The Evolution of the Windows XP SP3 Activation Architecture
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 28.12.2007
Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversWith the availability of the third and final service pack for Windows XP in early 2008, Microsoft will introduce a series of modifications to the operating system's fabric.
Users will not be able to see nowhere near the extent of changes delivered by SP2, but one aspect of the platform that will be evolved is the activation architecture. At this point in time, using just the downloadable standalone Release Candidate of Windows XP SP3, the alterations implemented will not be visible.
"As with previous service packs, no product key is requested or required when installing Windows XP SP3 using the update package available through Microsoft Update", Microsoft informed. "The Windows Product Activation changes in Windows XP SP3 are not related to the Windows Vista Key Management Service (KMS). This update affects only new operating system installations from integrated source media. This update affects the installation media only and is not a change to how activation works in Windows XP."
However, a complete installation of the platform with SP3 deployed on top will be very similar to what Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista offer. In this regard, XP users will no longer have to enter the mandatory product key during the installation process. Windows XP SP3 will present the alternative to skip the stage and continue the installation, making the introduction of the 25-character code optional.
"As in Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Windows Vista, users can now complete operating system installation without providing a product key during a full, integrated installation of Windows XP SP3. The operating system will prompt the user for a product key later as part of Genuine Advantage. As with previous service packs, no product key is requested or required when installing Windows XP SP3 using the update package available through Microsoft Update", Microsoft revealed.
The installation of XP SP3 will complete with no problems and, just as in Vista, users will have the option to test drive the operating system for a total of 30 days. But unlike Vista, XP SP3 does not feature the "rearm" command and as such the initial 30-day Grace period cannot be extended. XP SP3 will only require the product key at the end of the Initial Grace period, and failing to provide a valid one will virtually lock the user out of the operating system.
"Entry of a product key will be required later for continued use of Windows. If you choose not to enter the product key now, you might need to reinstall Windows later and potentially lose files and information, or you might need to purchase another edition of Windows", is the message presented by the operating system to the users that will choose to skip entering a product key during the deployment of XP SP3.

so why install xp sp3?
sp3 is just anti piracy patch not a fix for all the bugs in
sp2
what about corporate edition?
well, for one it includes more sata hard disk drives(hdd) support then the sp2...although
this also has it,it doesnt work all that well.
if u splitstream it and join with a
full xp professional version,it will work on any computer either using sata or (p)ata hdd.
this might mean nothing to some people, but for me it's great, means i don't have to
integrate those drivers on a xp sp2 cd anymore...
peace \/
why bring out xp2 sp3 if vista is so great? why change activation features in a
supposedly dead end os? what if anything in this makes sense? microsoft has stumbled
badly once again with its programmers filling unneeded payroll positions and churning out
disconnected solutions in a badly fragmented and fractured product line. good grief,
microsoft, get it together - linux looking better and better these days.
if winxp is so dead and vista is latest and greatest why would mcrocrap put so much
effort into adding another anti-pirate scheme for xp. somebody at ms must of convinced
the execs that xp is here to stay and vista will fade away. bring it on ms. we were
getting board.
vista is just another fad of windows me. that's why windows 7 is coming up to replace
vista. xp came a long way and now xp is here to stay reguardless if ms likes it or not. as
for vista, it's another fade-away me.
am i the only one that thinks that vista resembles millenium somehow? (like something to
avoid...)
before you go bashing windows me, don't forget that it was win me that introduced system
restore.
ye, name someone who made it work before (bleurgh) vista...
nothing wrong with vista, only those who have no idea would say vista is crap :)
i will be cracked i'm sure after it comes out. xp is still the best. vista is bloated
spyware.. sure let the man watch what your doing 24/7 while ms steals your account
numbers.
but much better
....according to accounts published last month, xp sp3 will feature more than 1,000 hot
fixes and patches that have been issued in the past three years, as well as at least four
new features, some of which will be ports of vista tools.
let's see, rollup all the bug fixes, add new activation and anti-piracy features, and
then tell corporate america that vista with sp1 is good to go. my freakin azz it is. how
many of my daily problems are going to remain after vista sp1? why has microsoft failed
to fix the major complaints - just so they can say sp1 is here and vista is ready? are u
kidding... fix the problems in vista - quality first, ford has learned, maybe microsoft
can learn too.
i have slipstreamed the latest rc xpsp3 into an older corporate edition xp disc.you can
still use a vlk keygen (this may not be the case if you have a newer edition installation
disc as i belive they can detect a vlk serial). after installation i used the windows xp
permanent patch kit (modifies the hosts file although you can do this manually).once
patched you can still use windows update, validate media player 11 etc.lets hope this is
still the case with the final sp3 release.
dnt install vista sp1 on pirated vista it ask u to activate ur jack sparrow version vista
dnt use beware of vista sp1...take my advase guys.im a comtech so trust me...asian will
find a away to hack vista no matter wat bill gates make...
ba2sai you talk crap...
just i wanna try wat is so extra ordinary
