Microsoft WGA servers are fixed, but..
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 26.8.2007
no word on what went wrong. Microsoft has fixed whatever caused a massive worldwide outage of its Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) system that seemed to last just under 24 hours.
So far, however, company officials aren’t commenting publicly on what happened.
At 6 p.m. EST on August 25, I received the following statement from a Microsoft spokeswoman:
“All (WGA) servers are working properly now. Only those who experienced a validation issue between yesterday afternoon and about 11 a.m. Pacific today need to go back to the validation page.”
Starting Friday evening, a number of XP and Windows Vista users reported problems when attempting to download fixes, updates and other software when they were required to validate using WGA. Lack of official information from Microsoft regarding when a fix would be coming frustrated a number of users, who complained publicly via the Microsoft Genuine Forum.

maybe they are going to blame too many windows computers rebooting at the same time too,
like skype did... morons.
microsoft patches caused a resetting of skype peer servers. just like torrent files
losing peers, you hope there are enough peers left to carry the weight, but with skype,
that isn't going to work well.
as for wga, this only adds to the misery of
legit and legal end users as compared to non legit end users.
i don't think
anyone likes wga, only the content owners want to protect their profits, but at what cost
to the society for losing the rights to build upon prior innovation?
want
society to benefit or a few wealthy types instead that limit progress for all?
microsoft patches did not caused any problems to skype.
skype is the one to
blame, not microsoft
you should read this:

specially the 3rd point:
3. how come previous microsoft update patches didn’t
cause disruption?
that’s because the update patches were not the cause of the
disruption.
