Forget about Vista SP1, Just Go with XP SP3 and Windows 7

section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 29.11.2007

Windows Vista has managed to deliver an experience at the opposite pole of the Wow, becoming in this context a bitter disappointment for Microsoft.

The Redmond company now has to deal with the very realistic perspective that customers will skip this generation of the Windows client entirely. And although the first service pack for Vista, currently cooking over at Microsoft and planned for the first quarter of 2008, could act as incentive to drive up the adoption of the operating system, the company is offering almost concomitantly the third and final service pack for Windows XP by the summer of next year. This move is effectively designed to take the wind out of Vista's sales, SP1 or no SP1.

Wind? Did I say wind? I meant to say fading breeze. One year following the RTM of Vista, Microsoft's count of operating system licenses shipped into the channel was 88 million. The figure indicates with no doubt that Vista is selling. At least to general consumers. And that with the holiday seasons at the door, Microsoft might just hit and go over the 100 million sold copies milestone. But at the same time, the corporate environment is still timid when it comes to embracing Windows Vista. Recent studies made available by Forrester and King Research indicated that although Vista's uptake will pick up in 2008 with the advent of SP1, the vast majority of businesses have no plans whatsoever to migrate their environments to the latest Windows client. Microsoft even issued an official response to the King Research study.

"Without having looked at the study, it's hard to know whether or not there's any selection bias. The Forrester report, other studies and our own internal data show that business adoption is on a normal trajectory for a new OS at this point in its life cycle, and we are seeing positive indicators in the market that more customers are seeing value in Windows Vista and are starting to plan, test or begin their deployments", the company commented according to Microsoft Watch.

At the same time, inquiries from Silicon.com about Vista migration plans, addressed at 12 Chief Information Officers from major companies belonging to different markets, revealed that only one business actually had plans to move to the latest Windows platform in 2008 after SP1. The remaining respondents either discussed the possibility of migration starting with 2009, or indicated that they will ride out XP plus SP3 for all that the platform's got for three more years and move directly to Windows 7. Microsoft's position all this time is that ignoring Vista is an action equivalent with ignoring the inevitable.

VISTA is the Wind Of Changes our computers....NOT!

By Antonio on 30.11.2007 - 04:11
i was fooled by ms into believing that vista would be the revolutionary wind of changes for home and business computers. after 11 months of working with vista, vista turned out to be the wind of farts and full of sh!ts instead. only c.i.o idiots would even suggest that vista is suitable for company business computers.

upgrade your pc to xp or wait to the next window 7

Agree with you

By xavier on 30.11.2007 - 05:11
after working a while in vista to many little problems and glitches have brought me back to xp, i d' liked the new ui do.

Yet ANOTHER softpedia anti Vista article

By Anon on 30.11.2007 - 07:11
i get tired of these same anti-vista articles written by the same guy at softpedia. if people want to run vista, what the heck should it matter to him?

I love Vista

By anon on 30.11.2007 - 08:11
unlike others here, i like vista very much and have no plans on going back to xp. yet i don't go around spewing crap telling people to drop xp.

i know for a fact vista isn't bad like poeple are claiming. but i guess if you want to believe all the blatant lies.

to anon

By Dan on 30.11.2007 - 08:11
yes, there are some that really hate vista and will not give an unbiased opinion on it. there are some good things about vista and some really bad things. i just think the bad out weigh the good and that's what is wrong with vista. it's very resource intensive and you can't get full enjoyment out of it without having a fast computer. otherwise you are left with turning off it's graphical features, side bar, etc. you know the stuff that people really want to use in the first place. my brother in law bought a new laptop with vista preloaded. it didn't run like crap but it didn't run smooth either. a brand new laptop should never be lagging. vista is very bloated and resource unfriendly. you shouldn't have to have a supercomputer to run vista. the majority of users surf the net, do their finances and school work. it doesn't take a supercomputer to do that. and lastly is price. vista is way over-priced! the majority will not pay those prices for an os that isn't that good to begin with.

fact is that vista has pissed off a lot of people from the start and that has snowballed into the negativity you hear today. vista is not completely bad but could use a lot of work. we all know that vista isn't going to change and most will wait for the next version of windows.

the best thing i liked about vista was how easy it integrated itself. it was easy with network setups and saw every computer i had with no problems. the media sharing feature was nice. it also even detected my xbox360. with xp you had to go through a lot of hoopla to get things configured. having gone back to xp i do miss that part of vista.

Comme ON

By TRAX O2 on 30.11.2007 - 11:11
you know people that have vista tell that it is a good os because they open for office appl. and msn and seurf the net general use but for me the only problem is that i need more seurity stability performance and special for games and not any game. people wake up it is 5 years of development and that's the only thing they have to provide us!!!!!!!!!!

AGAIN

By TRAX O2 on 30.11.2007 - 12:11
a good windows must be fast hi-tec attractive - highly secure- funny - without critical errors. also he must consume less ram and prossing. we can purchase the best hardware but not to be all eated by the os only do you understand....am i clear on this point

ANOTHER POINT

By TRAX O2 on 30.11.2007 - 12:11
we are not against vista we love vista if he would be waht we realy expected and we are not aganisnt microsoft too. we are just hungry why after all these years and we don't see something that can let us realy say wow

Something Else

By TRAX O2 on 30.11.2007 - 12:11
also i will not correct by grammer mistake is it clear. i wirte what i want to write and when i whant to write.

Tired

By AndySP on 30.11.2007 - 13:11
all this stupid articles from softpedia makes me sick. why they want so much destroy vista? now its almost 10% market share they afraid? i don´t know... maybe they just get payed a bonus to write so much stupid articles.

vista

By RaZoR on 30.11.2007 - 14:11
all u people who hate vista have to do is google windows xp rtm,n u will c that xp was far from perfect when it first come out, people called it crap n went back 2 windows 98,give it a chance with aleast 2 service packs,n if that don,t help the os then the writing is on the wall, just my 2 cents

Downgraded

By Ritz on 30.11.2007 - 15:11
just downgraded from vista to xp earlier today.
i liked vista, but there was no justification for the extra system resources it used.
xp just runs much faster.

Vista = $$$ Plus DRM!

By Truth on 30.11.2007 - 15:11
everyone knows vista s u c k s! because everyone knows it cost the highest amount of money for his bloatware packed full of drm!

maybe you don't care that vista dumbs down your operating system, or that it runs slower, requires the fastest computer, and on top of all this, is full of buggy errors, poor hardware driver support, and going to be obsolute in just about a year plus more when microsoft releases yet again another operating system (windows 7) replacing your vista, demanding more money, another upgrade...

so by all means purchase vista now, suffer the lack of support, the drm limitations, hassles of wga, and by the time vista sp2 rolls around, windows 7 will be available...

xp is already proven to function with your software investment now, and everything vista does, you can do with xp anyhow...

vista isn't every going to work... as soon as windows 7 is released, goodbye vista...

xp has already lasted for the longest stretch of time, compared to all versions of windows in use by both the public and the corporations...

vista isn't being used by the corporations, it's not good enough. the public hates vista, and is why everyone isn't buying vista...

only vista fanboi types want to think else...

as soon as windows 7 is released, not one of your vista fanboi types will mention vista again, except to say, what a huge waste of money, time and effort given for vista...

No plans to upgrade here.

By Outlander on 30.11.2007 - 15:11
the company i work for here in southern va that employs about 400 people has no plans to migrate to vista. possibly sp3 in time and after it's bench tested.

most of the machines here are 2.4-2.8ghz p-4's with 512mb and 40gb's. migrating to vista would be so costly hardware and software wise that it will never happen. and by the time management decides to upgrade it will be time for windows 7. some of the machines here are still at 256mb's.

microsoft has to learn that everyone, even it's corporate partners dont have end-less supplies of cash rolling in, and can not afford new computers to make them look "prettier" they have to provide some kind of needed functionality which vista seems to lack.

vista = windows me.

not necessarily

By Zero on 30.11.2007 - 16:11
yes its a shame that the only way to enjoy the full benfits of vista is to have a up-to-date computer.

however i work in the "business machines" dept in staples.

i told a few cutomers that some companies will be switching over to vista. they all said im nuts!

well dont ya know one of them came in and said "hey u were right"!

he works at a company (not allowed to say) that uses these huge servers that cost about 60,000 a piece and he said that his company is switching to vista!

the other shame is that vista is getting a bad rap bc m$ rushed it out unfinished.

to tell u the truth i had it since the beta and i have had no real problems with it. in the beginning (beta) i did have some driver and game problems....but ever since rtm and some of the updates i have had no more problems....period!

i am now using the sp1 (rc) and there has been vast improvements all around.

Did they fix networking w/ sp1(rc)?

By Joe on 30.11.2007 - 16:11
copy a file use vista from network server = 30k/s. xp 10x+ faster at the same task. what up with that?

the main cry form me is WHY WHY AND WHY

By Choudry on 30.11.2007 - 17:11
i say , why to vista when can i can do all the stuff in xp , from desktop to anything i can transform in xp, so why sould i got for vista and buy new video card.

YEH after 2-3 years i will

By Cohudry on 30.11.2007 - 17:11
yeh may be after 2-3 years when it will be much upgraded (by patches and patches) and i might have upgraded my pc i might give it a try.

Windows 7

By blizz26 on 30.11.2007 - 22:11
see here we go again! all the hipe now over windows 7. who says this is gonna work either. what, microsoft is suddenly going to get it right with 7 ? if thats the case, why cant they fix vista? the problem is that i saw coming years ago is, the hardware companies are moving faster the the sofeware being developed. companies are now just mastering windows xp software with 2 year old hardware (which in all honestly justa s good and fast as todays hardware). 2.4=2.4. we arent seeing 6 ghz cpu's today. were seeing hiped up cpu's that are the same speed as the old p4 cpu's nothing is really getting faster. the software is getting slower. this is the problem. microsoft should have made an xp pretty edition ( vista aero glass pack patch) now were shuck with another windows me........in 64bit. another ultimate piece of shitte.

Itchy Crotch

By MyBugItches on 30.11.2007 - 22:11
how do i get rid of crotch crickets? they very itchy! i turn out lite and they chip.. why do i go to bed with itchy butt and wake up with stinky finger? could they be related? my boyfriend say my bug taste like chicken.
he say finger lickin good. but i say i have stinky finger. not taste good?

vista

By f**k vista on 30.11.2007 - 23:11
bought vista os, going back to cracked xp.

Vista DRM

By Sebu on 01.12.2007 - 00:12
do ppl even know wtf they're talking about, when they say "vista is full of drm"?!? i thought not... :d

also, why is it, that most vista bashers have the worst grammar and spelling i've ever witnessed anywhere, and they always go for the same old rebuked arguments...?

VISTA USERS = GUINEA PIGS!

By Sarah on 01.12.2007 - 02:12
i'm sorry for them... :(

yea i mean really?

By ZERO on 01.12.2007 - 05:12
yes like someone said awhile back about how windows xp had a billion of the same problems when it first came out.

guess no one remembers that huh?

Vista

By Santa on 01.12.2007 - 07:12

XP Vs Vista

By End of the World on 01.12.2007 - 07:12
i'm one of those from the farthest corners of the world. i am interested in the xp vs vista shit that's going on. i am a spectator and believe, i will never switch to xp until windows 7. i don't remember reading too much shit about an operating system as i currently do for vista.

XP Vs Vista

By End of the World on 01.12.2007 - 07:12
the current vista saga is reminiscent of win98 when it was released. believe me, i stayed with win95 until my upgrade to win xp. guess, i'll wait again for win 7. thank you.

this news is pure FUD

By thisNewsIsPureFUD on 01.12.2007 - 13:12
this news is pure fud

Please Bill, tell me why

By Bill_The_Moron on 01.12.2007 - 14:12
my crysis game run 20% slower under vista ?
maybe time to remove your f$*#ing tons of unuseful crap crippling your expensive unstable os ?
maybe time to ask users what they really need or want ?

Forced Competence

By Nick on 01.12.2007 - 23:12

if detroit is forced to recall and repair defective product......

screw grammar

By James on 02.12.2007 - 01:12
vista is crap xp powns all

I Tried And I Tried...

By Gideon on 02.12.2007 - 08:12
people, my machine runs vista, i had reasons to go back to xp, but xp setup couldn't see my second hdd, and that's 320 gb, after vista had formatted and used it. what is this? a different ntfs?

Vista /P

By !!! on 02.12.2007 - 15:12
i have used vista on and off since it came out. it is very slow and buggy. in its favor it has excellent graphics and is very stable.

frankly, i don't know what is going to happen when you can't get a new computer from one of the major manufacturers starting next july, because so many folks want tostar with xp.

Just a commentary

god... think for a bit...

how many years had been used in xp development?
since windows me or windows 2000... just one year (xp came out in 2001)

how many years had been used in vista development?
nearly 6 years!!!!!

is that difficult to create a new os that deals with the usual problems customers have when upgrading???

resources, speed and so on... are su.ckable.
drivers compatibilities... even more su.ckable...
what else? oh! yes!
fiability and security... i had to format twice in two days due to lack of stability... weren't we supposed to say wow when we first used this os????

yes: wow! what a sh!t

XP Works

By MechEng on 14.12.2007 - 00:12
xp works quite well id say, needles to say it needed some fixes. but, vista is "better"? nah...i mean today products like vista should be an optimized version of its predecessor. lighter etc, guis in all glory makes it nicer but what heck have they done?! and why do you need all that computing power on os? i'd say, point'n'klick programming. monkeys can almost write programs today, it's horrible.

rather save my computing power to where it's needed on cad and calculations. how many here runs serious software really?

recipe for me: bang up the gui a bit (who gives a shit bout animated windows flying around?)
optimize the code further
and for gods sake...
let people choose what to install!

Vista Works!

By Banjo Man on 14.12.2007 - 01:12
really, i have a six year old computer, no problems with vista...
1.6 ghz p4
1 gb ram
nvidia geforce 4 mx

nope, still no problems....
vista home premium sp1
hehe...

Hey Banjo Man

By Paul Hernandez Sr. on 15.12.2007 - 02:12
yor computer must be a slow turtle. man, i remember those daze of waiting to do even one operation, & don't even think about multi-tasking with that junk of yours. listen dill weed, you have more in os than in hardware! wtf?

At Banjo

By MechEng on 15.12.2007 - 05:12
hm, did run winxp on me 450mhz, 512mb w geforce quadro. sure no problems, but it needed speed optimization. now i run same setup w 3ghz, 2gb ram, raid lvl 0 and incremental backup on the files that matters. bit of different software setup but not much of change (well, thank god for nod32 that saved me from symantec). while on the subject of bloatware, installed a newer version of nero today, intially it said "this installation requires 1283mb on your harddrive" wtf?!?!? it's supposed to be cd/dvd recording software for goats sake! you all see were this is leading anyways. sloppy programming no streamlining, point'n'klick programming like it was n old lucas arts game! but the only thing thats left of the point n klick from monkey island is the monkey doing the point and klick nowadays that makes up so called programs! thank god there is still good programmers out there!

Vista and XP both works

By Sanjog on 15.12.2007 - 16:12
i've 10 gb ram 2 tb hard disk space , 5,14ghz and directx 10 accelerator driver and both of them work very fast.

But one thing..........

By Sanjog on 15.12.2007 - 16:12
many computers are p4 and only has 40 gb hard disk 128-256 mb ram and 1-3 ghz . so what can they do with windows vista

What CAN Vista do?

By MengEng on 19.12.2007 - 14:12
that makes it so special really except for fancyfmancy?

if you want upgraded gui and functionality there are far superior software out there. done quite of gui modifying my self tested some software. it's all good if you know what you want and dont overload which people tend to do. after 100+ re-installations i could say i know what i'm on about.

so what makes vista so special, i can't see it so please exlplain and be constructive!

xp vs vista

By maike on 08.01.2008 - 10:01
