Fans of Apple's notebooks may be in for a treat, as the new SKUs seem to incorporate more than just mere updates, but Air's gesture-based trackpad as well.

The leaked screens, available thanks to macrumors.com, also reveal the new MacBook Pro price points, starting at $1,999. Surprisingly though, all SKUs feature the exact same price points as current MacBook Pros - $1,999, $2,499 and $2,799 for the high-end model, bumped to 2.6ghz (Intel Core 2 Duo) on November 1, 2007 (for $250 more). While there is no change in pricing for the MacBook Pro, updates and improvements are most likely in order. All three models show an in-stock date of February 10th, 2008.

As mentioned above, the corporation behind the Macintosh brand issued a report a while ago announcing its plans to introduce new features to most of its notebooks during the course of this year, particularly those found with the Air's trackpad. The initiative concerned 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models.

AppleInsider compared Apple's initiative to a similar one regarding the iSight webcams, which can be seen on most of Apple's personal computer systems today. So it is only natural to believe that Apple will be scaling its gesture-based input technology across notebook lines during 2008.

The intuitive and innovative multi-touch technology is already available with Apple's MacBook Air. Using the oversized trackpad, MacBook Pro owners will (presumably) be able to pinch, swipe, or rotate to zoom in on text, advance through a photo album, or adjust an image. And since the company has had so much success with gesture-based actions on the iPod touch, why wouldn't Apple be making it available with its MacBook lineup too?

Further proof that the two images in question indeed reflect the upcoming availability of multi-touch-enabled MacBook Pros actually comes from Apple themselves, who have confirmed in the aforementioned report that the first two models to be updated with the oversized trackpads are the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models. The new SKUs are set for display within the following weeks, as sources familiar with the company's product roadmap revealed.

Reportedly, the newly-updated notebooks will be the first to employ Intel’s Penryn-based Core 2 Duo mobile processors.
