Vista Is Old News – Windows 7 Will BLOW Your Mind!

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 12.12.2007

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated drivers

Windows Vista was supposed to just make you utter the Wow onomatopoeia when it launched for the general consumers, at the end of January 2007.

And delivering a limp Wow, vista managed to fail at that simple task. At almost one year since it first hit the shelves, the Wow has died, and Microsoft has scrapped any reference to it from anything even remotely related to its latest Windows client. Having dropped the first Release Candidate for Vista SP1 and while gearing up for the final availability of the service pack, Microsoft is, in no way, preparing to revive the Wow.

In fact, the Redmond company is now focusing on its upcoming Windows client: Windows 7. In this context, Hilton Locke, Microsoft Software Test Engineer, went out on a limb and promised that Windows 7 was designed to virtually blow the user's mind with its touch features. Locke compared the interface of the iPhone to that of the upcoming Windows 7 and revealed that the touch capabilities of the latter would make the technology incorporated in Apple's phone irrelevant. "I will say that if you are impressed by the "touch features" in the iPhone, you'll be blown away by what's coming in Windows 7", Locke revealed.

Microsoft has a few projects in development, build on the concept of natural user interfaces. Microsoft Surface, the company's tabletop computer, is just such an example, with the interface allowing for multi-touch capabilities, as well as gesture and object recognition. Surface, at this point in time, is based on Windows Vista. But at the same time, Locke referred to Tablet computers. And in this regard, the company is already hard at work on InkSeine, a project from Microsoft Research that could find its way into Windows 7, running on Tablet machines. Windows 7 is currently planned for 2010.

By upgrade upgrade on 13.12.2007 - 01:12
...and the specks for windows 7 will be 8 gig ram 16gig for one of the 7 versions that are to be sold. 500gb min drive. 1 gig video card 4 if you want the ipod like stuff to work. oh, and it will be 8x slower than xp. and it will be priced from $99 for basic that does nothing, and $499.00 for the one that does 50% of what you want it to do. i can't wait. can i pre pay now and be first on the list?

Promises Promises

By Hahaiah on 13.12.2007 - 01:12
by then friggin apple will probably be able to read your mind ...

unreal

By flbudz on 13.12.2007 - 02:12
is it me or has m$ actually convinced itself that its ideas are the only real good ones! the need to stop keeping up with the jones/apples/'nixs and get an original idea!!!

Why not functional and not futuristic

By a clue on 13.12.2007 - 03:12
is microsoft blind? winxp was a big hit because it was very functional, it would be a lot easier if they did the same thing for windows 7, we dont need touch screen, have to buy a new lcd screen with money we dont have. oh well, i guess they think with all their money, they can force their products on use.

Microsoft are you serious?

By Sarj on 13.12.2007 - 03:12
my arm is sore just thinking about it!
i'm going from making a minuscule movement with my mouse or pen and tab to reaching for my lcd to finger print it.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

By anon on 13.12.2007 - 03:12
touch? great they can add that to all their other cool features like wga, drm, windows activation..

the best thing going on in os news is that more of the best windows only software will continue to move on to other operating systems.

Touch Features

By Anon on 13.12.2007 - 04:12
the touch feature is just plain stupid for a desktop or laptop computer. nothing like making you screen all dirty with finger prints and having to clean it all the time. that would be just a huge annoyance.

and whats with all these stupid articles by the same guy who is anti-vista at softpedia?

Touch Features

By exit on 13.12.2007 - 04:12
reminds me of the push to talk on nextel phones/ touch the screen
not for the main stream but has its place.

vista

By dark on 13.12.2007 - 09:12
that gur probably used to say the same thing about xp when it was launched. and now he loves it. get a life

Touch screen whats the point?

By mattyboy on 13.12.2007 - 11:12
i can't think of a single thing a mouse pointer cant do that a touching finger on screen can

an idea

By mattyboy on 13.12.2007 - 11:12
how about a device that you only have to move within just one inch to access anywhere on screen. that would blow touch screen out of the water!!!! dur..

dark.

By sjc1963 on 13.12.2007 - 11:12
dork, you have to get a clue. xp was never as bad as vista is, not by a long shot....

mattyboy. they have a type of mouse, for handicapped persons, that is moved around the screen just by looking at where you want it to go.

Upgrade

By micromad on 13.12.2007 - 12:12
so, to upgrade to windows 7 you'll also have to upgrade to a touch screen monitor. then reach across to the monitor and suffer arm ache and shoulder problems, unless you buy a table monitor and suffer back and neck problems from hunching over it. i'll stick to a mouse and keyboard thanks billy g.

New Activation

By cynocal on 13.12.2007 - 14:12
pease scan the finger you wish to use with this version of windows touch. your fingerprint will be used to activate windows. if you wish to use another finger you may have to reactivate!!!

Negative

By Negative on 13.12.2007 - 14:12
cut the crap and show us a beta version. case close.
vista is full of it and that how it started with full of promises...all turn out to be a money grabber for their next project.

no gimmicks thanks...

By Richo on 13.12.2007 - 18:12
i don't wanna finger my monitor all the time. ms should work on reliability and speed improvements.

Tired of so many Windows versions

By windows warrior on 13.12.2007 - 19:12
though i love to use windows operating systems, i'm really tired of this never ending new and more demanding windows versions. windows xp is good enough till death do us part.!!!! :) :)

By rucamx PT on 13.12.2007 - 20:12

Ya'll need to Switch to Apple......

By Meloxy on 13.12.2007 - 21:12
believe it or not microsoft is full of shit. i mean come on! vista! that shit was a complete flop. i got me a mac and i must admit the switch was worth it. i enjoy every bit of mac os x. can you imagine the next generation of os x? damn!!!!!!! virtual flow.........

Hard to believe......

By The CAT on 13.12.2007 - 22:12
it's hard to believe that microsoft is already moving forward, makes you feel real confident about investing in vista!! you have to crawl before walking, i want microsoft to fix vista first before they move on as it's not right to stick the paying user on the sideburner leaving them behind with issues. if they use this policy, nobody will buy windows 7. this is linux's chance to score points against vista. let's hope some distro can compete head on with windows 7 as i believe microsoft has gotten soft since they've been the biggest fish for so long....

!!!!!!!

By Chris123 on 13.12.2007 - 22:12
give windows 10 to the people !!!
it will probably require a supercomputer to operate and 1000 euros to activate !!!

GREAT!!!

By NoOne on 13.12.2007 - 23:12
just what we need, an updated version of m$ bob...

Vista promised much, but delivered little

By moosh101 on 13.12.2007 - 23:12
in the early days of its development, microsoft 'intended' much for vista, but by its general release date much of the 'intended' was removed. i wonder if this is not what we are seeing again here - high hopes, but in the end only mediocrity. i guess only time will tell.

IPR Prevents Windows from Improving...

By Ivan on 13.12.2007 - 23:12
unfortunately, intellectual property rights prevent everyone else to build upon prior innovation here in the u.s.

meaning, there is a huge opportunity for someone or some business to offer a better operating system now, other than microsoft. but, the problem is, all the source code used to make things work, in the operating system is forbidden to be shared to everyone else to improve, and review it...

review and improve being the source code used in windows operating system. thus microsoft gets to hold on, lock us in, and we get to suffer with this buggy error operating system.

another version of windows isn't going to fix anything you know...

just look at crappy vista, and we all can see and experience the many issues, errors, mistakes and problems...

what we need is a new better operating system, that allows everyone to improve it...

linux or other open source gplv3 source code can do that for us all...and is why microsfot is 1005 against this.

microsoft has more than it's fair share... it's time to allow society to benefit.

ultra advanced stupid 7 technology

By x-creed on 14.12.2007 - 00:12
many software developers r workin on makin their software as smart as possible makin it use the least resources as possible whle microsoft r workin on makin their products as stupid as possible

When Will you Stop Complaining????

By Ericko on 14.12.2007 - 01:12
more complains?

i still remember when win98 was so good and winxp was so bad.

vista will be so good and win7 will be so bad.

win7 will be so good and win8 will be so bad.

bill gates has the money and the company. he can do bad or good software as he pleases.

stop complaining, use the os you like the most and get a life!

Sit back....

By MechEng on 14.12.2007 - 01:12
...and look it over. by all recent news it gives me the feel that ms is starting to panic. copycats, futuristic feel? looks like a ferrari but with a lada engine.

under the meantime im putting together my own linux dist under vmware, dont really like where this is heading so i'd rather take the time and learn a new os and deploy it when i feel its stable and xp is shot dead.

MS and Vista and XP

By BillGates on 14.12.2007 - 11:12
like many people have said fix fookin vista first ms !! it cud be gud !! with a little attention...as for me ill stick with xp least it works..well sometimes :) ms are becoming like game distributers put out an unfinished game and then patch the fooker 5 mins later !!....get yer fookin act together man...and dont mention linux...id like to fookin hang that penguin..pile o shite !!

Windows 7 - I'll Pirate it

By Pirate on 15.12.2007 - 00:12
i bought vista ultimate..what a piece of crap, guess i'll pirate the next 2 or 3 os's from ms...bought me, pirated all up to vista. guess i had one of those old timer lapses.. 7 will be another vista..i'm sure.

Bugs in All OS

By Raptor on 16.12.2007 - 12:12
there will always be crappy bugs or features in all os, because they want you to buy the next os, hoping it will be better. if vista was perfect, why would there be any need for another os (windows 7). same goes for xp. this is some basic business tactics from m$ side.

Vista with Boob Jobs

By Ghettocowboy on 17.12.2007 - 18:12
wow, finally, vista get a boob job, now we can touch

Calm Down?

By OS on 21.01.2008 - 15:01
every os has its own benefits and flaws. so use whatever os that you're comfortable with and quit whining. windows is not the only os out there. peace!

Have a cry

By TechHead19 on 22.01.2008 - 03:01
vista's shit? buy a mac so ul stop complaining

what's the point

By murpheus on 22.01.2008 - 10:01
m$ will never listen to its customers. they'll make whatever they want and stick a price tag. they'll sell a few millions copies. make a profit and get down to next in line. users will buy it, pirate it or just leave it where it is, but thats just how life will go.
if you don't like m$ products please, doint buy them or pirate them and then complain. get a mac or linux if you are comfortable with it. this will be the same all over again at the next os.
you think that just because a car manufacturer gets a new model out each year everyone should buy it? no! if you are comfortable in your '92 model or you can't afford the new one. stick with it. as far as it takes you places.
