Hacker Control Via ISP

section: common, for your questions: KezNews forum, 7.9.2007

Knowing the rate of cyber-crime the UK has it's no wonder they're trying to think of anything that might work to take it down. Now, a few Lords are asking Internet Service Providers to "Police" the Internet.

There is no law for this just yet, but it all just seems ethical and logical to me...

I'm no expert on Internet providing, but I do know that traffic is not so hard to monitor. And if that isn't so difficult, how about the type of traffic? And by that, I mean, do the ISPs have any idea if you're surfing, downloading or streaming? Of course they do! And if they don't know, it wouldn't be too hard for them to find out. I'm just guessing here, but I think they might design a program that can track hacker activity and block Internet access to that user, the minute it identifies it as a hacker. Like any security software, I think it will end up showing some false positives but it would be a good way to lash out hackers.

If that is just a dream of mine, I know for sure that an ISP can build a blacklist of sites, so that users will not get any viruses. However, some people deploy heavy-weight anti-viruses, just so that they can safely navigate on any site. Since they know that they're safe no matter what, they might not like access restrictions, but blacklisting malware site is utilitarianism. The good choice for the many is more important than the good choice for the few...

I have no idea if these measures are going to be installed in the UK, or in other countries, but I'd sure like to see more measures taken against hacking. Keep in mind that it's not the ISP's fault that you get infected from navigating who knows what site – it's your choice where you surf and ignoring security measures will cost you!

Give up your liberty for security?

By Big Brother on 08.09.2007 - 17:09
the question about having isp restrict what websites it's subscribers can access, isn't wise at all.

consider who decides what is and isn't allowed for you to know.

i see this becoming an easy method for the government to abuse. take china for example, think how nice it would be to allow the government yet another method to block, filter, censor and monitor it's citizens by insuring only it's own propaganda websites are allowed.

if you live in a democratic republic, nobody should restrict your choice, your freedom.

the matter for having computers get infected should not be focused on restricting websites, it should be focus on the security of the software.

microsoft has never been a security corporation. the monthly patches, the hot fixes, the service packs never end. the bugs and the errors for every operating system it has offered have all been flawed from the start.

instead of limiting us more, denying everyone equal access to websites, why not demand better programs in the first place that don't use active x or java script crap that allows these sort of security risk?

if you turn off your active x, your java script and even just java, you have eliminated 98% of the security risk.

it's the same reason why the banking system all around the world does not allow for active x technologies that microsoft has produced.
another nightmare is the microsoft dot net framework...consider how each new version doesn't upgrade at all. so you end up with dot net framework version 1, version 2, and now version three on your pc just to allow new programs to be used.

if you idiots really want to allow your internet service provider to limit your access even more, and never focus on actually providing better software in the first place, then you deserve being told what to know, what to see, and what to think...

North Korea Most Secure ISP provider

By Kim on 08.09.2007 - 17:09
consider north korea, as in this country all of the citizens, are denied to have any access to the internet. even foreigners who visit get their mobile phones taken away.

now that's having your liberty taken away for security. only who wants to live in north korea?

Big Brother

well he is entitled to his opion, as i am i and what a simpleton! it pees me off the way governments (who in theory are supossed to represent the people ha ha that has never happened and never will!) it is not as easy to monitor the net as he thinks. for example look a parent blocking software how many times does it block from perfectly good sites for children...... yes obviously the technology would be more complex i have used some but they all suffer the same problem, they don't have a human brain, and technology has a long long long way to go to get there, if ever.
