i've spoken to microsoft techs about reg cleaners and they all say the same as you! why not trust in the opinion of the guys who created the registry?!
i personally stay way as much as i can from registry cleaners!

hold on kids. every, yes, every program you use adds stuff to the registry file. you will install and uninstall stuff all the time and yet will not use a reg cleaner. and you trust ms over others. wow. not me. i use ccleaner and their reg cleaner and such. makes a huge differance in xp and speed. try it, it is great and free!

regsupreme pro is probably the best... of course there is always a chance a reg cleaner will mess something up, i feel its still worth making a backup and doing it from time to time..

users of that "registry cleaners" belongs to the careless level. although advertising makes sense to fools, making money is the best! or if you're a bit wizard, downloading a cracked file is just a mess!

i use winaso registry optimizer, it scans lots of areas others don't and it has startup manger, system speedup and uninstall manager.

the registry made sense in 1995, not now.

ccleaner works quite well, i've never had it pooch any of the hundreds of systems i've run it on.
