Microsoft Downplays XP SP3, but Strongly Recommends Vista SP1
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 3.1.2008
With both Windows Vista and Windows XP available on the market, Microsoft has virtually thrown the two operating systems against one another in the public arena.
The strategy does not ultimately hurt the company as both platforms are Windows iterations and will contribute to maintaining the lion's share of the operating system market. Still, it is clear that Microsoft is pushing Vista to the foreground while slipping XP in its shadow. The same is valid for the upcoming service packs for the two products. In the first quarter of 2008, Vista is scheduled to receive its first service pack. According to Microsoft, Windows XP SP3 will be served by mid 2008, this is the official position, with the company giving indications that SP3 will also drop in the first quarter of this year.
"While Windows Vista and 2007 Office Servers are getting their first service pack updates, Windows XP is getting its last. For TechNet subscribers, Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. Windows XP SP3 will be a rollup that includes all previously released updates for Windows XP, including security updates, out-of-band releases and hotfixes. It contains a small number of new updates, but should not significantly change the Windows XP experience", the company explained via the TechNet Flash Newsletter, as cited by Clare Dillon, Microsoft UK, Developer Community Contact.
Judging strictly by the description of Windows XP SP3, users have nothing to look forward to. This is Microsoft's way of turning heads toward Windows Vista. In early 2007, the Redmond company also downplayed Vista SP1, revealing that the refresh will be nothing more than a standard service pack. A year later, Microsoft is almost exclusively focused on pushing Vista SP1, even if this will happen in the detriment of Windows XP.
"If you are one of the people who have been waiting for Windows Vista Service Pack 1, you can now incorporate SP1 code into your testing, piloting and deployment planning activity. The Release Candidate of Windows Vista SP1 is now available for download. Note that if you do take advantage of the pre-release code program, do remember that the code will likely change before its final release. In this case, we strongly recommend that you also plan to install the final version of Windows Vista SP1 when it is released in the first quarter of 2008", Dillon added.

if they want me to update they will give me vista
i got it lol but
its crappy
vista works fine but need heaps ram..bigger cpu. bigger graphics.
vista free for me
ok, vista needs a much bigger machine than windows xp, just as xp did over win98; the
problem is there is nothing that needs vista to run, that puts all that "new technology"
to work, as xp did over 98.
so for now better off with xp, which is faster for
everything i need to do (and everything i do not need to do, either...)
"judging strictly by the description of windows xp sp3, users have nothing to look

so why install sp3? probably a system-crippler anyway-force you
to drop sp, buy vista.
vista sales stalled because of word-of-mouth statements
of dissatisfaction.
m$ is known for releasing software that isn't ready and
takes years to get functional.
after all the lies and dirty tricks we don't
trust them anymore.
and who could believe that "windows genuine advantage" is
of benefit to the consumer? i"m a legit (paid for) user, so i don't care if the pirates
get deactivated, just don't try to con me with talk about how you're doing me favors.
building new software with ever-increasing resource needs is b.s.
geared
toward selling new boxes.
the collusion among component(chip) manufacturers and
software companies is obvious.
everything that individuals and businesses need
to operate is available right now. we are paying for the increased capability desired by
spy agencies and gamers who have given up normal human social interaction.
end
of rant.
i'm currently dual-booting vista and xp. and lucky i am as so many programs and games
aren't working on vista. and that compatibility thing is bullshit.
yes, i did
install with the one-click timestop crack and it is amazing 43,200 mintutes left, always!
but when sp2 comes out i'm guessing that it would be disabled so i'm not going to
install it.
ms is pushing vista and it sux ass. its a real resource hog. :( xp is the best windows os
to date and they should be pushing that. i think ms is scared because vista was a big flop
and they don't want to look like a loser by dropping it for xp. cheers everybody!
try using vista for some time on a good computer then try using xp,then you will realized
that vista is better.
