3 Reasons Why You Should Jump on Vista SP1 and Completely Ignore XP SP3

By maintaining the parallel availability of Windows Vista and Windows XP, Microsoft is successfully offering inhouse competition to its own products.
The Redmond company is in fact stretched between pushing Vista on all fronts, and pouring all of its efforts into its latest operating system, and continuing to offer and support Windows XP due to the consistent feedback coming from consumers, system builders and original equipment manufacturers. At the same time, Microsoft is cooking the next stages of evolution for both Vista and XP. In fact, the service packs for the two operating systems are almost synchronized and both scheduled for the first half of 2008. But while almost 80% of users still run XP with just over 7% having switched to Vista, is XP SP3 a valid option rather than Vista SP1? Well, not really...
First off, Windows XP was introduced in late 2001, and updated in 2004 with Service Pack 2. In this context, SP3 will not make XP any less expired. Of course that Microsoft does not consider XP obsolete, and it will breathe life into the Home, Media Center and Professional editions of the platform throughout 2014, as it extended support before Vista hit the market. On top of this, it will also sell the operating system through retail and OEM channels until mid 2008, and via system builders until February 2009. Still, opting for XP SP3 rather than Vista and its SP1 means that you will have to ride XP for all it’s got until 2010. Only in three years’ time will you be able to upgrade XP to Windows 7 (Seven), Vista's successor. By 2010, you will be running a nine-year-old operating system... It's the same as thinking that you could still be using Windows 98 today.
Secondly, XP SP2 will not be a repeat of XP SP2. Microsoft made it clear that the second service pack for Windows XP was an exception brought about by a specific context. The third and final refresh for XP will be a standard service pack cumulating updates, security patches, hotfixes and just a sprinkle of added functionality and features. That's right, XP SP3 will be getting a taste of Windows Vista, but nothing more, and certainly not enough to justify ignoring Vista. No matter the expectations of XP SP3, currently planned for the first half of 2008, Microsoft will deliver little satisfaction with the refresh beyond what users experience with XP SP2.
The third reason is none other than the first service pack for Windows Vista. Microsoft's latest operating system was released at the time when the environment of devices, applications and hardware was not fully ready for it. By Vista SP1, in the first quarter of 2008, the ecosystem orbiting the operating system will be mature enough to deliver full support and compatibility. Now, there is little doubt that Vista is a superior product to XP. However, a few glitches have held the platform back and generated a plethora of mixed reviews. With SP1, Microsoft will soften all of Vista's rough corners in terms of reliability, performance and compatibility. Will all the details taken care of, SP1 will indeed recommend upgrading from XP.

it's crap, pure crap, basically it is windows xp with a bigger resource usage and they
expect us to 'upgrade'? more like a biiig god damn downgrade.
same old story again. a new os and people protesting it unwilling to let go of old
technology. someone said to me... "my friend who has been using aol for 2 months, knows
everything there is to know and thinks i should stay with xp."
if someone is

i used to have vista,till the beginning of this month,but i discovered something
absolutly incredible,vista makes torrent downloads go slower. i made the test 4 times! in
two completly equal machines one with vista and another with xp mce 2005. the vista only
went at max: dn\up 380\87 kbps,the xp went to 1.3mbps down and 512 kbps up...!

have 24 mbits of broadband dsl.

i spent damn $399 for vista ultimate + a dual core processor + 2gb ram + a gpu cos' the
onboard one wasn't enough +++
this time i'll give osx leopard a try. there are just
so many features in a mac + hardware + applications + usability + productivity that i
can't miss this latest osx release!...
windows vista sp1 will not do much at all.
they are simply fixing found bugs (named: reliability, performance and compatibility)
after some costumers had so many problems when they ran the "vista beta released on
february this year". as i see it windows is becoming an o.s frizzed in time... probably
time machine may bring it back though!

vista made me turn, it is aweful, windows xp when it first came out was bad and yes, it
improved over the years.
but windows vista has bitten more than it can chew,

microsoft have just shoveled some shit into it and made it vista exclusive when windows 98
could run it just as good, wow directx 10, would have worked fine on xp but no, has to be

when vista get better than now, i will upgrade xp to vista or windows 7...but now, vista
have so many bugs, too many controls from microsoft.

users of windows vista are disillusioned that the new os seemingly uses more resources to
do the same thing. in reality vista has more services, more eye candy. microsoft should
work on streamling vista. i can vouch the service pack one helps. i just installed it.
vista seems much more responsive. definately a step in the right direction.

macs are just crappy computers. well no, their not crappy computers, u cant define it as
a computer. my friend has a mac and he looks for games to run on his mac and alas took
pity on himself for bying a macbook. he has now decided on bying a pc laptop or use boot
camp or watever its called. i hav a lapton and desktop running vista business and ultimate
respectively. its faster than xp to boot/run any programs and runs all the latests games
at a higher fps than xp. played quake 4 on xp and got 40 fps on max out settings and
80-120 fps on vista. linux ubuntu is difficult to use when watching movies, playing music
and gaming. u need to download this and that that u finnaly relize ur better of running a
windows based machine. linux ubuntu= wtf is a .exe file? mac os x= wtf is entertainment?

well, i'm now going to return to my xp
machine which has the windows vista sidebar, which can run directx10 games and which does
have the media center all possible by the community since microsoft are too money grabbing

anyways, vista is the leadup to vista 7. its totally different coding to xp and vista
runs best on a good computer. r u on a mac? xp was complete shit. i had it for 6 months
before vista came out. b4 xp i was on 2000 and b4 that i was on 98. xp was just an extra
layer of skin over 2000 (see when u boot up or the coputer doesn't respond u see the
windows 2000 look where the taskbar is meant to be).
linux ubuntu is not bad
for an open source os. its fast, looks great with beyrl but does not run games and other
multimedia stuff unless specified. its an open source project and while its fun to use, it
quickly looses its flash.
apple mac. my old primary school had them and when i
first used it i was impressed of how it looked and so on. i quickly was dismayed of how
difficult it was to use the mac at school with my pc at home. word files did not open,
websites refused to load etc so the school opted for the pc.
vista is much
better os than xp due to the looks, speed and reliability i have with vista. i had to
reinstall xp over 3 times due to crashing, slowness of the computer and the thing just
kept falling over. that was over 6 months and yes i was on sp2. vista, i have had since
the 2nd day of the launch date, same computer and not once has been on the bsod or crashed
to a non-recovery.
microsoft has done a good job (not fantastic) on vista. it
looks great, fast etc and completely owns xp. maybe 98 was better.
