I'm gonna give u some tips for people who are stuck up with Vista Home Basic I really never wanted to have the Vista Home Basic. But when i got my Lappy i had no other option, but to stick on with this OEM version.

Well i've read in most in most articles across the web to enable the Aero in Vista Home Basic.

1)Run "regedit"
2)Navigate to "Hkey_Current_User \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ DWM"
3)change the value of the entry Composition to 1
4)change the value of the entry CompositionPolicy to 0.
5)Now restart the computer.
6)Now go to Control Panel > Personalization > Window Color and Appearance.
7)when you are on Aero Standard you should now be able to see a color picker with sliders for choosing the colour of the Glass window decorations.

Screenshot after enabling Aero

Well this only enables Aero in Vista Home Basic, But not the Glass efect like most of us want. i tried to google out many ways to get the Glass effect but all give the same hack which never ends in the Glass Effect.

But now i've found out how to get it done... How?

Install WindowBlinds 6 ---> But its a shareware thing (so forget it).

But there is one free thing available called Glass2k. I was using this in my Windows Xp so thought of giving it a try..Well its really working in Vista too. So anyone interested in having Glass Effect in their Vista Home Basic can download this free software from here.

bullcrap article

By James on 29.10.2007 - 03:10
i had home basic and it ran in that so called aero mode by default (no glass)

the article is telling you to do something that should already be enabled if your computer is half decent.

basically, this whole article leads to one thing.

. you can't enable aero, use a third party program like windowblinds.

therefore this article is bullcrap and misleading.

ps: judging from the authors bad typing, i am guessing he doesn't actually know shit and that the admin that posted this on his site is a lazy retard aka kez.

WOW Vista

By PackedFunk on 29.10.2007 - 05:10
enough.

Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open

By AERO on 29.10.2007 - 05:10
ahhaha, look at that crap,glass2k is a joke. aero is more than that..(dwm) composition engine etc and windowblinds 6 is not even near!
aero is translucent with realtime shadows etc, not transparent as everyone says!

bullcrap article,james is a retard

By LB on 29.10.2007 - 05:10
you both sound like real rocket scientists.

Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open

By BC on 29.10.2007 - 05:10
aero,you are the tranparent one.

its not good

By kj on 29.10.2007 - 11:10
i hate vista but ive used this glass2k before and it is nothing like vista areo. windows blinds is the closest to getting it right but it still isnt quite their. microsoft seems to have got the opacity setting just right.

Well so far

By James on 29.10.2007 - 12:10
i've had people call me retard, most likely the same person who has no life so he sits and spams places.

anyhow you know i am right kiddy so please, fu.ck yourself hard.

You lot are retards

By Someone on 29.10.2007 - 13:10
you lot are stupid, you should have saved up a little bit more money and got a machine with vista that has aero in the first place than trying to make it work on home basic.
and for those of you who can't afford it, this is the place to get an illegal copy of vista.

at someone

By James on 29.10.2007 - 14:10
you are a very ignorant person and you increased that by posting your dumbass comment.

i have a quad core processor and the reason i 'used' basic is because other windows vista editions are bloat.

i am currently using fedora 7, windows xp and windows vista basic in a triple boot configuration.

so if you don't have anything smart to say which by judging from your comment, you do not, i would advise you to f**k off and play with your plastic army soldiers or something.

Kids...

By .Vision on 29.10.2007 - 17:10
wow everyone here is being a douche, most likely because you don't have to sign up or anything. the guy is just posting an alternative for some people it's nothing to start an argument about. i swear kids can be a bitch to handle.

I like the pie!!!

HERE IS THE RIGHT WAY

By MadSheep! on 29.10.2007 - 20:10
enable aero glass

regedit:
hkcu/software/microsoft/windows/dwm/

composition = 1
compositionpolicy = 2

right click command prompt and run as admin:

net stop uxsms
net start uxsms

done!

An Alternative

By Dondee on 29.10.2007 - 22:10
why stay with vista home. if your computer hardware will support it, just get yourself an oem version of home premium for your brand. if you can't find that version, download an ultimate version and change the key to a home premium key in the pid.txt file. it's really done very easily. then you can get the real aero glass thing if your computer is up to it.

morons

By Dick on 30.10.2007 - 03:10
u is a vowel not a word, idiot.

crack it already please

By nick on 30.10.2007 - 14:10
so far i havn't seen anything that will enable aero glass on non premium versions or systems without enough oomph. i wish someone would crack that already for better or for worse we should be able to at least have the option and see how it goes performance wise.

everyones dumb

By brandon on 04.11.2007 - 07:11
** also one more note, these instructions are actually the windows default!

LOOK AT THIS

By d-man on 07.11.2007 - 22:11
i run a usless computer amd sempron1.8 gbs, 1gb ram, and a ati x1100. and aero came as default except flip 3d, minimising effects and translucancy (forgive spelling) are deactifated. but were there they ran for the first ten minutes of use my laptop got. i don't know why but it did. but maybe you geniuses can figure it out. vista basic build 6000

d-man you don't want the hell you are talking about. glass never did work on your system so stfu!

d-man

By lazieye on 21.11.2007 - 18:11
your wrong doman. x1100 is vista ready and has full directx 9 support.from amd product info link http://www.amd.com/us-en/processors/productinformation/0,,30_118_14603_14624%5e14627,00.ht ml
unless you have some sort of different on board vid chip it should work. you need to check u're vid drivers, and also if the eyecandy is just turned off somehow.

lazieye - thanks

By d-man on 29.11.2007 - 13:11
thanks lazieye, the chip is the right one and all drivers are up to date, ati x1100 integrated wit 284mb shared memory. i have done a system recovery and did not get aero just the vista standard theme although the option for thumsnails is in the task bar properties but when i select it nothing happens just the small text bao above it. when i uncheck it, it is the exact same....i'm also wondering, i only ran the trial for the first while, perhaps the serial had something to do with it.

by the way, anime i know a bit about computers.
don't insult anyones intelligence unless they insult you, its a bit degrading.... check you wording
