The Microsoft reorg week in review

It’s time, yet again, to update the ever-changing Microsoft org chart. Here’s another piece to add to the seemingly never-ending stream of Microsoft reorg news: Developer Platform and Evangelism (DPE) Chief Sanjay Parthasarathy has given up his post (as of mid-December, 2007).

Parthasarathy has led evanglism of the Microsoft platform to developers, IT pros and channel partners.

The new DPE chief is Walid Abu-Hadba, a Softie whose most recent title was Vice President of Enterprise Specialist Sales for Microsoft’s Enterprise Partner Group. No word yet on what Parthasarathy is going to do, but word is he is staying at the company.

So, this week’s scorecard (for those trying to keep up at home):

* Microsoft Business Division President Jeff Raikes to resign as of September. Replaced by former Juniper Networks Chief Operating Officer Stephen Elop.
* Microsoft Mergers & Acquisition Chief Bruce Jaffe resigns effective February 29. No replacement yet named (at least not publicly).
* Microsoft General Manager of Platform Strategy Charles Fitzgerald resigns. His replacement: Tim O’Brien, who currently is Group Manager of Microsoft Platform Strategy.
* Microsoft DPE Chief Sanjay Parthasarathy is moving on; Walid Abu-Habda is the new Vice President of DPE. No word yet on what Parthasarathy ’s new job inside Microsoft will be.
* Almost forgot this one: General Manager of Community Support Services and Microsoft’s MVP (Most Valuable Professional) program Sean O’Driscoll resigned in late December to pursue his own community interests. No replacement has been named for O’Driscoll so far.

On “Microsoft wins one” side, Microsoft has snagged Greg Linden of Findory personalized news fame to work on the LiveLabs team. Linden pulled the plug on Findory last fall.

So what’s one to make of all this churn? Brain drain? Panic over Gates’ impending role change? Or just “if it’ January, it must be time for yet another Microsoft reorg”? Word is there are still some more reorg shoes to drop in the next week or so, so stay tuned….
