!!!!!!!!! if your smart just run the
rcr2 for a couple of weeks! m$ will release the genuine sp1 around the 18th of february
are so! :-)
yes, confirmd the picture. you have the vist sp1 rcr2! same as mine! i´m not sure when
microsoft will release the rtm but i read that its soon
i downloaded the file from the above like and compared it with my sp1 rc and my sp1 rcr2
your right it is the exact same as the rcr2! it must be that some a** hole changed the
name from sp1_rcr2rk to vistasp1wu so that he feels important in his own world!!! ha,ha,ha
what an idiot!!
in the system properties, it doesn't say that it is a candidate. in other places, it
says build 6001 service pack 1. no rc1 or rc2 included in the properties so this is an
official release of service pack 1 rtm.
to god knows,
this is an rtm release, notice how the registry says rtm on the back
of longhorn. so this is confirmed sp1 rtm. people, it is so obvious how it is rtm release.
thanks jeffy.
anytime
so your saying that sp1 rcr2 is the rtm?! because i downloaded the rcr2 and installed it
on my system and have been run it for about a month now and it says the exact same thing!
i have not installed the reg hack from above because it is exactly the same as sp1 rcr2´s
reg hack but with a name change!!! so why bother trying when i already have it in my reg.
and if you have the sp1 rc and the sp1 rcr2 reg hacks download the reg hack from above and
do a little comparing of the files by right clicking on them and choosing edit and you
will see that sp1 rcr2 is exactly like the reg hack as above but with a name change!!! and
look in your reg. and you will see that it is the same too as the reg. hack from above!!!
james,
my friend works for microsoft, and he confirmed that there is no such thing
as candidate 2, it is either candidate 1 or rtm.
rc2 is not this windows update hack. it is rtm that says " release candidate one"
basically they did nothing over the rtm release, the rtm release has no difference over
rc2 cause they are the same thing. no registry cahnge either. this is confirmed rtm!!!!

lable-for-download-77212.shtml
what i mean is, rc2 is rtm, there is no difference, they didn't change anything during
the period of rc2 and rtm.
i am not jeff! you got me confused! sorry for the wrong answers. i am talking about the
same thing as jeffy.

like i told you.

with the sp1´s! now i know. and once again thanks for the help! :-)
no problem.
