Raise your hand if you're tired of negative Vista articles
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 27.11.2007
eowin member ispamforfood (interesting nickname!) has posted an interesting question on our Back Page News forum asking "Raise your hand if you're tired of negative Vista articles".
It is true that there are many news outlets that are having quite a bit of a lark bashing Microsofts latest offering, hardly surprising based on the real-world problems that many people suffered after upgrading their Windows XP machines. In defence of Microsoft, the recommended machine to use Vista with has increased quite a bit from Windows XP where 256MB of Ram was quite enough (or 512 for optimal performance) and now the recommended is 1gig or 2 depending on who you believe. Personally, I had 1GB in my machine when I upgraded (clean installed) but I only saw an improvement after I added an extra 1GB, bringing my RAM up to 2GB.
It's probably also fair to mention that Microsoft has since released Performance & Stability updates, which do fix a lot of annoyances such as slow copy/paste (calculation time) to other partitions. Anyway I have also done a poll, so voice your opinion by voting Yay or Nay to negativity on Vista by clicking the Member Poll link

hey.. if you love vista so much, why not go back to dial up. it is safer than always
being online with highspeed. i mean, vista is only 2x slower than xp so why not run vista
on dial up and be 100% slug safe!
why dont you dail the hell up?
oh you forgot the 25k modem on that dial-up connection for "utimate" protection. pun
intended.
i love vista, its great. now shut the hell up nerds.
i'm just tired of hearing about vista period. linux please and forget it.
i would be interested in knowing what all those vista lovers here do with their computers
?
seriously, start working with vista for 30 minutes and you want to go back to xp.
and yes i tried and yes i have a legit license.
after being stupid enough to buy vista x64 i switched to suse linux. vista had constant
crashes and all kinds of errors popping up. network performance is horrible, to much
calling home to ms. application incompatability. the list goes on and on. using microsoft
products has become very risky and counter productive.
vista rocks, xp is rubbish!
does anyone here using vista get the "explorer has stopped working" every 2 minutes????
oh ya i love xp just needs a better gui and better security ;)
i bet that all this vista haters where having the same complaints 6 years ago.
that
is if they wheren't playing with their playmobile or lego. get alife
i work on a computer for 10 years and i have learn something alond those years.
maybe vista is slow and hard to use but is is at is beginning like xp was at his
beginning. the history repeat because it is a new product and needs time to be
perfectioned like xp needed at his first years of live.
after all this years xp yet
have problems unsolved not saying that it become old. after so many years clean instal of
xp star crush from the beginning without internet conected and free of viruses( i format
the hard drive). the microsoft will probabli fix the features problem of xp but because
the tehnologi and the hackers became more advance and more smart the microsoft will end up
to a finish line were he will cant do enithing for xp being to old.
yes i'm tired of heraing that vista' crap in concers to speed.
vista certainly has
had it share of flaws, but ordinary pc users need to distinguish between at
vista/microsoft flaw and a windows vista driver/software flaw "graphics, sound, mb
driver, firewall, antivirus etc.
it's not mirosoft's fault all of it - far from
really !
let's take an example on speed. let's say you want to open your
document called "job" on xp, and we assume that no shortcuts have been made to this
document because that's how most people work.
you the go to "start / documents /
private / job / and the doubbleclick on job.doc
in vista you just press the
windows button and type job and hit enter
i haven't done the test, but i'll
bet my gradmother that vista would be the fastet of the 2.
allan
thats exactly what most of the complaining has been about...the drivers incompatability!
so how exactly is that m$ fault again? what because they wrote a os from the
ground up and the cheapo hardware companied didnt want to have to pony up and make better
drivers!
ive had vista since the beta stages and i only had minimal problems
with the beta. now that i have the sp1 rc1 i havent one single problem in the pas month
although i wasnt really having any problems with the regualar rtm version either.
yes xp is a little faster but thats only because it doesnt use the resources that
vista uses. i mean hey i guess windows 3.1 is even better then xp bc that faster??
what are you people saying! geesh so u have to have a decent computer for it to run
quickly...guess what? you had to do the same thing when xp came out!
i'm sorry for you vista users!
i really am...

new operating systems are always bound to have issues and problems. it happens with all
of them. once a stable release of a sp1 or sp2 for vista the operating system will become
mainstream. give it a year or two and vista will be the os majority.
i know
vista has problems since i have experienced them but still i love a lot of features in it.
but it is also the platform for a new step in the programming community.
vista
may be still in beta but it hasn't distroyed anything on my machine; it only creates
small annoyances.
for myself, i run a triple boot of xp,vista and fedora. when
its gaming time i boot into xp. if i want stabilty for general work i am in fedora. i boot
into vista if i want to use vs2008 or if i have to run an application that only runs in
vista.
why does everyone find it 'cool' to bash vista and m$ all the time?
i love vista and wouldnt go back to xp
xp is malware/spyware ridden
