Microsoft doesn't recommend creating Vista "Lite" with vLite

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 2.2.2008

Some people have been turning to a utility called vLite, which out components of the operating system deemed unessential.

"Microsoft does not recommend using any tool to strip out applications from Windows Vista prior to installing it on your system, as it may affect your ability to download future Windows updates and service packs, and may cause your system to become unstable", the company said in an e-mail to CNET News.com.

"may cause your system to become unstable". then again, loading vista at all will slow you down 2x over xp. and on and on and on!

No issues

i used vlite a few releases back and removed trivial items such as accessability, games, wallpaper and things of that nature. no problems and a lean install is what i have. i think stability issues only come in when you yank out critical services. in that area everything relies on something else and removing the wrong service can cause some isssues.

I Love Vista

WTF?!?!

By Circuit Daemon on 03.02.2008 - 08:02
"may cause your system to become unstable" i thought vista itself made it unstable enough...

Ows???

By tantan on 03.02.2008 - 09:02
they accuse vlite because they must be in superior source of having the "right" to remove unimportant and bulky features of vista.
actually, vlite helps in minimizing the overwhelming system requirements of vista (e.g.).
well if there will be updates, most of them are not useful!

I second this!

By panki_86 on 03.02.2008 - 20:02
i have celeron 533mhz,256mb ram graphic card geforce fx5200 128mb and vista is working on it! that is my second pc!

yeah riiiiiight!

By rucamx PT on 03.02.2008 - 23:02
i've been using this proggie for quite sometime now, first using nlite and now vlite,if you dont need the upgrades from microsoft(which u dont, trust me),by creating your own vista, you can make it waaaaaaaaay more stable and fast than normal versions. ive done one without media center, movie maker, zip, photo gallery and some other stuff.result:
a more stable and fast system,no more a resource hog.i have 2 gb ram laptop and when it's idle it "consumes" 400 mb of ram, when in charge, like burning a dvd or playing a game,it doesn't do more them 1.4 gb ram...hail the vista lite!
vista reinvented!

peace \/

MS out of touch

By krazy1 on 04.02.2008 - 17:02
the bulk of vista utilities is to check on you, see if your copy is legit, collect browsing habits etc...
every service pack will include anti pirate and more privacy issues , nothing about real performance
