Apple: Give Up on Windows Vista!

You know that old saying… all is fair in operating system measuring contests? Well, enter the unorthodox daddy of all operating system measuring contests…

Apple. With Mac OS X in the position of the underdog, along with Linux, in relation to Windows, the Cupertino-based hardware company has a lot to prove. And it’s doing it with a novel marketing approach, aiming a consistent degree of irony at its direct rivals. Rivals because it does not all come down to Windows vs. Mac OS X but also to the PC vs. the Macintosh platform.

At the bottom of this article, you will be able to find a video fragment depicting the latest exercise of humor as Microsoft’s and Windows Vista’s expense from Apple. Although traditionally, Get a Mac ads are offered under the QuickTime format on the official Apple website, the fresh advertisement is available exclusively on the web and is Flash-based. Also, the video ad is composed of two parts, a horizontal banner, generally placed at the top of the page and a vertical area on the right-hand side, featuring Justin Long (Mac) and John Hodgman (PC).

The message is simple: “Don’t give up on Windows Vista!” Oops… my bad, I meant to say “Give up on Windows Vista!” Microsoft made Vista available in November 2006 for business customers and in January 2007 for the general consumers. The Redmond company’s latest Windows client shipped over 88 million copies worldwide by October this year. October was the month when Apple released Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, the successor of Tiger and the direct response to Windows Vista.

And with Leopard roaring in the background, with 2 million copies shipped in the first weekend alone, Apple has placed itself in a position where it claims to be able to advise users to simply let go of Windows Vista. Of course, at the same time, Apple supports running Vista on its Mac computers courtesy of Leopard and BootCamp.

Change the record

funny how the mac fan boys/girls who hate windows so much, were all falling over themselves to use windows on the mactels.
so is windows as bad as apple seems to love to teach people..
i use mac and windows, my self and i like both for different reasons...

Hypocrites

By Minotaur on 23.11.2007 - 04:11
... okay, so i give up on windows vista. can i buy a version of macos that i can install on my athlon64x2 hardware without having to do hacks?
of course not. i'd love to see how well they could get an official version of leopard running that could support all the possible hardware configurations of an average x64-based pc.

Mac hardware is inferrior.

By Hsx on 23.11.2007 - 17:11
mac hardware is quite inferior to pc hardware. the platform apple was using previous to the intel processors was so horrible they had to create their next platform which took many (or almost all) of the features from the pc i386(x86)and x86_64 platforms. more or less they are using almost the same platform now with many more limitations. a lot of hardware cannot be removed and replaced, the hardware is expensive and proprietary, limited support for newer technologies and (as minotaur stated) 'limit' hardware configurations.

(i agree with minotaur's statement as well.)

mac is a rip-off

By okee on 24.11.2007 - 01:11
macs cost 3 times as much as pcs with higher specs. a 512mb mac can cost more than a 4gb pc, this is a ripoff.
pcs are much better, faster, and cheaper,

They tried.....

apple tried to sway pc users by allowing vista to be installed on a mac. didn't work! first of all, vista has to be successful which it is not. most people still don't want that piece of bloat ware. besides, isn't using mac osx half the reason to buy a mac in the first place?

why attack vista and pc users only to sell the fact that those users can load vista on a mac? so is mac saying that pc's s u c k or microsoft's operating system s u c k s? either way apple is just lying to the consumer. let's attack pc's but allow the very operating system that controls them and allows the lockups and viruses to happen in the first place to be installed on our superior macs. sounds very hypocritical to me! by the way apple, if you had control of the market like pc's do then you would have to deal with the very same problems as they do. fact is that apple users can't operate a real computer so they use a mac.

don't let apple fool you! i've seen first hand how bad their hardware is. from their computers to their ipods. it's all junk and very poor design. those ultra slim imacs over-heat all the time. motherboards are the #1 failure on a mac.

superior? i think not. their whole business is a gimmick and the one's that have bought into it are very ignorant!

the whole mac vs pc commercial is the same type of commercial you see when elections come around and this person is attacking that person to sway votes. that tactic is used when the opposition is losing (apple.)

fact is their hardware nor software is superior to warrant the higher price tag they charge. a business or home user can buy a pc at a quarter of the cost of a mac and get the same enjoyment out of it.

Silly Apple

We couldn't say FUK-U-MS

By IT tech on 24.11.2007 - 16:11
lol! the ad does telling a true fact that many of us did give up on the windows vista. our companyis a windows os shop but the bloated windows vista was the only os that we had to give up after 8 horrible months of serious issues and performace problems. we couldn't say fuk-u-ms because our company products are based on top of windows so the managers fired all the it admin guys who recommended vista for the company production usages instead.

great ads

By kj on 24.11.2007 - 21:11

By ex-pc user on 26.11.2007 - 01:11
windows: it sukks. some people here complain about the lack of games on a mac...well hellllloooo..haven't you heard that gaming on personal computers is deadddd?!?!? (get a gaming console you loserssssssss) 11 out of 10 apple/osx haters have never ever ever ever tried an apple computer. pc users spend more time trying to keep their boxes runnning and actually do very very very little with them...it's a fact that more apple people actually do stuff with their computers...other than masturbating to online pron...fact..pc users have less money than your average apple user, less education, and less fun...it just gooes on and on and on.....
