section: microsoft, for your questions: KezNews forum, 7.1.2008

Tired of getting home to your non working Xbox 360 remote? Everyone can agree it can be a drag getting up every time you want to turn the volume up, or switch to a different viewing mode, not to mention skipping through the chapters if you're looking for something in particular.

So whether it's the DVD features that don't work, the sound or video that is poor, whether buttons simply don't work or even if you experience overall performance issues with the Xbox 360 console itself, the guide below may just answer some of your questions and even get the machine working properly for you, so have a look.

Troubleshoot the Xbox 360 Media Remote

If you encounter problems with your Xbox 360 Media Remote, try the possible solutions provided below.

DVD Features Don't Work

Some DVDs may not support all DVD playback features of the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, such as subtitles, multilingual audio tracks, multiple viewing angles, and slow-motion play.

For more information about supported features, see the producer's documentation for the DVD in question. In rare instances, certain DVDs may not operate properly. This is due primarily to variations in the manufacturing process or software encoding of the DVD video software.

Video or Sound Is Poor or Not Working

Make sure your AV cable is properly connected. For setup and AV troubleshooting information, see the Xbox 360 Setup manual, your AV cable instructions, or Troubleshoot Audio/Video Connections.

Buttons Don't Work

Make sure the batteries are still fresh by testing the remote with new batteries. Try removing the batteries from the remote, pressing all buttons twice, and then replacing the batteries.

Poor Performance with the Xbox 360 Console

- Make sure that you have fresh batteries in the remote.
- Point the remote directly at the infrared sensor adjacent to memory unit slot A.
- Check to verify that the infrared sensor is not blocked or covered.
- Make sure that you're using the remote within 10 feet of the infrared sensor.
- Close drapes and blinds during daylight hours to minimize ambient infrared.
