Windows XP SP3 Twice as Fast as Windows Vista Leaves Vista SP1 in the Dust
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 27.11.2007
Forget about Windows Vista. And forget about Windows Vista SP1. Microsoft's latest Windows client has been quite sluggish to begin with. This in both consumer adoption and in terms of the performance it delivers.
As the operating system was crawling along, while performing the most common of tasks, even "speed bumps" seemed an integer part of the road's landscape. Right, that was uncalled for... But still, even on its best day, Vista is slow, and the first service pack for the operating system will change nothing in this aspect. Windows XP SP3 simply flies in comparison to Vista, SP1 or no SP1.
Benchmark testing delivered by the researchers at Devil Mountain Software, a software-developmentcompany based in Florida, revealed that Windows XP SP3 is twice as fast as Windows Vista, with or without SP1 installed. The company threw the two operating systems one against the other on the following configuration: Dell XPS M1710, 2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 1GB of RAM and nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS video. While Vista SP1 delivered minor and disappointing growth in performance, XP SP3 faired quite well. "Windows XP Service Pack 3 (v.3244) delivers a measurable performance boost to this aging desktop OS. Testing with OfficeBench showed an ~10% performance boost vs. the same configuration running under Windows XP w/Service Pack 2. XP SP3 is shaping-up to be a "must have" update for the majority of users who are still running Redmond's not-so-latest and greatest desktop OS. Of course, none of this bodes well for Vista, which is now more than 2x slower than the most current builds of its older sibling", revealed a member of Devil Mountain Sofware.
Windows XP SP3 finished the OfficeBench test in approximately 35 seconds, XP SP2 went over 40 seconds with Vista RTM and Vista SP1 both exceeding 80 seconds. The company then added another GB of RAM. Moreover, they also tested Vista in tandem with Office 2007 instead of Office 2003. But while Vista dropped under the 80 seconds milestone it still doesn't even come close to the performance of XP. Commenting the benchmarking Microsoft explained that both Vista SP1 and XP SP3 are still under development and as such, not delivering a complete experience. Vista SP1 is currently planned for the first quarter of next year, while XP has been announced by mid 2008.
"By providing Vista (SP1) with an additional 1GB of RAM (that's a total of 2GB for those of you keeping score) we managed to achieve a "whopping" 4% improvement in OfficeBench throughput. Moving from Office 2007 to Office 2003 definitely improved Vista's showing. Instead of being over 2x slower than XP on the same OfficeBench workload, Vista is now "only" 1.8x slower", the Devil Mountain Software added.

windows xp = the best
mac = for girls
linux = complex unusufl to far from
reality maybe for someone who want to hack something like his house
vista = windows
me
i totally agree with trax o2, xp rulez and soon vista will rule......and mac is for girls
hahahaahah
what's with the anal retentive users installing vista just to get the glass
effect???????? probably ppl who polish their cars constantly to get a perfect shine but
never drive anywhere....hehehehe
vista and xp are for you guys
girls are for me!!!
hahahaha....
they test an old os with old hardware and it goes well, then they test a new os with the
same old hardware and it doesn't - are we really surprised?
i'm sure windows 2000
would fly on my athlon64 6000+, and windows 95 would be even faster.
i'm sure vista
will fly on hardware in 3 years time while it will seem sluggish on the new windows os at
the time.
same equipment , vista slow.
another stupid benchmark! officebench? what it means in real world? my xp took more than
2 minutes to turn off sometimes, and vista take no more tham 10 secs.. strange...
photoshop opens twice the speed tha opened on xp... hmm, it΄s just me... well, keep with
the old if you want, but stop talk rubbish about vista, it΄s a very nice os, so much
better xp just using you see, don΄t get fooled with all those fud on the internet.
i disagree
osx leopard=best
windows xp= good and fast but not stability of
mac
vista= takes up resources and just looks good but does no more than xp
devil mountain screwed vista with this test. when they initially tested vista is was a
clean rtm install with office 2007, xp was a sp2 install with office 2003. i guess keeping
the work load equal isn't really a big deal to a company running a bench mark. why did
they use xp sp2? why not compare vista rtm with xp rtm and use only the same tools at the
time of install? their test was flawed from the start, and when they uninstalled vista's
office 2k7 copy to install office 2k3 they corrupted their test even worse because they no
longer had a clean install of vista. i run vista and xp side by side all day and at the
end of the day i prefer vista. i notice no speed issues or gaming performance hits.
to conclude : we all have our own personal opinion
don't worry guys! some of us still like windows xp, and some others prefer windows
vista. let people use whichever they find faster. :)
do you know mac had a se.x change lately?
i like vista. xp is a dinosaur, but its time to mooove on! i am running the latest sp
and having no issues. apple? apple still $ucks bigtime. try and run all of your
software on a loooser platform like apple, what a joke!
i'm so glad i got rid of vista that was pre-installed on my laptop when i bought it.
my brother installed xp for me and i'm much hapier now :) no problems at all now!
i'm no microsoft's guinea pig! no way!
are you???
we all forget that xp is a much lighter weight os than vista..so for shore xp would run
faster than vista..i bet if i compare xp and win95.. that win95 would run even faster than
xp..cause win 95 is a much lighter os than xp
vista runs well for me so i'll keep it. i tried longhorn server and it's vista
supercharged and had almost identical program support as vista.
i just built my system with a c2d and 4gb of ram running vista x64 and it is blazing
fast. all hardwares are whql cerfified and i've never received a bsod. bottomline, if you
have the hardware built for vista, then it would run like a dream.
xp is lighter than vista, but only because gates/cia/zionists have overloaded the os with
masses of spyware/ monitoring code
ubuntu linux does all of vista's trick, and much more, without all of the issues and
problems. and you don't have to get the latest and greatest in hardware either.
xp sp3 flies cos is the 3th one,if vista reach the sp3,it will be more better than xp
if your hardware really enough for vista dont worry about performance , if not use other
os that all ,
and mac os x always be rulez coz unix sorry guys ;)
i left la-vista and went back to le-xp after 8 suffering months. i forgot la-vista
akready but where is le-xp-sp3 now?
xp rocks vista's like socks
"if you have the hardware built for vista, then it would run like a dream." - mr. q
mr. q,
if you have the hardware built for vista, then i advise you to run
xp with your hardware instead. xp will definitly give you the pleasure experiences of
sleeping with real pretty ladies around the globe while vista is just a real painfull
dream of wooden sticks in the a$$. but if you prefer your hardware with wooden-sticks
over the beautiful girls then keep dreaming of your vista.

the problem is microsoft tries to pack to much software on vista. i used vlite to strip
out all the bs vista software that 99% of users dont need and it bechmarks better than xp.
microsoft should stick just to the os and quit trying to add all this crap software that
most people will nerver use.
use 3dmark06 then lets talk! we dont care about office performance! graphics, gaming and
beating the crap out of my pc performance. how does 3d max 9 work on it? how about crysis?
what do we care about how fast you can type a letterhead? please..... give me a break..
run a real bench mark then come on here a say something
had vista for approx 8 months now
it was preinstalled on my machine
had no
problems what so ever
runs like a dream
vlite is 100% greater than full vista, n is as fast as xp .still xp got the support for
everything, anytime, while vista really $ucks in that problem
it has many... i dont know.. i think.. let say vista is not complete as xp at all..
well.. let see on its vistasp2.. hahah!
so, we should talk now , how to increase performance of vista....
old technology (xp) is faster than new one on actual hardware like win 3.1 on emulator,
but our new tek (vista)
is superior in quality in terms of developing stuff... just
wait and see... and stop using your vista transformation pack and change to vista if u rig
can...
it made my comp faster but made it harder to search any wheres you usually look for
stuff,go fig its full of crap to try and stop the pirates. welcome to the east coast, bill
gates.
sure, windows xp sp3 may run faster, but what about the hardware compatibility problems
that you'll experience with all the new hardware being released? keep in mind that
windows vista with a dual processor runs faster than xp with a dual processor. a local
computer shop in my area did a test with that and their tests showed windows vista with
internet explorer 7 loads the homepage faster than windows xp with internet explorer 6.
still think xp is the real deal, dinosaurs?
"a local computer shop in my area did a test with that and their tests showed windows
vista with internet explorer 7 loads the homepage faster than windows xp with internet
explorer 6."
well that's that sorted then. local computer store sorts out the
men from the mice.
vista r0x0rs our b0x0rs says local computer store.
asteroid due to hit local computer store next month. bill gates says mankind is doomed.
dont forget winxp is 6 years old, why not run the test on win 95 and see what happens!!!
you gotta be kidding me!!!
