Microsoft files 52 suits over pirated software

Microsoft is ramping up its fight against counterfeit software, this time targeting people alleged to have sold pirated versions of its programs on online marketplaces.
The company said late yesterday that it has filed lawsuits against 52 alleged resellers of counterfeit software and referred 22 piracy cases to law enforcement agencies in more than 20 countries. Here's an example of one of the lawsuits the company filed in the U.S.: PDF, 51 pages.
Microsoft said 15 of the lawsuits involve software traced to what was believed to be the largest-ever counterfeit software syndicate, which was broken up this year by Microsoft and law-enforcement officials from the U.S. and China.
Microsoft's controversial Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy tool also played a role, according to the company. Consumers whose software was flagged by WGA filed reports that helped identify the targeted resellers.
In a related move, Microsoft and eBay said they had jointly produced a "Microsoft Buying Guide," to advise consumers on how to safely buy real software in online marketplaces.

uhhhh, define software.
microsoft needs to get real with its pricing. when people can afford to buy it the
pirating will slow down.
tc, would you steal a car just because you couldn't afford to buy it?
minotaur : you cannot compare a piece of software with a car.
production costs are
not exactly the same :;
with software production cost is nil.

if you buy a car it is yours.

computer it is yours.
if you buy a dog it is yours.
if you buy a house it is
yours.
if you buy a tv licence in the uk you can use it on up 2 7 tv sets for approx
£130 fair even if the cost is possibly higher than it should be.
if you buy m$
windows you don't own it you are not allowed to transfer it unless it's a retail copy
you can only use it on 1 computer at a time and it is vastly overpriced.
if i
could use it on multiple computers at home like a tv licence i would buy a copy tomorrow
until then long live fair rights.
minotaur, right on. i can see why ppl would say that windows can only be on 1 comp at a
time. they never paid for it so how would they know? im legal & using vista on 3 systems.
